1. Finite Resources Reflection
Global Inquiry:
I learned that “finite” means a limited amount of a resource.
Some examples of finite resources include coal, oil & wood
It is important to conserve fossil fuels because they can run out and make a
lot of pollution by burning them. Some alternative energy sources are solar
energy, wind energy and water energy. While investigating the coal
industry, the most interesting thing I learned was that more then 5.3 billion
of tonnes are used each year and coal is the remains of dinosaurs!
Local Inquiry:
During my Home Energy Audit, I discovered that my house uses a lot of
energy. So, I set goals to use less energy and turn off the lights if no one
is in the room. During our BISS Energy Audit, we discovered many
problems, such as the lights were on when no one was in the room and some
rooms didn’t even have a recycling bin. So, we set a goal to tell them if no
one is in the room turn off the lights when no one is in the room and we
made some recycling bins for the class that didn’t have one.
Taking Action:
School Conversation Campaign
It is important to reduce, reuse and recycle paper because paper is made
from trees and if we cut trees we’ll have no trees left and if we don’t have
any trees left we’ll have no furniture left and no oxygen. First we made
recycling bins. Then we told them how to use it. Finally, they were
recycling. It was difficult to tell the pre-k students that it is for papers
not for other things. I enjoyed this action because it was fun taking the
recycling bins.
If I took a different environmental action, I would like to do metal
recycling.
Environmental Music Video
We use persuasive language techniques in our lyrics, such as repeating and
rhyming. I think the most persuasive line in the lyrics is that trees are our
lungs they give as air to breath in a hundred years there be no more to see
because it is really important because they give as oxygen and if there no
trees we’ll have no oxygen.
While working on the movie, I learned about that in printer we could make
the font small. I enjoyed making this video because it was fun acting at the
green screen. If I did another music video, I would do it about coal
because it would be cool to show that coal can make metals.
What else?
During this natural forces unit I especially enjoyed doing the green screen
video. After this unit, I will continue to learn about coal and oil because I
didn’t know enough about them.
