Letters From An Anonymous AddictBy Taimoor Sobhan
Representation
3952875539115-576580558800This film represents young people living on the streets in Bangladesh who have been introduced to drugs which formed them into addicts. Some of these youths have resorted to drugs because they have had bad experiences at home with their family, either their parents throwing them out on the streets or in worse cases their parents passing away. Brother Ronald Drahozal is a member of the church and has set up a help scheme to try and help these troubled youths.
Institution
Letters From An Anonymous Addict is a Non – UK film produced by “Loki Films”. The interviews shot in the film are filmed at Ashokti Punorbashon Nibash (APON) which is a non – profit NGO.
Values
4016375540385The music in this film is very slow paced has a low key which connotes sadness, loneliness and faced with problems. This type of music compliments the film genre as it is as harsh reality of true life in Bangladesh and the purpose of the film is to inform and educate the audience about what’s happening. The letters are shown over the background of the screen which filters the audience’s attention to the letters which are very significant to the film as they are the letters from the youths chosen to interview. When the youths or Brother Ronald Drahozal are being interviewed, the music stops and this emphasises the importance of what is being portrayed in the film and brings the attention directly onto the characters.
Audience
The target audience for this film will probably be students studying world affairs. It could generally be for anyone who is interested in documentaries about other places in the world.
Language
3814445294640Natural light and sound is used which shows the truth of the film which encourages the audience to believe the content and sympathise with the troubled youths. The introduction and the end credits appear with an all black background with the writing in white. This can connote darkness, loneliness and being scared. I believe these are used because most of these young people would be very scared and lonely living on the streets.
Ideology
3399790356235The preferred reading of Taimoor Sobhan is to shed light upon lives of young drug addicts living on the streets in Bangladesh. He wants to educate the audience about what is happening in Bangladesh and make them aware of how some young people are living their lives. This could possibly influence the audience to donate money or find other ways to help which will make a huge difference to the lives of many young Bangladeshi’s.
Narrative
4016375325120The film starts with an introduction about the topic that is going to be shown. There is then shots of young people on the streets and in some shots, the streets are very overcrowded. This film uses interviews as a way of showing the audience which is a powerful method as it is very personal and the audience can engage with them characters. The structure of the interviews starts with the letter that one of them wrote to Brother Ronald Drahozal, then interviews Ronald himself and finally interviews the young person that wrote that letter and you can see that Ronald Drahozal has helped them a lot.
Genre
3731895354965The genre of this film is a documentary about young drug addicts in Bangladesh.
