1. Communities Reflection
Communities:
I think a community is a group of people that are connected.
I identify with a variety of communities such as BISS, Flat Class room, my
football team and Grade 4. I enjoy belonging to my Grade 4 community the
most because I can learn many things and have many friends and teachers
to help.I think communities are important for people because they will not
get lonely and sad if they belong.
My Virtual Community:
I was a member of a Flat Classroom Community called Celebration team
2B.While working with my community in Edmodo, I learned that Chinese New
Year, Moon Cake festival and Dragon Boat festival are not celebrated in
other countries.I discovered that my team members and I had
commonalities such as most of us like to play Mine Craft or eat fast food.I
also discovered that we had differences such as we do not live in the same
country or don’t have the same culture.I enjoyed being a member of this
community because I made new friend and learned more things about
celebrations around the world.It was challenging to talk with many people
and think of what to say.
Media Collection:
I collected media to teach my community about Chinese New Year and other
Chinese celebrations.I collected photos and videos such as a picture of a
dragon boat and a picture of people making moon cakes.The most important
photo I shared was the Chinese New Year picture.It was important because
it showed how we celebrate Chinese New Year. I explained how we do the
dragon dance on Chinese New Year.
Voice Thread Presentation:
I explained my media in a VoiceThread presentation. I enjoyed working with
VoiceThread because I don’t need to type my comments and I just had to
read them aloud.It was challenging to explain how can we connect with each
other through commonalities because there were many differencesand few
similarities.I think I explained Chinese New Yearthe best because I told my
group all about how to do the Dragon dance.Next time Iuse VoiceThread, I
will try to read louder and fluently.
What else?
During this unit I especially enjoyed chatting with the people on Edmodo
because I could have fun and at the same time I was learning things.After
this unit, I will continue to learn about celebrations because I want to tell
my family about other celebrations around the world.
