Kandinsky was the first artist to use abstract art to express emotions. He was born in Russia in 1866 and studied law but later became interested in art. He helped develop abstract art by using shapes, lines, colors and forms to create non-representational works meant to convey emotion rather than depict real objects. Kandinsky had synesthesia which allowed him to see colors when hearing music and hear sounds when seeing colors. He sought to use color in his paintings to elicit emotional responses from viewers.
