2. Equipment
In order to make our soap trailer we used a Panasonic
HDC SD60. We chose to use the same camera for all
filming in order for us to edit footage easily and so that
all footage would be framed the same to convey realism.
The Panasonic is easy to use and enabled us to get a
range of different shots. It allowed us to zoom effectively
and capture shots from close ups to over the shoulder
shots.
We used the DSLR cameras when getting still images
for our ancillary product (poster.) We used the DSLR’s
to take large high definition images that wouldn’t get
pixilated whilst stretched out.
We took still images of our characters in front of the
green screen. The green screen enabled us to cut out
the background and change it to a background of our
choice.
3. Research
I used Youtube to learn about the different codes and conventions of existing soap trailers. I
looked at similar existing trailers for soaps such as Hollyoaks and Skins as they are both
melodramas alike my product. I also analysed soap trailers from more realism based soaps like
Eastenders so I had a broad understanding of all.
By looking at a wide range of soap trailers I learnt that to
portray genre all soaps use similar codes and conventions.
Everything done in soap trailers is there to create meaning
for the intended audience.
For example, in this Skins soap trailer we see all
characters at a rave in party type clothes and as the target
audience for Skins is 16-20 year olds they are most likely
to relate to themes and ideologies presented in the
narrative – most 16-20 year olds are interested in going
out to parties/raves. As skins portrays the lives of
teenagers , just by watching the trailer the target audience
is made obvious.
4. Research
I used Youtube to upload all of my finished
videos onto. I then used HTML coding to
upload them onto my blog. I also used the
HTML code off Youtube to send to my peers
to get audience feedback off them.
I used Youtube to look at popular music that
most teeangers are fond of. As I want my soap
trailer to appeal to a wide audience I wanted
the music for my soap trailer to be popular yet
not too mainstream, so music from people like
One Direction is a definite no.
I focused on the ‘deep house’ genre as most
teenagers listen to it or dance to it when they
go out, therefore making the trailer appeal to
them more if it contains music that they’re fond
of and already know.
5. Research
I have been using Weebly to document all of my work. Including my research, drafts, final work and
evaluation. This blog will be submitted with all of my final work. Despite being challenging to use at first the
website has become a daily use for me to keep my project organised and keep track of my progress and
planning.
When adding a new
post to my blog I
had to select what
to upload. My usual
process has been
adding a title,
followed by text
with brief summary
of the work done
and why and then
the document/
slideshow with my
work finished below
it.
I used Slideshare to
present my
Powerpoints. When
uploading my
powerpoints I had to do
so using a HTML code.
I’d just copy and paste
the HTML code onto
Weebly and my
powerpoint would show
up instantly in the
correct format.
6. Construction
I used Microsoft publisher to design flat plans for my ancillary products. I designed
the flat plan for a TV listings front cover but I changed this ancillary product to a
website.
7. Construction
I used iMovie to edit my soap trailer.
It allowed me to put clips together in
order and to add non diegetic
soundtracks which have a direct affect on
the mood of the trsiler.
I began by uploading all of my
video footage onto iMovie.
I selected the clips I wanted
to use and put them in
order into a sequence.
8. Construction
I downloaded several non diegetic songs off a
Youtube converter website and uploaded them
into iMovie over my sequence of shots to
enhance the trailer. MY trailer would have been
boring with no music.
I used diegetic sound from a certain
scene and cut it from the clip. I then
added this sound back over another clip
and repeated it three times with an echo
effect. This showed that the audio was
the thoughts of Ruby as it was anchored
to her walking through a graveyard.
