1. Communities Reflection
Communities:
I think a community is a group of people who are connected.I identify with
a variety of communities such as interest, learning, language, location and
cultural.I enjoy belonging to my interest community the most because I can
play soccer with my friends.
I think communities are important for people because they will feel like
they have a friend and will not feel lonely.
My Virtual Community:
I was a member of a Flat Classroom Community called Edmodo.
While working with my community in Edmodo, I learned that you can make
friends online and it was fun talking to someone who is in a different
country.I discovered that my team members and I had commonalities such
as my Edmodo teacher and me both want to go to Italy.I also discovered
that we had differences such as some people liked horses and some people
don’t like horses.I enjoyed being a member of this community because I was
able to make new friends and I improved in my typing skills, too.It was
challenging to pick 1 conversation that I liked the most because I had a lot
of great conversations with my team.
Media Collection:
I collected media to teach my community about the housing we have in
Beijing.I collected photos and videos such as my apartment complex, the
park in my complex, a Chinese character that people put on their door so
they will become healthy and happy, Diana’s house and my house in
Hawaii.The most important photo I shared was my house in Hawaii.It was
important because it showed the difference between houses in rural Hawaii
and the crowded city of Beijing.
Voice Thread Presentation:
I explained my media in a VoiceThread presentation. I enjoyed working with
VoiceThread because I could learn how to use VoiceThread and now I know
how loud I should speak when I do it again.It was challenging to explain my
house in Hawaii because there is a lot of information so the script was very
long.I think I explained my apartment complex photo the best because I put
a lot of detail in that comment. I told my group all about the similarities
and differences between the housing in Hawaii and Beijing.Next time I use
VoiceThread, I will try to speak more clearly.
What else?
During this unit I especially enjoyed using technology to do work and make
connections.After this unit, I will continue to useEdmodobecause we can
make new friends with this tool.
