1. Kinds of fractures
When you break a bone, it cracks. If it cracks but does
not penetrate your skin, then it is called a closed fracture.
If it does penetrate the skin, it is called a compound
fracture. When a bone does crack all the way through, then
its called an complete fracture. Sometimes if you work a
bone or a few bones too much then
stress or fatigue fractures start to
happen. That’s when you’re too old
or you’ve been doing a lot of things
and have been pressuring that part for a period of time. That is called
a fatigue fracture.
What changes does a
bone go through when
it breaks?
Once a bone cracks it starts mending
right away. It creates a soft tissue that links
the two parts again. Creating this soft tissue
2. usually takes 2-3 days and at that time you may feel pain or even hear
a little grinding inside! Once the bone finishes creating the tissue it
stats to merge with the other bone. After a week or two, the tissue will
fully merge and start to harden. Usually the bone takes 3-4 months to
heal. The cool thing is that the bone is actually stronger than it was
before it broke!
How to help a broken bone
Doctors usually put casts on to the fractured place to help it
heal. The cast is designed to receive and dissipate shock, so you don’t
have to worry about accidents or pain. It is also designed the help
support your arm and keep it in the correct
posture and the best posture to heal. To help it
yourself don’t exercise it or strain it. If you do
that, it may slow down the healing process or stop
the healing process. You must also not receive any
pain with that place, meaning that you should
always try to prevent initial shock with that arm.
Another thing you should do is to lay off of it for a
while. The arm should be in a good and suitable
weather condition-avoid getting it wet and avoid freezing it.
3. How to avoid getting a fractured bone
If you don’t want to get a fractured but you like outdoor play,
then you should always be carful. Always remember to stay put of
doing the extreme things. There is a saying that goes: safety first.
Always try to follow that. For those who don’t like outdoor activities,
try not to do dangerous things with the risk of falling down (for
example, standing on a tall chair).
Challenges
I interviewed a few people so I could find out more. Most of the
people said that it was
really hard to walk or go up
stairs if they had a cast.
