This document defines and describes several documentary types including docudrama, which reenacts real events with actors; fly on the wall documentaries which observe situations without interfering using cinema verité or direct cinema techniques; docusoaps which follow people in a particular occupation or location over time with more entertainment focus; mixed documentaries which combine various materials like interviews and archive footage with narration; fully narrated documentaries with voice-over narration that don't show the speaker anchoring the meaning of visuals; and self-reflexive documentaries where the camera is acknowledged and the filmmaker may appear on screen.
