1. Reflection Unit two
Gabriela Quezada Cabezas
In the second unit of this course, we were able to learn how to assess students’
performance according to the skill they will perform on the corresponding task. Moreover, It was
possible to learn the differences in assessing productive and receptive skills and the type of
instrument that we should use to assess it, for example, a rating scale should be used to assess
reading or listening tasks, while an analytic or holistic rubric should be used to assess reading or
writing student’s performance on the task, due to this type of instrument provides the necessary
feedback, through the description of the student’s competences in his/her level of performance.
In the assignment of this unit, we were foster to think as teacher and we were asked to
create two communicative tasks (one based on a productive skill and the other one based on a
receptive skill) furthermore we have to think about the instrument used to assess the test taker’s
performance in both tasks. We had to think about the criteria to cover all the aspects of the task
and the score for each of them. This type of assignment was very useful in terms of practice for
what is to come when we start working as teachers or in our professional practicum.
