1. FightBy Lewis Metcalfe
Representation
3933190163830This film is representing British youths at school that are faced with violence all the time and everywhere they go. Some of these youths have turned to violence because they want to feel involved within society whereas other youths, for example the protagonist doesn’t want to be involved with violence and when he turns up to the skate ramp where he is meant to fight, he throws the knife he brought with him away and walks off signifying to the audience that violence isn’t the answer.
Institution
Fight is a UK film based and set in the North West.
Values
3786505177165The film starts with diagetic sound from the playground and then slow strings are introduced which connote danger and the risk that something bad is going to happen. The diagetic sound is very loud in some parts which show that the protagonist isn’t thinking a lot and is just hearing what is happening around him. The strings start to play everytime something is said or something happens which could result in violence and danger.
Audience
The target audience of this film will be British youth males, in particular school boys who are faced with violence wherever they go.
Language
384619593980The colours used in this film are mainly black and white which makes it very dull. This signifies the place they are living in isn’t a very nice place as there are youths all over the place who turn to violence as the answer to everything. The protagonist wears all black connoting loneliness and also privacy; he doesn’t talk during the film and gives the impression he would rather be on his own.
4112260265430Ideology
The preferred reading of Lewis Metcalfe is to portray the curiosity and anxiety young males face regarding violence. The film is meant to show the impact of how one violent situation can affect the attitudes of youths who are caught in the middle of violence and the classmates who witness it. He wants to show that walking away from violence results in much better situations than turning towards violence for answers.
Narrative
3750945128905Fight has a very clear beginning, middle and end and it tells the story of the experiences of some young males in the North West of UK but this could be happening anywhere in the UK. I feel this a is very strong technique for this style of film as it is clear to understand and follow for the target audience which is very important otherwise Lewis Metcalfe won’t be able to get his message across clearly.
Genre
The genre of fight is a Drama.
