A Practical Guide to email
Automation
What is email automation?
Email automation is the capability a marketer has ( with a robust email platform ) to
send time or action triggered emails to subscribers or customers with relevant content.
Automation can help you scale your marketing efforts, effortlessly. Email automation
helps provide a uniform message to your subscribers during on-boarding, transactions,
etc. — email automation makes email marketing more efficient, personalized, and rele-
vant.
In a nutshell
Our email automation feature operates on conditional logic: If X happens, then Y will be
triggered. This means that when you're setting up your automatons or auto-responders,
you're creating specific conditions for emails to automatically send.
There are many auto-responder triggers available to choose from. You can even use seg-
ments to trigger automated emails. Using segments as the basis for automated emails will
allow you to specifically target certain subscribers across multiple lists to receive emails.
For Example, you can setup a trigger that sends out an email to any subscriber named
John.
Action-based triggers will automatically send out email messages to a subscriber, based
on actions taken on the subscriber's end. A perfect example here will be welcome emails,
which are automatically sent when, say a subscriber sets up a new subscription to your
service. These type of triggers can be immediate or at a certain time after the action is
taken. So here, a subscriber can receive a welcome email immediately after they sub-
scribe and the following on-boarding emails at previously-scheduled intervals.
How email automation works
DashingMail uses an array of trigger options to automatically send a single email or series
of emails to a specific list of subscribers or section of subscribers from multiple lists in your
account.
Triggers include, opens, clicks, new subscribers, recurring. Our system makes it very easy to
set email triggers.
Date & Time-based Automatons are setup to send out, either one email message or a se-
ries of email messages, based on date and time. The date and/or time can be based on cer-
tain dates and times within your list or specific, pre-determined dates and times. For exam-
ple, you can use DashingMail's Date automation to send out emails wishing "Happy birth-
day" to your clients on or before the dates of their birthdays. Here you would create a seg-
ment to use along with the automation feature.
When a date-based automated campaign is paused, your subscribers will not have to wait
in line to receive your next email. This is because there will be a specific date for them to
receive your email. If the email is inactive at the time a subscriber is scheduled to receive
something, the email won't go out at that time, and the subscriber moves into the next
queue in the series of automated emails.
Automation Options
With DashingMail's robust, cloud-based email marketing system, any small business owner
or marketer can have access to various options when it comes to building versatile email
automation campaigns. The main options available are:
List changes automation campaigns will start to send out email messages based on when a
customer r subscriber is added to your list or group in your account. Other list-based email
messages may be triggered when a subscriber unsubscribes to your list. These triggers will
work even if you manually add a new subscriber you your list.
Customized email automation can be campaigns, containing a series of automated email
messages sent out based on a combination of various triggers, across multiple subscriber
lists. This option is great for those who wish to create a highly-interactive automation cam-
paign.
Date-Based Automated email campaigns will send out your email messages based on a
specific date, such as a birthday or anniversary, or when data in a list field changes.
Recurring Email automations will send out a specific email message to specific subscribers
on your list at a given time of each day selected. These types of messages come in handy
when the email message is meant to remind a subscriber of a repeating activity.
For example, these can be sent out to remind someone taking classes during the curse of
the program. Such campaigns can be great for Doctor's visits reminders for the elderly. This
option will also allow you to pick out black-out dates such as Saturdays and Sundays.
When to use automation
As a general rule, automated email campaigns are great when you have content you want
to automatically deliver to your subscribers at a specific time. Below are some common sit-
uations when email automation may be appropriate, but really, when it comes to email au-
tomation, you can dig deep in your imagination and create whichever campaign meets your
unique needs.
When a subscriber is added to your list: Welcome new subscribers with a single email—or
a series—to introduce your company, products and/or services. Set the expectations for fu-
ture communications and offer any discounts or promotions at this stage. Some firms will
provide specific instruction on the next steps a subscriber needs to take to be able to take
full advantage of service offerings.
When a series of emails or connected messages are concerned: This is a typical strategy
used by online educational outfits to automatically send out course content over a period
of time. Here you can use DashingMail's webform to help automatically move one group of
subscribers into a new group. For example, you can require students to fill out a short form,
indicating they have completed a particular course, thus triggering the next course to be
sent out.
When a single, Annual email is needed: This is an obvious choice to send out single email
or anniversary wishes. Allow recurring -Annual emails campaigns.
To Automatically send out Highly personalized emails: Most email marketing solutions are
