2. My media product represents teenagers from the
lower to middle class. I say this because the
magazine itself is cheap and not as sophisticated
as those magazines with a target market of higher
class e.g. Marie Claire.
NME magazine is another example of middle to
high class target market because of its discreet
and worldly wise writing. Although mine is a little
bit sophisticated, I still want to have a target
market of young adults as they are elusive and
very distracted with other things rather than just
reading a magazine.

3. The teenagers/young adults that have been my
target audience are aged 15-24. These ages are
usually the ones who mostly go to concerts, buy
albums and intrigued about interviews. Therefore,
I’ve portrayed them through language and mode of
address. I used exclamation marks for some of my
cover line and pugs.
The use of mise-en-scene is another way to
portray and represent my target audience. Rock
genre is usually associated with black, dark-
coloured clothes, seriousness and expression of
youth rebel against adult conformity. I’ve chosen
each person in my central image to be my cover
model because their chemistry as a band is
overwhelming.
The reason for this is because it indicates strong
feelings towards the product I’m selling and it can
express admiration and excitement which young
adults can relate to. This makes me to conform to
the usual language that they can understand as part
of my marketing strategy to sell my media product.
4. However, rock music is also associated with
negative things like attitudes to violence, drug use,
sex and race. Base on my central image, I did not
portray my rock stars as reckless role models
because I want to challenge the norm.
Furthermore, the
background is nature which
is not the usual scene in a
rock magazine as I want to
challenge the perception of
society towards rock stars
because they no bands
would think about nature or
environment.
5. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do
you feel you have learnt in the progression
from it to the full product?
Question 7
6. My preliminary task was school magazine. I’ve learnt how magazines are
laid out which really helped me doing this music magazine. Also, I’ve
learnt about the conventions of a magazine that I used to point out
which are the important ones to include in my current magazine. The
significant features I included are the central image, masthead, barcode
& price and cover lines. These features are important to emphasize the
contents of the magazine and outline what it’s all about.
