Judiciary is the Law Enforcing Body. 
Duty of Judiciary is to protect the right of 
citizens to preserve law & order and to 
suggest solutions for the various disputes 
that arise in society. 
Judiciary is a unified system.
Highest authority in the judiciary. 
It consists of a Chief Justice & 25 judges. 
Judges were appointed by the President of India. 
The official term of judges is up to the age of 65.

The Supreme Court can take up matters 
directly on: 
 Disputes between the Centre & the 
States. 
 Disputes between States. 
 Petitions on the Fundamental Rights.
Supreme court is the highest court of 
appeal in the country. 
It can hear appeals on the judgments 
made by the High Courts in civil, criminal 
and constitutional cases.
Supreme court works as an advisory 
body. 
If the President asks for an opinion at 
important junctures ; the Supreme Court 
can give its opinion on legal matters.
The judiciary is able to function 
independently without interference from 
the legislature & the executive. 
The Supreme Court is at the apex. 
Below Supreme Court there is High 
Courts and Lower Courts.
