Rhodes Scholar.
The Rhodes Scholarship is one of the most
prestigious scholarships in the world. It was
founded in 1902 upon the death of Cecil Rhodes,
who provided in his will for scholarships to be
established and overseen by appointed trustees.
Currently, 89 scholarships are awarded annually
to applicants from over 20 specified countries.
3. Rhodes Scholarships
A change was announced in late 2015 with regard
to who may qualify to apply for the United States
Rhodes Scholarships. Previously, only those who
resided or attended university in any of the 50
states or in the District of Columbia were eligible.
Starting 2016, all U.S. citizens as well as certain
United States legal permanent residents who
study at universities in the U.S. territories can
apply for the scholarships.
These territories include Guam, Northern Mariana
Islands, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands,
and Puerto Rico.
