1. Markets crash 1.4% ahead of IIP and CPI data; Nifty@7460

After yesterdayβs oscillation, Indian markets made a cautious but green start to cheer Q1 numbers of Infosys.
Subsequently, indices slumped in negative territory dragged by sharp selling in frontline blue chip stocks amidst
pessimistic mood due to weak rainfall in the country. Benchmarks magnified losses to crash 1.4% at the close. Sensex
slumped 348 points to near 25K and Nifty cracked 108 points to settle at 7460. On the BSE sectorial front, Realty
topped the laggard whereas IT index was the top gainer.
Among global peers, US markets slipped in negative terrain as a decision by Portugal bank to delay a debt payment
hinted about the fragility of Europeβs banking system. Additionally Asian markets were also trading mostly in red
whereas European indices were trading in green zone.
Back home, on currency front, Rupee traded flat against Dollar ahead of IIP and CPI data. In futures trades, INR hit
an intra-day high of 60.21/USD and an intra-day low of 60.46/USD. In spot trades, INR hit an intra-day high of
60.03/USD and an intra-day low of 60.3/USD. As per RBI reference rates, INR stood at 60.19/USD.
On commodities front, the yellow metal pared all the early made citing Portugal Bank worries. In futures trades of
August expiry, Gold marked intra-day high at Rs 28528 per 10 grams and an intra-day low at Rs 28231 per 10 grams.
On the stock-specific front, Polaris Financial Technology tanked 6.65% on BSE after Orbitech offloaded 15 lakh
shares of the company via open market route on an average price of Rs 237.76 valuing the transaction to Rs 35.66
crore.
IT bellwether, Infosys gained 1% in the otherwise negative market on registering 20.88% jump in Q1FY15 Net at Rs
2720 crore as compared to Rs 2250 crore for the same quarter in the previous year. On consolidated basis, the group
net rose 21.56% to Rs 2886 crore for the quarter as compared to Rs 2374 crore in Q1 FY14.
IL&FS Engineering and Construction Company jumped 2.8% on BSE on bagging an EPC contract from Ministry of
Petroleum and Natural Gas worth Rs 213 crore for laying Pipeline for storage of crude oil.
The market breadth on the BSE closed in negative. Advancing and declining stocks were 788 and 2269 respectively,
while 95 scrips remained unmoved.
The S&P BSE Sensex ended at 25024.35, down 348.40 points or 1.37%. The 30 share index touched a high and a
low of 25548.33 and 24978.33 respectively. 9 stocks advanced against 21 declining ones on the benchmark index.
The CNX Nifty lost 108.15 points or 1.43% to settle at 7459.60. The index touched high and low of 7625.85 and
7447.20 respectively. 12 stocks advanced against 38 declining ones on the index.
S&P BSE Sensex CNX Nifty
The S&P BSE Mid-cap index moved down to 8875.24 and lost 2.81% while S&P BSE Small-cap index hammered
down by 3.31% to 9688.11.
The broader S&P BSE 500 index decreased to 9509.77 (down 1.87%) and CNX 500 index declined to 5991.70 (down
1.86%).
The volatility as denoted by INDIA VIX lost 1.57% at 15.72 from its previous close of 15.97 on Thursday.

On the BSE Sectorial front, Information Technology (up 1.42%), Healthcare (up 1.09%) and FMCG (up 0.51%) were
the top gainers.
Real Estate (down 5.16%), Capital Goods (down 4.75%) and Power (down 4.54%) were the top losers.
The Angels and the Devils
Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd (up 2.28%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (up 2.13%), Dr. Reddys Laboratories
Ltd (up 2.00%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd (up 1.42%) and Wipro Ltd (up 1.42%) were the top gainers on the Sensex.
Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (down 8.10%), Hindalco Industries Ltd (down 5.59%), State Bank of India (down 4.96%),

On the other end Larsen And Toubro Ltd (-19.45 points), Reliance Industries Ltd (-15.83 points), Housing
