• The loons are the size of large duck or

• Grebes are small to medium- large freshwater diving Birds. They have
lobed toes and are excellent swimmers and divers.

them quite ungainly on land.

• They feed on planktonic crustaceans and small fish picked from the
surface , typically while hovering .

• There are 21 species worldwide and 1 specie occurs in Pakistan.

• Because of there long neck ,which gives a snake-like appearance when
they swim with their bodies submerged.
• The male have black and dark brown plumage , an erectile crest on the
nape and a large bill then the female.
• The female have much paler plumage on the neck and underparts.
• Darters have webbed feet and their legs are short. And set far on the back
• They spread their wings after diving.
