Practice Paper 7
Micro-teaching Experience
When we were designing the mini-lesson, one idea that we had in mind was the
fact that children have short attention span, which means that they get bored
incredibly fast. For that reason, we thought about short and easy activities. We
already knew that children need to have a routine, so that is why we thought about
writing the topic of the lesson "Vowels" on the whiteboard and make some
flashcards related to the weather. We decided to dance and sing the song because
we thought that children will love to do that.
Children love running, so in the second activity we tried to combine learning and
having fun. During the game, children were learning spelling of different colours
and objects at the same time they were trying to win. Fortunately, we got a positive
reaction from our classmates.
In the third activity, we continued making focus on spelling, but this time with
animals. Children love painting too, so that is why the last activity was painting. We
decided to do this activity at the end because if we did it at the beginning, then, it
would have been difficult to continue with the lesson. Children would probably
prefer keep on painting instead of doing something else.
I was very nerveous at the beginning, but then, when I started to talk, dance and
sing I felt really comfortable. As the minutes passed, I became happier and more
excited because our mini-lesson finished better as we have imagined. I think that
this experience was a great practice before going to a real class with "real"
children. Through our own experience and the comments that were provided by the
teacher we know what our weak or strong points were; what we have to improve or
what we do well.
