Homophobia its a way to be afraid, scared,
hate, or discriminate women and men who
recognize themselves as homosexual.
Research has shown that prejudice against gay
people and homosexuality can be influenced
by the person:
• Having strong religious beliefs that disapprove
of sex and/or homosexuality
• Having little/no social contact with lesbian and
gay people
• Reporting no homosexual experiences or
feelings
The International Day Against Homophobia, held on
May 17 every year, is an event offering an
opportunity for people to get together and reach
out to one another. Fondation Émergence
promotes, mainly on a pan-Canadian level,
the International Day Against Homophobia and
encourages organizations and individuals to
highlight this event in their environment.
