I realized that to really pursue my interest I needed to go to a top university and worked hard in high
school to achieve that aim. I was able to do just that and secured admission to BITS Pilani through
the one most competitive engineering entrance exam in the country with a 3% selection ratio with
an additional requirement of 80% in physics, chemistry & mathematics. While choosing my
specialization I went through the structure of the programs offered and realized that the being a

ambitions.

After completing my under graduation, I received multiple job options and opted to work for the

storage team. I have been working there for the last 14 months i.e. from Oct 2012 and it has been an
extremely satisfying experience so far.
I have been developing & enhancing features of software which is responsible for managing &
monitoring of storage appliances at datacenters. Oracle has given me an opportunity to work in my
area of interest and here I also have gotten the opportunity to work on virtualization based storage
technologies like zpool on Solaris, Logical Volume Manager, techniques on how to use available
hardware to maximum benefit, and on constructing a system which would facilitate administrators in
managing resources.
My work at Oracle has given me practical insights into the world of storage, the industrial standards,

2. Why I Want to Attend Graduate School Essay
I would like to Attend Capella University's Masters Program in School Counseling. I have always
known that I wanted to work with children ever since I can remember. Working with children is
something that I have always enjoyed doing even if it was tutoring, or just being around them.
The reason I want to receive my Master's Degree in School Counseling is to become a Guidance
Counselor. Being a guidance counselor you can make a difference in a child's life, whether it's
talking to them about their grades, peer pressure, or any of the things that children of all ages go
through in school and in life. The moment I knew I wanted to be a guidance counselor was at the
age of 14, and attending middle school. I can remember my guidance...show more content...
The program that I was assigned to work with was the After School Program. At first I was just an
assistant for the teachers, but then I became one of the lead teachers. I helped with homework,
reading, planning activities, creating the curriculum and a lot more. I stayed with the center
throughout the entire school year. When some of the kids came there they were struggling with
certain subjects such as reading and math. When they received their first report card the grades
were kind of low, but after a while there grades slowly progressed and they were so excited to
show me there grades it made me so happy. It made me feel good to know that I made a difference
in their lives. After I finished my needed hours for the internship I still stayed at the center
because I felt like the kids there needed me and I made a difference in their lives. I guess the
director felt I was such a huge help to the students that they decided to hire me full time. Due to
lack of funding the center closed down and the students no longer had a place to go. I still keep in
contact with some of the parents and students just to see how they are doing and they all say the
same thing, I helped them stay on the right path. Every time I see one of them I know that I made a
difference. I am now employed with the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services
where I am a Medicaid Eligibility worker. I determine eligibility for

Department of interest: Industrial design
I'm drawn to design because it is everywhere and has the potential to affect so much of how people
feel about a certain space or about an experience. From a young age, I was fortunate to be exposed
to art; my parents would constantly take my brother and me to museums and galleries and at home,
my grandmother would teach me skills such as crocheting, needlepoint and how to replicate food out
of playdough. In both elementary school and middle school I drew and created little things such as
bookmarks and stuffed animals, but I was never known as the "art kid". I loved art and I understood
that there was so much potential to create something original and to express an idea, but I just didn't

I ended up teaching myself Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop so I could make my assignments live

of different materials and the problem solving it takes to make what I had decided I am going to
make. Where I had previously liked graphic design best, I realized that I found a different kind of
satisfaction from physically creating an object. The final step that inspired my realization, was a
communications class in which, one of the projects was to invent a product and create a print ad
for it. While doing this project, it all clicked for me. I ended up creating way more material for the
product than was required because I got sucked into the world that I created for it, fantasizing about
packaging and display and consistent branding. It combined everything I liked: graphic design, new
materials, 3D elements and for me all this pointed to industrial

6. Pursuing A Graduate Degree Essay
Pursuing a graduate degree, specifically a PhD, is a decision that was made only in the last few
years. This new direction was largely based on my recent exposure to higher education in general,
but to minority women in higher education specifically. To help explain how this exposure helped
to propel my desire to pursue a graduate degree at this point in my life, I feel it's important to
provide you with some background information and context of my upbringing. My parents are
immigrated from Mexico shortly after getting married. Although my father had been coming to
the United States since he was a teen to work, he did this seasonally and would return to Mexico
when the agricultural season ended. After my parents married they settled in a small agricultural
town in a coastal town of California. It is in this small town that my parents raised their 6 children.
Holding on to their traditional values we were raised in a traditional manner; from a young age the
girls were expected to help out in the house and contribute by doing housework while the boys were
expected to help my father which included helping out in the fields. It was in this way that my
parents tried to instill many of the same values which they had acquired in their youth growing up in
Mexico. Although they wanted us to do well in school it wasn't something that was strongly
emphasized. Perhaps it was due to their limited exposure to education and the lack of educational
opportunities my parent's had growing up.

To increase my technical knowledge, I regularly attend the national level seminars held by IEEE,
and also participated in one seminar, which was held in our college. The seminar was on the
dependence of wireless communications on DSP and it made a great impact on me. It was about the
enhancement of a signal by manipulating the corresponding parameters such that the unwanted
signals are eliminated. From this stemmed my desire to pursue MS in electrical engineering with
Communications as my major.
To keep pace with fast growing technology, I visited National Remote Sensing Agency (NRSA),
Hyderabad as a part of industrial visit. There I had the opportunity to see how the earth station
receives digital data from the satellite and how the data is processed and stored. I also visited Elico,
Hyderabad, an industry that deals with production of basic circuit elements such as resistors,
capacitors, inductors, transformers, etc. I could examine some of the automated machines that are
used in production and also examined various techniques of testing. An industrial visit to Tibcon

A movement of people, ideas, services, and goods that increasingly see no boundaries fascinated
me. More so because I, myself, am a product of transplantation. Since then, my otherwise typical
