Strenghts
1. Strengths Of Sustainable Development Theory
This theory has strengths which include the following:
it helps build better understanding among countries o n how environmental, social and
economic problems relate to each other.
it involves participation of the local populations in the management of their resources,
such as groups, communities and ngos. it recognises that people should be given the
opportunity to participate in public affairs or projects that affect them.
the opportunity for people to participate depends on the quality of social and political
rights that they are given this is called political freedom
it stimulates and focuses cross-sectorial debate on key environmental and
development issues
sustainable development strategies involve the working together of different sectors at
the same time; therefore it overcomes the problem of one sector repeating what the
other does. different sectors can co-operate and share ideas.
it links perfectly with what we must do with resource policy. we must analyse what the
problem is before we come up with a solution.
