Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca is best known as the first Spaniard to explore what we now consider to
be southwestern United States. His nine–year odyssey is chronicled within the book The Chronicle
of the Narvaez Expedition. His account is considered especially interesting because it is one of the
very first documents that illustrates interactions between American natives and explorers. However,
when examining the exploration of the modern United States, there are many arguments that have to

My childhood is full of many fond memories. When I think back to some of the earliest times, I can
only remember tiny sparks and flickers of certain moments. However, at a certain age, I began to

Lewis and Clark started their expedition in 1803. President Jefferson sent them to the west into the

On February 28, 1803, President Thomas Jefferson, with the approval of congress, created the Corps
of Discovery. Their mission was to map the newly acquired western lands of the Louisianna
Purchase, almost 1803–828,000 square miles of unexplored territory, as well as find a route to the

adventure, the group encountered many hostile Native American groups, and if not for Sacagawea,

The Hidatsas lived far from her native land, right by the Missouri River (Now it's Bismarck, North
Dakota). She was kept there as a slave for three years, where she learned to speak their language,
their methods of farming, and familiarize herself with the surrounding territory. Even though she
was kept as a slave, she still worked side by side with the women of this tribe. There were many
benefits of living with this tribe: she was treated as the rest of the women, there was plenty of food

I choose to write my critical essay on renowned Antarctic explorer Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton and
his book, South: The story of Shackleton's Last Expedition. The story of Shackleton's leadership and

For my historical event analysis, I have chosen the Louisiana Purchase as my historic event.
President Thomas Jefferson had a strong belief that western expansion would protect the United
States. This was secured through the Louisiana Purchase. This event helped create better security
and created many economic opportunities. This event was significant because it doubled the United
States in size (Independence Hall Association, 2017). It also gave the United States government
prime access to the Mississippi river which would open up trade and travel opportunities. The land
bought stretched from today's Louisiana to north most of today's Minnesota. It also went westward
to half of what is today's Wyoming, Colorado, and Montana. Without this major purchase being
made, westward expansion would not have occurred and Manifest Destiny would not have been
achieved.
In looking at the economic and geographic effects that the Louisiana Purchase made, I will try to
answer the following research question: During Thomas Jefferson's presidency, how did the
Louisiana Purchase lead to Manifest Destiny for the United States? One primary source I discovered

president Thomas Jefferson to explore the newly bought Louisiana Purchase. The Louisiana

A finish line is more than just a victory or a loss, but the end of a journey, but there are many more
to be had, and one must again set off. A visionary is not someone who sits aside whilst ruminating
about what could be but alternatively someone who is able to create a vision grounded in possibility.
Shackleton stands out as a visionary explorer by being able to set aside what Collins and Porras
define as the "We 've Arrived syndrome (Collins & Porras, 1996, p. 12)." No matter the outcome

Meriwether Lewis is one of the most qualified candidates for being on the $10 bill. Meriwether
Lewis is most widely known for his part in leading the Corps of Discovery on their expedition
across the land of the recently acquisitioned Louisiana Purchase. The expedition took place between
May of 1804 to September of 1806 and spanned from St. Louis, Missouri to Fort Clatsop in present
day Oregon. During this period Lewis, the Corps, and his former commanding officer and friend
William Clark set out to observe and map the Western lands. Along the way, Lewis and his
companions discovered many new species of wildlife and plants. Many of these species are
represented by sketches in the logs both Lewis and Clark kept. After returning from their expedition,
Lewis became the governor of the Louisiana territory and was given a generous slice of land in the
new region. In 1809, he attempted suicide while on the road to Washington D.C. While Lewis was
