2. 1. COME VS GO
Go usually expresses a movement away from the
position the speaker is in now; Come expresses a
movement towards the speaker.
For example:
I had to go to Jimmy’s to pick up some books; then I
went to the post office before I came to school.

3. COME VS GO
Come is followed by certain adjective to describe a
change in state (usually to a better state) while go
usually refers to a worse state).
For example:
Unfortunately, fairy stories rarely come true.
In hot weather, meat goes bad and milk goes sour
quickly, so be careful.
4. Some expression related to go:
- When you leave a place in order to an activity, you often
express it either with go + v-ing or go (out) + for + a noun
We could go shopping
She wants to go (out) for a walk
- It is often used to describe the speed something is traveling
(also do)
We are going about 80 kph when the accident happened.
- When you want to ask/say if a road or form of transport
takes you somewhere.
Does this bus go to (=take me to) the National Gallery.
I don’t think this road goes to (=leads to) the station.
- It’s my go (also it’s my turn.
- I’ve never tried bungee jumping but I’d love to have a go
(=try).
5. 2. Gone vs Been
Gone means ‘go away’, ‘leave a place’. Been
means ‘gone away and returned’.
For example:
Where has your son gone? ‘He’s gone to
China, and he’s coming back next month.’
Where has your son been? ‘He’s been in
China. He came back last week.
6. 3. Bring vs Take
• Bring means make someone or something
come while take means make someone or
something go.
For example:
Bring those book here!
Take that dog away!
7. 4. Remember, stop, forget and love
- Remember
I remembered to buy a present for my brother (=I didn’t forget to buy a
present)
I remembered buying her a present (=it’s in my memory; it happened and I
remembered)
- Stop
I stopped smoking.
I stop to smoke.
- Forget
Don’t forget to lock the door this evening. (future or now)
I’ll never forget getting lost when we were climbing in the Semeru last
years (past).
- Love
- I’d love to visit the country-but I’ve got to stay here in the city (possible to
do)
- I love visiting the country. It’s so nice, walking and getting some fresh
water (explaining the administration of the action)
8. Make, do, have, take
- Make
a mistake, a meal, money, friends, a decision, a
noise, progress
- Do
homework, housework, subjects, shopping,
research, a favour
- Have
a rest, a drink, a bath, a party, a baby, a time
- Take
an exam, a photo, a decision, a bus, a shower
