Background:
A PR and marketing professional with over 20 years experience of working across a
spectrum of brands including fashion, beauty and entertainment with an emphasis on
celebrity endorsements and social media.
Work History:
Tesson PR – Freelance PR and Social Media – May 05 to present
I provide PR and Social Media services to a range of clients who have included:
Peel Heritage, AVT Connect, Eco-Action Partnership (Isle of Wight Festival), Four Corners
Print, Koba Cocktail Bar, NHS, Lighthouse, Author: Kate Beswick.
Peel Heritage – Freelance PR
The company that manages the marketing programmes for national trust homes put on two
outdoor productions across a selection of properties during the Summer of 2013, which I
was brought on to publicise. The shows were Black Beauty, with the role of the horse acted
by Simeon John-Wake wearing a specially adapted head brace. I got this show reviewed by
Georgina Brown with the story appearing on the cover page of the arts section in the Mail
on Sunday.
The other was the 3run parkour troupe led by Sam Parham, who performed an interactive
sequence using the buildings and grounds of the various houses. I got the troupe onto BBC
Breakfast weather filmed on location at Holkham Hall, Norfolk which meant they had slots
throughout the morning doing demonstrations and being interviewed. Other coverage
included BBC Newsnight, Radio Merseyside and First News.
Isle of Wight Festival - I worked on this project for two years running (2010/2011)with the
aim of making the festival greener and more sustainable, as well as raising awareness of the
Isle of Wight’s dwindling Bee population. In the campaign, which we called ‘Let it Bee’, after
Paul McCartney who was headlining, we managed to get Sir Paul to mention it on ITV2 when
he was interviewed by Fearne Cotton directly before his performance - which was a huge
coup for us. I also managed to get a several slots on BBC Southeast Today which included a
pre-recorded long and short version highlighting the plight of the bees and showing the
steps taken to redress the situation along with the other carbon neutralising initiatives we
had implemented.
As part of our campaign we filmed various artists giving their messages about sustainability
which were played on the big screens throughout the festival. Artists we filmed included
Midge Ure, Spandau Ballet’s Steve Norman, Friendly Fires, We are Scientists, Paloma Faith
and Bombay Bicycle Club to name a few.
AVT Connect – Freelance PR, Social Media and Marketing (based at their offices)
I wrote and compiled their quarterly magazine, YouConnect, which went out to 12 000
businesses including past, present and potential customers. Many of their live events
featured celebrity guest speakers such as Rory Bremner, Kate Adie and Beardyman so I was
2. able to maximise our coverage on social media (Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn) and in
press releases as a result. I was also able to interview Beardyman for the cover story of one
of the YouConnect magazines.
Billington Jackson – Account Director (DeRigo, Intercity Watches, Camel Active)
Jun 01 – Apr 05
Managed the PR aspects of the Police sunglasses / David Beckhamendorsement deal which
resulted in Police being named as the No. 1 men’s sunglass brand in the UK. This included
two shoots and an event at Riverside Film studios which was attended by numerous TV
news crews, press and celebrities.
Managed the seasonal pr campaigns for the brands that fell under each client: DeRigo
(Police, Fendi, La Perla, Etro, Givenchy) Intercity Watches (Morgan, Oasis, Ben Sherman and
Umbro) and Camel Active menswear
Dunhill – Freelance PR
Feb 01 Jun 01
This four month placement saw me helping out with all aspects of the Dunhill re-launch
which included a celebrity packed launch event at the newly refurbished Old Bond Street
store and press appointments to show the collections. This also included providing brand
ambassadors such as Guy Richie, Dermot O’Leary and Jason Statham with bespoke suits.
Arcadia Group – Menswear Press Officer – TopMan and Burton Menswear
Feb98 – Feb 01
Facilitated all PR aspects of the England Football Team / Burton Menswear endorsement
deal which ran for two years and included the 2002 World Cup final for which the team
wore Burton Menswear suits.
I managed all the shoots, press packs, news stories, picture placement and corporate
hospitality associated with the deal. I worked with the Neville brothers, Sol Campbell,
Martin Keown (for whom I organised an online question and answer chat session), Darren
Anderton, Gareth Southgate and Tony Adams.
I helped to change the perception of the Topman brand in the eyes of the press with cutting
edge press packs showing only on trend garments. This resulted in an increase in press
coverage by around 400% which in turn filtered down to the consumer (and now Topman is
showing at London Menswear Fashion Week.)
Revlon – Assistant Brand Manager – Revlon, Charlie and Ultima II
Mar 91 – Aug 97
My main function was execution of the marketing plan, which, on two product lines, Revlon
cosmetics and Guess perfume, included celebrity endorsement deals with Cindy Crawford
and Claudia Schiffer respectively.
I also produced a monthly newsletter called Face Facts aimed at the chemist trade which
covered everything from product news and makeup tips to interviews and celebrity gossip
from Revlon signed models.

Other:
I started Loved Worn Reborn, a boot-ique for second hand clothes where people take stalls
to sell good quality fashion. I arranged this at St Anne’s Wells Festival for two years running
and at various other locations such as St Luke’s Church Hall, The Chocolate Workshop and
Friends Meeting House.
This has developed into Adapted where I adapt secondhand clothes to mirror upcoming
trends and I blog about the outfits I’ve created. The overall theme for this is a ‘Use what
you have’ concept to create something different, unique and interesting. You can see more
