4. INTRODUCTION
Marriage could simply be defined as the legally or formally recognized union of
two people as partners in a personal relationship (historically and in some
jurisdictions specifically a union between a man and a woman).
Marriage, also called matrimony or wedlock, is a culturally recognized union
between people called spouses. It establishes rights and obligations between
them, as well as between them and their children, and between them and their
in-laws.
This author garnered her experience in her over twenty (20) years marriage
and in counselling over a hundred couples during her tenure as Chairperson of
the Litigation/Medication Committee of Lagos Chapter of FIDA.
I believe this book would help reader build and strengthen their marriages
when read and applied to their daily family lives.

The book discusses extensively the traditional marriage vows and how the journey
gets started, exchange of vows which was discussed in three parts;
with the meaning of the components of marriage vows from ‘take you to be my
lawfully wedded wife/husband’ to ‘to have and to hold’ to ‘to love and to cherish’ to
the last of it which was ‘until death do us part’.
The author educates readers on how marriage vows has created common spirit
and common destiny.
To conclude the chapter, the author pin points that biblical doctrines are exercised
in marriage where she states that God as the foundation of the marriage, couples
easily exercise faith in God and in the fact that their marriage will be full of marital
bliss.
She also mentioned hope as one of the ingredients mentioned in Paul’s letter to the
Corinthians (1 Cor. 13:13), that is indispensable in every aspect of the Christian
race. The chapter summarily presents connotes of marriage vows, the sanity of
the vows, and God’s allegory of marriage.

It presents readers with legality of marriage where types of marriages under Nigeria family law, nature of
marriage in Nigeria with statutory marriage/church marriage were examined.
Here, the author also itemized nine (9) preliminary issues or formalities for conducting statutory marriage
and, those three (3) factors that must be considered by the marriage Registrar before issuing marriage
certificate.
Places where marriages can be celebrated were presented under the Marriage Districts and Registrar of
Marriages.
When did you think a marriage can be declared invalid, null and void?
This book provides answers to this and also to listed those offences and penalties that can be incurred while
going through the process of statutory marriage.

This book also treated the Sole ground for dissolution of Statutory Marriage under the Dissolution of
Statutory Marriage where it itemized grounds that could facilitates dissolution of statutory marriage, with
process and procedure for dissolution of statutory marriage
The court in its wisdom can decides not to dissolve a marriage, this book tells us why.
A look at the Customary Law Marriage was done where the Essentials for a valid traditional marriage where
emphasized also with capacity to marry, payment of bride price, celebration of marriage and, how Customary
marriage can be dissolved.
Conclusively, the author made it clear that Customary Law Marriage is not inferior to Statutory Marriage.

This chapter explored the place of forgiveness in marriage.
The author named the chapter Love and Forgiveness Sustain
Marriage, she sees to the extent of love that can sustain marriage,
lists marriage offences and examines the Forgiveness Therapy where
she projected forgiveness, like love, is an action word.
The need for forgiveness is one of the occasions in which the measure
of love available to sustain the marriage vow can be proven.
The indicia that guarantee the sacredness of the marriage vow, these
include the type of love that sustains marriage and the therapy of
forgiveness in the event of marital offences in marriage.

This chapter educate readers on Divorce which the author considered
the death of marriage.
Here, she painted the problem of divorce as the virus which Satan
uses to steal joy in marriages; kill couples’ unity and companionship,
destroy or eat-up the foundation of marriage, and bury it at the end.
The author discussed background to divorce, whether Christian
marriage permits divorce and when divorce is inevitable, both from
Christian and Law perspective.
She Also discussed the three (3) pillars that guarantee successful
marriage for and non-believers and concluded with the three (3)
pillars plus one for a successful marriage among believers.

In chapter five, the following twelve (12) tips on how to have a
sustainable marriage are given and were extensively discussed
with real life scenarios that would be helpful to reader and
followers of His words.
To conclude, couples are advised to be prayerful and also adhere
to these tips as it will ensure marital bliss and mend broken
homes in event of one.

todays marriage in our society.

13. I will leave us with the words of Fawn Weave said and I quote “Don’t ever confuse a great
marriage with a perfect one.
A great marriage is attained through daily effort, love, and investment of time.
A perfect marriage doesn’t exist because it involves the union of two imperfect people” No
marriage is absolutely perfect but with the twelve (12) tips stated in chapter five of this book,
we’ve done everything humanly possible to have blissful marriage.
The questions and answer session of this book cut across board, it will aid us shape our
marriage, save our society and, nation at large.
Daily recitation of those quoted bible verses will also help couples draw closer to their
creator and help raise Godly children.
