 appointments, and hence substantially
 reduces costs to the local CCG

 When clinicians know that their referrals
 are being studied and double-checked by a
 peer clinician, this results in more care
 being taken when making referrals

 This improvement in standards at primary
 care level – combined with the enhanced
 services being offered by a community
 provider – contributes to the significant
 reduction in hospital referrals
Reduced waiting times

 The knock-on effect of referral reduction is
 that patient waiting times are dramatically
 reduced

 In Suffolk, all patients sent to the community
 were seen within 2 weeks
Glaucoma analysis

 To show the impact our system has had on a
 single disease area, results were investigated
 in suspect glaucoma

 Of the inbound referral activity, 38% were sent to
 a community provider

 provider, 73% were safely discharged to
 the original referrer
