2. WHAT IS A DECIMAL?
A decimal is a number that shows numbers to
the right of the decimal point that are between
1 and 0.
The decimal point is to the right of the whole
number.
4. ORDERING DECIMALS
You order decimals by looking at the decimals
value.
1. 3.456, 3.758, 2.34
2. 2.34, 3.456, 3.758
5. ROUNDING DECIMALS
You round decimals by looking at the number to
the right of the place value you want to round to.
If the number to the right is 5 or greater you
round up if the decimal is 4 or less you round
down.
1. 3.954
2. 4
6. ADDING AND SUBTRACTING
DECIMALS
You add and subtract decimals in three steps.
1. You line up the decimal points in both
numbers in the problem.
2. You add or subtract just as you would with
whole numbers.
3. Align the decimal point in the sum or
difference with the decimal points in the
numbers above.
7. MULTIPLYING DECIMALS
There are three steps to multiplying decimals.
1. You line up the decimal points in both factors.
2. Multiply as you would with whole numbers.
3. See how many numbers are to the right of the
decimal points in the algorithm and then you put
the decimal point that many digits to the left of
your product.
