Standing Waves
The wave function is given by A(x)=0.15sin(4x). Determine,
a) the amplitude and wavelength
b) The location of the first 4 anti nodes and nodes
c) The location of the first point from the origin where the amplitude is 0.1m.
a) K=2pi/λ, λ= 2pi/4, λ= 1.57m
2A=0.15m, A= 0.075m
b) Nodes:
x=0
x= λ/2= 1.57/2=0.785
x= λ= 1.57
x= 3 λ/2=2.4
Antinodes:
x= λ/4= 1.57/4= 0.39
x=3 λ/4=1.18
x=5 λ/4=1.96
x=7 λ/4=2.75
c) 0.1=0.15sin(4x)
0.66=sin(4x)
sin^-1(0.66)=4x
0.72=4x
x= 0.18m
