• seven FMD viruses (FMDV) serotypes : O, A, Asia1, C, SAT1, SAT2 and SAT3
• since FMD can spread fast and cannot be differentiated clinically from other vesicular
diseases such as vesicular stomatitis (VS) and swine vesicular disease (SVD), rapid and
specific identification of the agent is required
• FMDV antigenic diagnostic methods mentioned in the OIE manual:
- virus isolation, immunological methods (i.e. sandwich ELISA) and nucleic acid recognition
methods (i.e. RT-PCR and real-time RT-PCR).
- ELISA test as “the preferred procedure for the detection of FMD viral antigen (Ag) and
identification of viral serotype”.

A new pan FMDV DAS antigen ELISA prototype using multi-serotype-reactive monoclonal antibodies
The new panFMD DAS ELISA prototype is able to
accurately detect all seven serotypes of FMDV and does
not cross-react with other viruses that cause vesicular
diseases (SVD).
The IDvet pan FMD DAS ELISA prototype showed better analytical
sensitivity than other techniques. Preliminary results lead to indicate
there is a wider spectrum of detection,evenon SAT antigens.
