1. Adaptation
Baya Weaver (Ploceus Philippinus)
Baya weaver is a species of avian family that had similar characteristic with house sparrow or in
Bahasa we called them as ‘burung pipit’. Both male and female of this bird have similar colour
brown except for breeding male that change colour to yellow crown and off-white under parts.
This bird had small body which in range about 15 centimetres of their body length.
Baya weaver has some adaptation that enables them to survive in tropical area. The most
important adaptation is the way they find their food for survive. The shape of their bill shows us
the diet they take. Baya weaver has stout conical bill which suitable for them to eat seeds.
However, sometimes they also eat small insects, frogs and molluscs. Short and pointed bill shape
was adapted for crushing the hard material such as seeds, shells of molluscs and hard skin of
insects.
Baya weaver was one type of passerine birds which spend much time on the tree. They
have four fingers of feet which classified under anisodactylie. Anisodactylous feet are a type of
feet which has three toes forwards and one toe backwards. These flexible toes with claws make
them able to grasp strongly the branch when they rest or sleep.
Bird motion is important for them especially for passerine birds. For baya weaver, they
have elliptical wings which make them able to forage in flocks for seeds, both on the plants and
on the ground. This type of wings are short and rounded, having a low aspect ratio, allowing for
tight maneuvering in confined spaces such as in dense vegetation.
This species of bird was not listed as endangered, but sometimes they become pests in
some area because of their diet foraging the seeds such as wheat and paddy. If their population
too high in some area, they might need more food, thus make them becoming a pest that
damaging the crops.

2. White rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum)
White rhinoceros is one of five species of rhinoceros that still exist in this earth. This species is
the largest in body size.
White rhino have thick skin like elephant. Thick skin is used to reduce water loss
(because of hot and dry climate in Africa). White rhino also like to wallow in the mud to kill
insect parasites and as a sun block. Thick skin is also useful to complicate their predators to
pounce. Due to these advantages, white rhino is one of many animals that is not a victim of lion’s
attacks.
White rhino has square shaped of upper lip, this is because the type of diet they are
grazing. In terms of diet too, white rhino has the big mouth. This is probably due to the larger
size of its body rather than other species. The large mouth size also makes them easier to grind
more coarse Savanna grass structure
Horn that grows on front head of white rhino put in place by this species as a weapon for
self-defense and also to protect her child. During the mating season, the male of white rhino use
it as a weapon to fight with each other.
White rhino have a pretty good sense of smell. Because they are animals that live in
groups (in contrast to other rhino species), they are able to keep track of other individuals by
tracking the scent left along the track.
They also have a pretty good sense of hearing. They are able to hear sounds from a
distance. This ability enables them to protect themselves from enemies or other dangers. This
advantage is also important because of their weakness that can not afford to move faster due to
their large body and heavy head.

3. White rhino are the animals listed as endangered. Various efforts to conserve and
preserve has been made by various associations especially WWF in order to maintain their
populations on the earth, especially in the wildlife.
