A transgender person is someone
whose personal idea of gender
does not correlate with his or her
assigned gender role.
Transgender is the state of one’s gender
identity or gender expression not
matching one’s assigned sex.
WhAT TRANSGENDER mEANS?
• Transgender people are people whose gender identity is
different from the gender they were thought to be at birth.
• “Trans” is often used as shorthand for transgender. When
we're born, a doctor usually says that we're male or
female based on what our bodies look like.
hoW iS TRANSGENDER cAuSED?
• Transgender people have a gender identity that does not
match their assigned sex, often resulting in gender
dysphoria.
• The causes of transsexuality have been studied for decades.
The most studied factors are biological, especially brain
structure differences in relation to biology and sexual
orientation.
WhAT iS A TRANSGENDER mAlE mEAN?
• For example, a transgender male is someone who doesn't
identify with the sex assigned at birth and has a sense of
self that's male.
• Some transgender people change their appearance, body,
name, or legal gender marker to convey and affirm their
internal experience of gender.
Who WAS ThE fiRST pERSoN To bE

• She returned to the United States in the early 1950s and
her transition was the subject of a New York Daily News
front-page story.
•Commonly Used Terms
•  Trans – short for transgender or transsexual (E.g.:
trans people, trans community, he or she is trans)
•  Trans girl and trans women – Male to Female
•  Trans guy, trans boy and trans man – Female to Male
hoW cAN i bE A TRANSGENDER?
•For transgender and transsexual people, this
process commonly involves reassignment therapy
(which may include hormone replacement
therapy and sex reassignment surgery), with their
gender identity being opposite that of their birth-
assigned sex and gender.
WhAT Do you mEAN by TRANSGENDER

• A trans woman is a woman who was assigned male at
birth. Trans women may experience gender dysphoria and
may transition; this process commonly includes hormone
replacement therapy and sometimes sex reassignment
surgery, which can bring relief and resolve feelings of
gender dysphoria.
hoW mANy SExES ARE ThERE?
•Based on the sole criterion of production of
reproductive cells, there are two and only two sexes:
the female sex, capable of producing large gametes
(ovules), and the male sex, which produces small
gametes (spermatozoa).
WhAT ARE ThE SympTomS of TRANSGENDER?
•7 signs your child is a transgender
Listen to your child. ...
Wanting to pee the other way. ...
Taking dress-ups seriously. ...
Referring to them as the opposite gender. ...
No interest in activities conventionally related to their gender. ...
Not getting the conventional haircut. ...
Not liking their name. ...
Frustration over their genitals.
Who ARE TRANSGENDER bioloGicAlly?
• Transgender people have a gender identity or gender
expression that differs from the sex that they were assigned
at birth. Some transgender people who desire medical
assistance to transition from one sex to another identify
as transsexual.
TRANSGENDER AND pRoblEmS of
TRANSGENDER
•  Once transgender people start living their lives as the opposite gender,
many issues may come up — like how to fill out forms that require
checking "female" or "male," and even which public bathrooms to use.
•  For people who are transgender, the realization that they feel different
from others also can be very difficult.
• They may face rejection, discrimination, and even anger from people
who don't understand transgender identity, and it can be a challenge to
deal with others' reactions.
• Not everyone is tolerant or accepting, and transgender teens can face
situations that can feel hostile and be unfair. This may lead to feelings of
depression and isolation.
hElpiNG TRANSGENDER TEENS
•  The idea that people can feel that they're in the wrong
gender bodies is something that many people have never heard
of or don't understand.
• Being transgender is something some people feel
uncomfortable thinking or talking about.
•  For some parents, learning that their son wants to be a
girl (or their daughter wants to be a boy) can be shocking.
• In the beginning, parents may feel a range of emotions,
including disappointment and a sense of loss.
Contd.,
• Advocacy groups and a growing number of health
professionals can help transgender people find acceptance,
support, rights, and care.
• Many expert medical centers are available to help
transgender people —and their families — address the
complex physical and emotional issues they might face.
pRoblEmS fAcED
 Transgender are likely to live in poverty.
 They experience unemployment twice that of the
general population.
 They experience harassment, mistreatment or
discrimination
 Some victims who have interacted with police reported
of harassment by police.
 Some of them attempted suicide.
 Transgender people still can’t serve in military.
 Transgender have no access to toilets.
RiGhTS
 All adults and capable minors should be able to choose
between female (F), male (M), non-binary or multiple options.
 Equality in access to education and healthcare for
transgender.
 Facilitate employment to transgender people.
