 Meibomian cyst
 MG usually, also zeis gland
 Due to blocked oil glands

3. Signs and symptoms
 Eye lid : painless swelling , tenderness ( none to mild) ,
heaviness
 Watering eye
 Conjunctival redness

4. complications
 Large – astigmatism
 Laser sx – post op patients
 Cortico-steroid injection
 Re occurrence

6. Treatment ( general)
 Moist warm compress;10 to 15 mins ; QID
 Scrub the lid margin with a mild baby shampoo
 Topical antibiotic e/d or e/o ( eg : tobramycin) and
cortico-steroids (eg: dexamethasone )
 Oral anti – inflammatory drugs , eg: diclofenac

7. Steroid injection
 Intra lesional injection of long acting steroid
 Sub cutaneous injection of soluble steroids
 0.1-0.2 ml TA { Triamicinolone Acetonide} –lesion
center – 1 or 2 times
 Marginal lesion , lesion close to punctum – safer procedure
 Risk – focal pigmentation

8. Co2 laser
 Minimum bleeding
 Safe
 No need of P$ B

9. I and C
 Surface anaesthesia – xylocaine drops and 2% xylocaine
solution
 Incision – sharp blade , vertical on the conjunctival side and
horizontal on the skin side
 Curette – chalazion scoop
 Carbolic acid cautery , neutralisation with
methylated spirit
 Patching of eye – for 6 to 12 hrs , after instilling antibiotic e/o
 Post op tx : hot fomentation , antibiotic eye drops , oral anti
inflammatory , oral antibiotics (4 to 5 days )

11. Oral tetracycline
 Given as prophylaxis in recurrent Chalazia.
