This document discusses stereotypes that are common in Afghanistan. It provides three examples of stereotypes: 1) gender roles, where it is commonly assumed that women cannot work in public, 2) tribal bias, where people believe their own tribe is better than others, and 3) bias on social media, where some claim they are not Afghan because it represents only Pashtuns. The document encourages raising public awareness of stereotypes and keeping them out of public media and discussions. It concludes by advising people to consider the disadvantages of stereotypes and misjudging others before making assumptions.

Public awareness on stereotype in Afghanistan
Stereotypes are a part of our life, human typecasts everywhere in the world. but mostly in
Afghanistan. Now let us explainwhat stereotype is?It is defined in Merriam –Webster dictionary.
That stereotype is to believe unfairly that all people or things with a particular personality are
the same. To illustrate more about stereotype I am going to give some examples. First, gender
roles in our society everybody assumes that woman cannot work in public. In order to avoid that
beliefs consider other Muslims countries that we notice women are pilots, security officers, and
doctors but with less consideration of Hijab. As a matter of fact we consider additional hijab
which is good according to Islam. For example, there is a matter of sickness for female and she is
related to our family member. In this case who will you visit for a treatment male or female?
According to our culture of course we must visit the female doctor. As another example, if we
have a matter of security threat what will be the best option to investigate a female criminal? It
is clear that a female security officer will be the best selection to search the female suspect.
Second, tribal bias which is common in our country. While we witness that in Afghanistan there
are different tribes and languages according to different regions and provinces, we notice that
different provinces consider that they are better than others in terms of tribes and language; in
fact we are wrong as our great (Prophet Mohammad) stated that Arab are not better than Non-
Arab and white is not better than Black but the best person is that one who pious. The third
example is bias in social media. In Facebook we all see that some people posts pictures, videos
saying that they are not Afghans because Afghans represent Pashton tribes actually these
pictures are composed in computers by the enemies of Afghans which result in the destruction
of Afghanistan. If a few people claim that they are not afghans because the word Afghan
represents Pashtoons, these people do not represent all majority of other tribes. All in all, before
you misjudge someone’s beliefs, gender roles, accents, ethics and tribe, deeply consider the
disadvantages and encourage people to be aware of stereotype and also to keep away from the
phenomenon of stereotype in public media and everywhere else they go.
