Polynesians In The Film Moana
Disney was justified in making the film "Moana" and was not culturally insensitive to the
Polynesian people because, Disney has worked hard for 5 years researching Polynesians and their
culture; they have hired Polynesian actors and songwriters; and Disney have made sure to truly
depict the terrain of the Polynesians.
Disney has sent many people to research the Polynesian islands, to truly understand the Polynesian
culture. In article 3 it states, "For the past five years, Clements and Musker have been making trips
to the Pacific Islands including Samoa, Tahiti, Mo'orea, and Fiji." This shows the directors took
great care to study the Polynesian people, their homes and their culture. It also shows that Disney
did this to make sure they weren't being insensitive or stereotyping Polynesian people. Another
piece of evidence from article 1 is, "Every word is chosen carefully, every color discussed and every
motion debated" This shows that they paid attention to detail. And that Disney spent much time to
make sure everything ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first article they say, "Miranda worked with Hawaiian songwriter and musician Opetaia Foa'i,
so the music would sound authentic." This once again shows the dedication to making the film
authentic. In addition the directors understood that music is a big part of the Polynesians culture and
i'm sure the Polynesians appreciated having authentic music. A further quote from article 1 is, "They
found Auli'l Cravalho, and it is her first acting job. The teen grew up in a small town and attended an
all–Hawaiian school where she learned the folklore of Maui, which is one of the islands of Hawaii."
A choice like this shows that they wanted to make the voice of Moana authentic with everything
else. Moana is authentic because they hired an authentic Polynesian. Auli'l Cravalho was also a good
choice because she grew up and is familiar with Maui and the

Trobriand Islanders-Malinowski and Weiner

Banana Leaf Bundles and Skirts:
A Pacific Penelope's Web?
Margaret Jolly
In her review of the significance of cloth in Pacific polities, Annette Weiner has evoked the persona
of Penelope, "weaving by day, and unweaving the same fabric by night, in order to halt time" (1986,
108).[1] This image of a Pacific Penelope halting time was inspired by Weiner's reanalysis of the
Trobriand islands. In her monograph (1976), in several subsequent papers (1980, 1982a, 1983a,
1986) and in her shorter text (1988) she conclusively demonstrated that Malinowski and a host of
other male observers had failed to see women's central place in Trobriand exchange: that in fixating

Not far from this gravesite, another stone marks the grave of Mitakata, successor to Touluwa and
Powell's informant in 1950. Mitakata died in 1961, and Vanoi became his heir. (1976, xix)
The rhetorical device that Weiner uses in Women of Value, Men of Renown, namely, heading each
section with a quotation from Malinowski, does, as she suggests, highlight their historical relation,
but, again, ultimately it stresses the consistency of their ethnographic questions and the constancy of

in a later essay.
What initially astounded me upon my arrival in Kiriwina was the striking similarity between a
Kiriwina village in 1971 and Malinowski's descriptions and photographs of the same village in
1922. Although superficially some things had changed (an airstrip, tourists, some Western clothing)
everything else was as if nothing was changed. (Weiner 1980, 272)
The introductory notes to this later essay situate the Massim in Melanesian colonial history–

Was Disney Justified In The Film Moana
Lately, three articles were reviewed for the film, Moana, depicting whether Disney was being
stereotypical and insensitive to the Polynesian culture. Many people think that Disney was wrong in
the depiction of the character's appearances, especially relating to the demigod character, Maui.
Disney was justified in creating the Moana film and was not culturally insensitive to the Polynesian
people because Disney had spent 5 years just getting the characters correct by Polynesian standard,
they also looked far and hard in order to get Polynesian voice actors and songwriters, and finally, the
Disney team took the time out of their lives in order to make the setting of the movie as authentic as
possible.
To commence, the creators of Moana knew ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Article 3 states, "Clements and Musker have been making trips to the Pacific Islands including
Samoa, Tahiti, Mo'orea, and Fiji. Over time they created a coalition of anthropologists, historians,
choreographers, musicians, and linguists called the Oceanic Trust. Together, this group helped to
shape "Moana" and keep the writing and design as authentic as possible." Moreover, this evidence
shows Disney had taken in a lot of accounts to get the setting of Moana very similar to what
Polynesian islands would look like. To add onto, the team took time out of their lives just to go visit
these foreign places, to make sure that their movie was perfect. The team working on the Moana
film not only accomplished their setting, but was able to get the Polynesian setting so well that they
even wowed the Polynesian people working on the movie. In article 1 it states, "They 'are making a
film inspired by my culture, the culture I had lived every day of my life and that is something
incredibly special for the rest of the world to see,' Auli'l says...'Am I still grounded and rooted in the
way I want to be? And I can honestly say yes.'" Moreover, this explains that Disney was able to get
the reaction that they wanted from a Polynesian audience. Furthermore, Disney was justified in the
creation of this movie because it was said by a Polynesian person "Am I still grounded and rooted in
the way I want to be? And I can honestly say I am" and this is relating back to the fact that the
movie was able to "ground" her in her culture. To put into finality, Disney was justified in the
creation of the film, Moana because of use of the time that was taken out of their lives in order to get

Banana Vs Disney
The film "Moana" is a unique movie from Disney, that isn't another one of those "helpless princess
gets saved" movies. Disney's two–hour film is about Moana – a strong Polynesian female
protagonist that does her best to save her island from a demigod named Maui. Disneys film
"Moana" is an improvement for Disney because they had Moana be an independent character, they
took their time on the movie, and they tried their best to depict all the characters in an appropriate
way. The main character in "Moana", Moana, is unlike any other Disney princess. This character is
independent and doesn't get a prince and live happily ever after. According to the text, "Moana's
conflict also does not arise from an arranged marriage or love interest, but from ... Show more

From taking trips to Polynesian islands to hiring the perfect people, they made sure to make the
movie perfect. For example, "The directors took trips to Fiji, Samoa, and Tahiti. These are all
Polynesian Islands"(Newsela,1) This tells us that Clements and Musker took their time on and cares
about "Moana" because they cared enough to take trips to understand Polynesia culture. This also
proves that they cared about their film because they spent a large amount of money just to
understand the Polynesian culture. Additionally, "Musker and Clements found "Auli'l Cravalho, and
it is her first acting job. The teen grew up in a small town and attended an all–Hawaiian school
where she learned the folklore of Maui, one of the islands in Hawaii"(Newsela,1) This shows that
Clements and Musker took their time because they cared enough to look for the perfect voice for the
main character, Moana. This illustrates that Clements and Musker cared and took their time on
"Moana" because they found someone that actually is Polynesian and the right person for the job.
All in all, Disney producers Ron Clements and John Musker cared and took their time to make their
film, "Moana",

What will be the effect of the rapid gyrations in markets that emphasize the difficulties that
accounting practices face in determining true performance costs and that forecasting programs
confront in establishing the economic determinants of corporate planning? In addition to these
challenges, many analytical and strategic evaluation approaches that are used in an attempt to
identify and project how well a company is performing have been overwhelmed by the frequency
and magnitude of these economic groundswells. In today's competitive climate, where the changes
outside a business exceed the productive changes within a business, a company's future viability is
clearly under enormous stress. To maintain business growth and a sustained economy, it is essential
for managers to understand and find solutions for these and other fundamental wide–ranging issues.
The bursting of the high–tech bubble both in many start–up companies and in major segments of
established firms dissipated many entrepreneurial efforts and the large sums of money that were
spent to create organizations that never earned a profit and were often hugely unsuccessful as
business entities. However, this enormous cost to some companies also created beneficial impacts
for many other companies in dealing with these fundamental wide–ranging issues. These beneficial
impacts had

Survival of the Marine Corps
SURVIVAL OF THE MARINE CORPS The Marine Corps historical characteristics after the Civil
War could be based in part on survivability and the need for the Marine Corps to prove its worth to
the United States as a Military Force. The Marine Corps part in the Civil War had been small and
not altogether impressive. Both the Army and the Navy did not regard the Marine Corps as useful.
This paper will in effect touch on the Marine Corps history from after the Civil War to World War I.
It will then converge on a discussion with regards to the fight against the disestablishment of the
Marine Corps. (Simmons/Moskin 1998) The Marine Corps found its mission in the amphibious

Many official German reports had called the attacking Marines "teufel–hunden," meaning Devil–
Dogs. These beasts were the ferocious mountain dogs of Bavarian folklore. (Sturkey 2003) Soon
afterward a U.S. Marine Recruiting Poster depicted a snarling English Bulldog wearing a Marine
Corps helmet. Because of the tenacity and demeanor of the breed, the image took root with both the
Marines and the public. The Marines soon unofficially adopted the English Bulldog as their mascot.
(Sturkey 2003) Although the Marine Corps has established itself as a premier fighting force, there
were still rumbles among officials. The original culprits of the war against the Marines were the
senior officers in the US Army. This started immediately after WW I. During the build up for WW II
Army General George C. Marshall was quoted as saying that his job was to keep the Marine Corps,
small, very small. General Dwight D. Eisenhower was quoted as making similar comments. They
were not the only ones. (wanaki@infi.net Online) Both the Army and Army Air Force were making
plans as early as 1943 to gut the Marines. Marine Lieutenant Colonel Merrill Twining was visiting
his brother, Brigadier General Nathan Twining during that year and he was flabbergasted to learn
that the Army officers there were outwardly proclaiming that they weren 't going to allow the
Marines to command any Corps sized units. Admirals Halsey and Nimitz made short shrift

The California Gold Rush The California Gold Rush was the biggest and the richest of them all, but
it was no different from any of those that followed in providing the majority of its participants with
much rushing and little gold. When forty–niners reminisced through beards grown longer and
whiter, the strikes of the past became richer and the nuggets bigger, but the mournful truth is that
most gold hunters would have done better financially staying at home and been considerably more
comfortable. Let there be no misunderstanding, though the gold across the Sierra Nevada was rich

yellow specks glinting through the running water, and the famous discovery was made. Sutter was
deeply disturbed by the finding of the metal; gold and the pastoral serenity oh his pleasant empire
were incompatible, and he had a foreboding of things to come–––although the results were to be
more devastating than he could possibly have imagined: his cattle butchered, his fields trampled and
untended, his land taken by squatters, until he had not a thing left. At the moment all he could do
was ask the men at the mill to keep the secret for another six weeks, so that his ranch workers would
not desert him to dig gold before spring planting was done. The men at the mill did not leave, but
continued to work as before, panning for gold only on Sunday, until the sawmill was finished in
March. So far, the discovery had produced no gold fever at the scene, nor did it do so farther a field.
The news began trickling into San Francisco within two or three weeks (Sutter's request for six
weeks of secrecy had been ignored), carried by letter and by word of mouth. Both of the town's two

Colors Of The Wind : Polynesian Style
Colors of the Wind: Polynesian Style
When you breathe in Hawaii, you breathe in the spirit. The spirituality of the ancient Hawaiian
religion can be found all over the island, infusing its peoples with their stories and energy. It is as if
the island is alive itself; wherever you go, you can always feel the boost of energy that the Gods are
giving off. Religion is an integral aspect of Hawaiian life, permeating every day activities and
important events such as birth, marriage, and death. Early Hawaiians believe that nature and shaped
events were manifestations and acts of the Gods. Similar to the Ancient Roman religion, there are
many versions to the stories of the gods and goddesses consisting of themes centered on betrayal
and romance (Beckwith, Ch:1). Some spirits deceive, and some are truthful. "Nothing is impossible
to the akua," gods represented by nature's elements (Kamakua). Native Hawaiians abided the ancient
Hawaiian law system, kapu akua, or laws of the gods, and would carry out appropriate ceremonies
and prayers to maintain a good relation with the spirits (Hawaii–guide info). They believe that the
Gods have the power to inflict injury if angered by breaking the kapu. Failure to abide this law
system was also accompanied by dreadful penalties including various forms of execution
(cr.nps.gov). The kapu system was religiously practiced by the early Hawaiians and sculpted
Hawaii's social and political entities until it was overthrown after the death of Kamehameha

O Ahu Tree Snails
O'ahu Tree Snails are also known as Achatinella mustelina is a genus from the family Achatinellidae
(Kay & Hadfield, 1972, p. 320). They are approximately found only within a range of the Waianae
mountains in Oahu. There are many physical attributes of O'ahu tree snails that make this a valuable
species in Hawaiian culture and heritage. For example, O'ahu tree snails are approximately ¾ inches
in length. Because they originate from the islands of O'ahu, these snails live in humid or dry to wet
environments and they also come in a variety of flamboyant colors, unique shapes, and different
patterns. More and more O'ahu Tree Snails have disappeared in the last decades. This has become a
problem for the ecosystem and the other species native ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of these factors can lead these snails into extinction faster. Because they have low reproductive
rates, they are more vulnerable towards predators. Also, the fact that these snails are extremely small
at the time of birth, the time that it takes for them to be reproductively mature takes extensive
nourishment and care using the resources of Hawaii's atmosphere as a result of their delayed growth.
Moreover, because Achatinella mustelina have a low fertility rate, the population is already
decreasing to begin with, so they are not able to reproduce within a certain amount of time to create
a significant population of O'ahu tree snails. In addition to the low maturity rate, habitat destruction
kills the snails' source of food such as plants and other viable food sources, as a result this lowers
their growth rate. However, reallocating the snails from densely populated areas to less densely
populated environments will allow for less competition and an increased population (Kobayashi &
Hadfield, 1996, pg. 352). This solution can ensure that there is an even dispersal of species in order
to decrease the extinction

Marcus Garvey Vs Dubois
The Common Difference's of Elitism Vs. Nationalism
The often fierce ideological exchanges between Marcus Garvey and W.E.B. Du Bois are interesting,
not as much because of the eloquence of their expression, as because of the fact that although
outwardly contradictory, these ideologies were often unified at their foundation. This unity was not
simply in terms of the broad and obvious intent to better the conditions of "black folk", it was in
terms of the very details that defined the trajectory and means of the advancement of blacks in
America and all over the world.
It is clear that the seeming ideological disunity between the Garvey and Du Bois perspectives only
masked the commonalities that underpinned each of their approaches to ... Show more content on

He authored Black Folk Then and Now, to shed light on the often untold history of Africans and the
transatlantic slave trade and, in fact, died and was buried in Ghana where he was living by the
personal invitation of Kwame Nkrumah. Equally impassioned by the cause for black rights in the
international arena, Garvey's work toward this end was reflected in the name and practice of his
"Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities (Imperial) League". Like Du
Bois, Garvey spoke fervently on behalf of the interests of blacks both in the United States and
internationally. It was the express mission of this organization to bring together the people of what
Garvey called "the African race". He too participated in the Pan–African Congresses and a
cornerstone of his movement was "pride in the race's African heritage." This concept of the
interconnectedness of blacks across the globe, with African heritage as their anchor, was a unifying
aspect of Du Bois' and Garvey' ideologies. Here again, however, this fundamentally similar belief
was overshadowed by more superficial ideological differences. Although loyal to Africa, Du Bois
saw himself and blacks born in the United States as Americans, a contrast to Garvey who rejected
this concept, defining his identity and allegiance first and foremost in terms of his blackness. Du
Bois, on the one hand, regarded himself and blacks born in the United

Midwest Compare And Contrast
I am going to compare and contrast the two region midwest and the west region. In a article it stated
that the Midwestern United States or Midwest refers to the north–central states of the United States
of America, specifically Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio,
Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. The West, region, western U.S., mostly west
of the Great Plains and including, by federal–government definition, Alaska, Arizona, California,

west region is hotter than the midwest region.

The Midwest remains a melting pot of Protestantism and Calvinism, mistrustful of authority and
power. While in the west there culture was like a region of cowboys, Indians, covered wagons,
outlaws, prospectors, and a whole society operating just outside the law. as with other sections of the
United States, regional boundaries are somewhat imprecise. The West of the cowboy and the cattle
drive covered many non–Western states, including Kansas and Nebraska. Much of the West's
fiercest Indian fighting took place in the Dakotas, both of which are now considered to be part of the
Middle West. Alaska and Hawaii, geographically the most western of all the states, are really no part
of the popularly conceived West at all.
In conclusion the midwest and the west region are not very much alike. But they do have some
similarities that i explained in my essay. But i believe the midwest is more put together than the west

destruction behind. The Australian government even has a policy in place for dealing with these

Analysis Of The Book ' Marchers Of The Night '
Whats In The Night The retelling of spooky ghost stories has been a favorite activity in many
cultures, wether it be around a campfire of written in various articles and book. Perhaps one of the
most mysterious supernatural activities can be reported on the islands of Hawaii. Known as the
Night Marchers, these spirits have been known to roam the land, revisiting ancient war sites and
significant historical landmarks. In the book, "Marchers of the Night" by Helen P. Hoyt, a renowned
Hawaiian author, he describes his first experience with the Huaka'ipo, or the Night Marchers. "In all
the hundred years of my life I have seen the Marchers of the Night, the Huaka'ipo, only twice..."
(Hoyt 1969). He then continues to explain how "on the night of the sixth of August, 1918, a night
sacred to Ku, ancient god of all warriors" the Night Marchers, which their torches and pounding
drums came to his house in the town of Waianae. Based on the many stories about the Night
Marchers and the other cultures around the world who have similar spirits, I will attempt to
demonstrate that these ghosts are more fact than fiction. Hawaii has a rich background of folklores
and mythology and it's link to the past in ever present. Stories of the Night Marchers were first
written about in the late 1900's but they were orally passed down long before that. Their native name
is Huaka'ipo, but was translated to english as the Night Marchers. The term derives from the two

Recently, three articles were received discussing whether or not the movie, "Moana", was
stereotypical of Polynesian people. While some believe that Maui was characterized as silly, others
foresee him as heavily built. Therefore, disney was justified in creating the "Moana" film and was
not culturally insensitive to the Polynesian people because it took an interminable amount of
research to learn about the culture,Polynesians were chosen to portray a character, and the
filmmakers were intricate with their work.
As a matter of a fact, it took Disney 5 years to complete the production of "Moana"! For a movie to
proceed to its final "point", a filmmaker must have an image of what has to be and not be
familiarized. Source three unveiled, "Clements ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When an actor is the voice of a character in a movie, filmmakers have to determine whether or not
he or she is professional enough to become part of the film. Source three states, "The cast of 'Moana'
also reflects the extra efforts of Disney to include actors from within the Polynesian cultural sphere."
Not only was Disney exact with the way the movie was designed to outstretch immaculateness, but
to introduce a new form of art: they chose actors who were native Polynesians, like Auli'l Cravalho,
who had grown up with genuine customs. Sometimes a movie is felt like home whenever the
characters' voice and its tone of speaking projects warmth. Additionally, the star of the movie gave
her own opinion, expressing her thoughts on Moana, the princess. Source one provides the
following facts: Cravalho "...grew up in a small town and attended an all–Hawaiian school where
she learned the folklore of Maui, which is one of the islands of Hawaii." She also said, "'As I
continue in this and as I potentially might leave my home, what does that make me? Does that still
keep me Polynesian? Am I still grounded and rooted in the way that I want to be? And I can
honestly say yes.'" In other words, her education status in Hawaii developed a princess who did
what she wanted to do her way (source three provides details explaining how women were
independent). This was a tribute to the Polynesians who grew up with an independent mindset; this
can be viewed as the icing to the cake in a movie because it is almost like a surprise that gradually
reveals itself, along with the characters' personalities. To conclude, a movie needs more than just an

Lou Ku Mana Reflection Questions
Halau Ku Mana Reflection Questions
1. What did you notice that was unique or surprising about this school?
There were numerous unique and surprising aspects of Hālau Kū Māna. One of the earliest things I
noticed was how friendly the students and staff are. I was greeted often by students, and the staff
were very welcoming. I saw that everyone seemed close, like a family. The school has a very warm
atmosphere.
Another thing I observed was that the school is student–directed. Students monitored and helped
each other. Further, when they faced a problem, they were encouraged to fix it on their own. One
student, on her own volition, took my group on a tour around the garden, identifying different plants
and telling us about them.

In my family, literacy is highly regarded, so my mother would take me to the library frequently and
we would often read together. Many of the books that we read originated from Japan – along with a
few other countries. In addition, she tried to teach me Japanese and French (along with the Standard
English lessons). French was dropped rather early, but I continued taking Japanese throughout the
rest of my school years. When I transferred to public school, my interests did not change. I
continued to read whenever I had free time and many of those books were mythology and folklore.
Once I graduate and earn my degree, I would like to try traveling to other countries to teach. My
mother taught English to ELL for some time, so I would say culture played a large role in my

The Polynesian Culture In The Movie Moana
There has a lot of controversy over the Polynesian cultural based movie, Moana. Some Americans
think they were justified in making the movie while others do not. Disney is actually justified in
making the movie Moana because it does not offend the Polynesian culture, but instead compliments
it,they put a lot of work into the movie to make it as authentic as possible, and they involved
Polynesian people in the project.
Although the movie Moana has been seen as an insult in Polynesian culture, it is actually a
compliment. It complements them because of how they designed Maui. Maui size represents
strength. This is essentially seen in Article two when a Samoan artist states in the article 2 "Thick
build represents power and strength," he wrote ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The movie also seems to be extremely authentic to the real movie. The actor who played the voice
of Moana, Auli'i Cravalho, stated this herself when she stated in Article 1 " Does that still keep me
Polynesian? Am I still grounded and rooted in the way that I want to be? And I can honestly say
yes," Auli'i says." The speech Cravalho did depicts her as an honest person that cares about keeping
her culture, so the arduous work that Disney put on making the movie is furtherly seen because of
how it is viewed by Carvalho. The movie is also identical to the actual culture since its technically
called a Polynesian movie by Carvalho even though it was done by Americans. Miranda, a musician,
worked on making the movie as good as possible. As shown as when he stated in article 1 "I was 16
years old and living on 200th Street in Manhattan and thinking the distance between where I am and
where I want to be seems impossibly large, so I got myself into that mindset to write her songs."
Miranda deeply cared about making the movie since he tried to relate to Moana. The directors of the
movie must care about depicting it right since they hired a hard worker. Disney is a company that
tries to relate to cultures and tries to bring out the best of them as good as

History Of The Old West
It would be almost impossible to write the history of the Old West without giving credit to the
Hispanic people who influenced its customs, culture, towns, and lives. The contributions of
Hispanics to the evolution and success of America are woven into almost every portion of the nation
's history. To visualize America untouched by Latinos is to imagine a country without much of its
folklore and many of its achievements. The United States has a rich history that goes back over 200
years. Hispanics have always played vital roles in building this country and making it a better place.
From the Revolutionary War that freed the United States from England to the Persian Gulf War,
Latinos have proudly served this country in the Armed Forces. And throughout U.S. history, Latinos
have prominently participated in building the West; in medicine and science; in entertainment,
business, education, civil rights, and politics; and in the great American pastime of baseball. "In
Hispanic history, as in every variety of Western history, one never has the luxury of taking point of
view for granted. Hispanics –– like Indians, Anglos, and every other group –– could be victims as
well as victimizers, and the meanings of the past could be seen, at times, to be riding a seesaw" (
Limerick, 257). When the colonies on the East Coast of what became the United States rebelled
against England, Hispanics played a pivotal role. As Governor of the Louisiana Territory, General

Marijuana Should Be Banned Marijuana
Throughout the history of agriculture, the marijuana plant, also known as cannabis or hemp has been
extensively used as a source of medicine, fiber, and intoxicant. In the ancient folklore and writings
of China and India, the earliest known descriptions of cannabis are evident. According to historians,
marijuana was mostly used a ritual intoxicant and later on, it found significance in folk medicine.
The practice of smoking of marijuana has only appeared recently. There has been a lot of literature
on the medicinal properties of marijuana which physicians in ancient China and India discovered in
their practice. However, it was only in 1860 that physicians in America reported the success of
marijuana in treating pain, gonorrhea, chronic cough, and several other conditions. This report
triggered demand for marijuana–based medications and various pharmaceutical companies
embarked on the production of reliable and potent drugs from cannabis plant (Marijuana As
Medicine?: The Science Beyond the Controversy, 2000).
The widespread use of marijuana continued to the 1960s and the U.S government had to take
measures to prevent abuse. This was the main purpose of the 1970 Controlled Substances Act. This
Act classified drugs with the likelihood of being abused into three criteria: the possibility of the drug
being abused, usefulness as a medicine, and the psychological and physical consequences of its
abuse. Marijuana fell under Schedule I which is the most restrictive. However, this

Steven Hawking's lecture in 1999 lead with the question "Does God Play Dice?" Hawking's lecture
focused on whether or not we were able to predict the future or whether it is arbitrary and random.
When deciding the factor does God Play Dice it boils down to God and what it is we believe in.
There are stories in the Bible that talk about God as the creator of the universe and along with that
everything in it. Anyone who believes in God and accepts him as such acknowledges that he has a
hand in the creating nature. The existence of the universe had to come about at some point in time or
we wouldn't be here today, right? When looking at different religious groups and looking briefly at
their beliefs, one that stood out to me was Deism. According to their website, Deists believe that
only one God exists. They believe while we have one God, he does not intervene in the world, or
interfere with human life and the laws of the universe. (Basics of philosophy). If we follow the
beliefs that are laid out in Deism, we are under the belief that God watches over us but allows us to
lead our own existence.
Being in our own existence having established that we do believe in god we need to look into other
smaller pictures that make up the big picture. Having determined our belief in God we can turn our
attention to the predictability of the future or whether it's arbitrary and random or more planned and
predictable.
If we follow the path of Deism and truly believe that while god is the

At this time of year fallen leaves shroud the carefully planned suburbs of Milton Keynes. Mist drifts
in from the fields. The posh car firms – Mercedes, Volkswagen, Audi – whose UK head offices ring
the Buckinghamshire town are gearing down for the winter. But last week the end–of–year gloom

The health and energy drinks market is the fastest–growing sector of the burgeoning soft drinks
market, doubling in size every year to reach £1.5bn last year. Red Bull is the market leader and its
revenues rose 10 per cent to £1bn last year, on sales of 1.5bn cans. Vodka and Red Bull is still the
most popular alcoholic drink for under–20s.
The pick–me–up 's 'anti–brand brand ' status explains its rapid success, argues Nirmalya Kumar,
senior analyst at the London Business School. 'Red Bull has never done anything in a conventional
way. It has not used normal advertising, nor marketing. When it sponsors events or sports, it tends to
go for minority ones. '
While the no–logo generation is happy, the premium price on cans – more than £1, compared with
50p for Coke or Pepsi – has kept the money flowing in to the firm 's Alpine HQ. But what is an
irreverent Austrian doing in one of Britain 's newest towns and why is he spending a fortune buying
his way into a big–brand sport in crisis?
Frustrated by the dominance of business interests over sport and the continued dominance of Ferrari,
some of the big F1 teams are threatening to leave the F1 circus and form a new competition. Some
observers say Red Bull is keeping pace with its core market as it gets older. 'Formula One has the
kind of dangerous, edgy, masculine image that suits Red Bull, ' says Richard Hall, chairman of the
drinks consultancy Zenith International. 'The early adopters who made it what

How Princess Culture Is All Round Us
Princess culture is all round us, whether we realize it or not. Princess culture incorporates many
downfalls to women. We have all grown up with the pressures of this culture. Women are viewed as
lower than the man, having to struggle in a male–dominated society. Stereotypes, racial issues and
marginality are just a few predicaments that women had been portrayed as, in the world of the
princess culture. Many Cinderella stories have been told in many different cultures that come from
all around the globe. Rob Baum correctly stated, "Folktales had their origins in oral accounts, stories
told by people before the advent of writing, or before someone determined them worthy of literary
transcription" Socrates). People only took up the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another stereotype taught from Disney is that men are saviors. In Rapunzel, she is saved from the
tower by a man. In the Lion King, Simba returns to his pride to save, what is left of his father's
pride, which is shown to be mostly females, A scene in this move, Nala tells Simba that he is "their
only hope" signifying that a man can only save females. Hercules stereotypes that men must be hot,
buff and white. During the movies, Snow White and Cinderella, the women are forced to do chores
such as cooking cleaning. When there is a woman in charge, back to The Little Mermaid, the sea
witch Ursula, had just about as much power as Kind Triton, but she was portrayed as evil. Jessica
Rose pointed out, "The perception of women are either weak victims in a male–dominated society
or evil and corrupt when in a position of equal or higher status" (Prezie).
The story of Cinderella has many different versions, from all dissimilar cultures. As we know our
"Cinderella," the story contains many females. The stepmother, stepsistes, the fairygod mother, and
herself. Cinderella only gets her happily ever after due to her natural beuty and being able to stomp
over the ones who tried to conceal her. This demonstrates that females compete with each other to
have the marital status they want. Cinderella wins, because she pretends to be something she is truly
not. In an article Laure Liddle wrote, she theorizes, "It is vital that Cinderella must impress her

The Cultural Areas Of The Pacific Ocean
Although many people have no idea that Polynesia really means "region of many islands", I happen
to know that this region is made up of three major cultural areas in the southwest Pacific Ocean.
These include Polynesia, and Polynesia's neighboring cultures, Melanesia and Micronesia. The
Polynesian culture is so wide spread, so practices, customs, norms, etc. all fluctuate by island. The
entire culture can be examined through the seven elements of culture. To begin, these three cultures
are extremely diverse, but very similar. I decided to examine the Polynesian Culture in particular
because it has the highest popularity within the Pacific Islands. The Polynesian culture is spread
across 15 main locations, with thousands of islands and several countries in between. Each island
included in the Polynesian culture is located within the "Polynesian Triangle". The Polynesian
Triangle is made up of three main island groups: Easter Island or "Rapa Nui", the Hawaiian Islands,
and New Zealand or "Aotearoa" islands. Other notable islands within the triangle include the
Tokelau Islands, the Marquesas Islands, the Tuvalu Islands, the Samoan Islands, the Cook Islands,
the Fiji Islands, the Niue Islands, the Tuamotu Islands, the Tahiti Islands, and the Pitcairn Islands.
The Polynesian Culture dates back 2,000 to 3,000 years ago. Major Polynesian cultures include New

SURVIVAL OF THE MARINE CORPS
The Marine Corps historical characteristics after the Civil War could be based in part on
survivability and the need for the Marine Corps to prove its worth to the United States as a Military
Force. The Marine Corps part in the Civil War had been small and not altogether impressive. Both
the Army and the Navy did not regard the Marine Corps as useful. This paper will in effect touch on

Polynesians In The Film Moana

  • 1. Polynesians In The Film Moana Disney was justified in making the film "Moana" and was not culturally insensitive to the Polynesian people because, Disney has worked hard for 5 years researching Polynesians and their culture; they have hired Polynesian actors and songwriters; and Disney have made sure to truly depict the terrain of the Polynesians. Disney has sent many people to research the Polynesian islands, to truly understand the Polynesian culture. In article 3 it states, "For the past five years, Clements and Musker have been making trips to the Pacific Islands including Samoa, Tahiti, Mo'orea, and Fiji." This shows the directors took great care to study the Polynesian people, their homes and their culture. It also shows that Disney did this to make sure they weren't being insensitive or stereotyping Polynesian people. Another piece of evidence from article 1 is, "Every word is chosen carefully, every color discussed and every motion debated" This shows that they paid attention to detail. And that Disney spent much time to make sure everything ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the first article they say, "Miranda worked with Hawaiian songwriter and musician Opetaia Foa'i, so the music would sound authentic." This once again shows the dedication to making the film authentic. In addition the directors understood that music is a big part of the Polynesians culture and i'm sure the Polynesians appreciated having authentic music. A further quote from article 1 is, "They found Auli'l Cravalho, and it is her first acting job. The teen grew up in a small town and attended an all–Hawaiian school where she learned the folklore of Maui, which is one of the islands of Hawaii." A choice like this shows that they wanted to make the voice of Moana authentic with everything else. Moana is authentic because they hired an authentic Polynesian. Auli'l Cravalho was also a good choice because she grew up and is familiar with Maui and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Trobriand Islanders-Malinowski and Weiner One Banana Leaf Bundles and Skirts: A Pacific Penelope's Web? Margaret Jolly In her review of the significance of cloth in Pacific polities, Annette Weiner has evoked the persona of Penelope, "weaving by day, and unweaving the same fabric by night, in order to halt time" (1986, 108).[1] This image of a Pacific Penelope halting time was inspired by Weiner's reanalysis of the Trobriand islands. In her monograph (1976), in several subsequent papers (1980, 1982a, 1983a, 1986) and in her shorter text (1988) she conclusively demonstrated that Malinowski and a host of other male observers had failed to see women's central place in Trobriand exchange: that in fixating so totally on men's exchanges of yams in urigubu and of shell valuables in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not far from this gravesite, another stone marks the grave of Mitakata, successor to Touluwa and Powell's informant in 1950. Mitakata died in 1961, and Vanoi became his heir. (1976, xix) The rhetorical device that Weiner uses in Women of Value, Men of Renown, namely, heading each section with a quotation from Malinowski, does, as she suggests, highlight their historical relation, but, again, ultimately it stresses the consistency of their ethnographic questions and the constancy of Tro– [pic] ― 40 ― briand culture despite the gap in time and interpretation. The same point is made explicitly in a later essay. What initially astounded me upon my arrival in Kiriwina was the striking similarity between a Kiriwina village in 1971 and Malinowski's descriptions and photographs of the same village in 1922. Although superficially some things had changed (an airstrip, tourists, some Western clothing) everything else was as if nothing was changed. (Weiner 1980, 272) The introductory notes to this later essay situate the Massim in Melanesian colonial history– cataloging the successive influences of whalers, pearlers and bêche–de–mer traders, gold prospectors, and labor recruiters from the 1850s; Christian missions from 1894; and the controls of government from the establishment of a British colonial administration post at Losuia in 1906 to the Massim's incorporation within the ... • 9. Was Disney Justified In The Film Moana Lately, three articles were reviewed for the film, Moana, depicting whether Disney was being stereotypical and insensitive to the Polynesian culture. Many people think that Disney was wrong in the depiction of the character's appearances, especially relating to the demigod character, Maui. Disney was justified in creating the Moana film and was not culturally insensitive to the Polynesian people because Disney had spent 5 years just getting the characters correct by Polynesian standard, they also looked far and hard in order to get Polynesian voice actors and songwriters, and finally, the Disney team took the time out of their lives in order to make the setting of the movie as authentic as possible. To commence, the creators of Moana knew ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Article 3 states, "Clements and Musker have been making trips to the Pacific Islands including Samoa, Tahiti, Mo'orea, and Fiji. Over time they created a coalition of anthropologists, historians, choreographers, musicians, and linguists called the Oceanic Trust. Together, this group helped to shape "Moana" and keep the writing and design as authentic as possible." Moreover, this evidence shows Disney had taken in a lot of accounts to get the setting of Moana very similar to what Polynesian islands would look like. To add onto, the team took time out of their lives just to go visit these foreign places, to make sure that their movie was perfect. The team working on the Moana film not only accomplished their setting, but was able to get the Polynesian setting so well that they even wowed the Polynesian people working on the movie. In article 1 it states, "They 'are making a film inspired by my culture, the culture I had lived every day of my life and that is something incredibly special for the rest of the world to see,' Auli'l says...'Am I still grounded and rooted in the way I want to be? And I can honestly say yes.'" Moreover, this explains that Disney was able to get the reaction that they wanted from a Polynesian audience. Furthermore, Disney was justified in the creation of this movie because it was said by a Polynesian person "Am I still grounded and rooted in the way I want to be? And I can honestly say I am" and this is relating back to the fact that the movie was able to "ground" her in her culture. To put into finality, Disney was justified in the creation of the film, Moana because of use of the time that was taken out of their lives in order to get this movie ... • 13. Banana Vs Disney The film "Moana" is a unique movie from Disney, that isn't another one of those "helpless princess gets saved" movies. Disney's two–hour film is about Moana – a strong Polynesian female protagonist that does her best to save her island from a demigod named Maui. Disneys film "Moana" is an improvement for Disney because they had Moana be an independent character, they took their time on the movie, and they tried their best to depict all the characters in an appropriate way. The main character in "Moana", Moana, is unlike any other Disney princess. This character is independent and doesn't get a prince and live happily ever after. According to the text, "Moana's conflict also does not arise from an arranged marriage or love interest, but from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From taking trips to Polynesian islands to hiring the perfect people, they made sure to make the movie perfect. For example, "The directors took trips to Fiji, Samoa, and Tahiti. These are all Polynesian Islands"(Newsela,1) This tells us that Clements and Musker took their time on and cares about "Moana" because they cared enough to take trips to understand Polynesia culture. This also proves that they cared about their film because they spent a large amount of money just to understand the Polynesian culture. Additionally, "Musker and Clements found "Auli'l Cravalho, and it is her first acting job. The teen grew up in a small town and attended an all–Hawaiian school where she learned the folklore of Maui, one of the islands in Hawaii"(Newsela,1) This shows that Clements and Musker took their time because they cared enough to look for the perfect voice for the main character, Moana. This illustrates that Clements and Musker cared and took their time on "Moana" because they found someone that actually is Polynesian and the right person for the job. All in all, Disney producers Ron Clements and John Musker cared and took their time to make their film, "Moana", ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What will be the effect of the rapid gyrations in markets that emphasize the difficulties that accounting practices face in determining true performance costs and that forecasting programs confront in establishing the economic determinants of corporate planning? In addition to these challenges, many analytical and strategic evaluation approaches that are used in an attempt to identify and project how well a company is performing have been overwhelmed by the frequency and magnitude of these economic groundswells. In today's competitive climate, where the changes outside a business exceed the productive changes within a business, a company's future viability is clearly under enormous stress. To maintain business growth and a sustained economy, it is essential for managers to understand and find solutions for these and other fundamental wide–ranging issues. The bursting of the high–tech bubble both in many start–up companies and in major segments of

Survival of the Marine Corps SURVIVAL OF THE MARINE CORPS The Marine Corps historical characteristics after the Civil War could be based in part on survivability and the need for the Marine Corps to prove its worth to the United States as a Military Force. The Marine Corps part in the Civil War had been small and not altogether impressive. Both the Army and the Navy did not regard the Marine Corps as useful. This paper will in effect touch on the Marine Corps history from after the Civil War to World War I. It will then converge on a discussion with regards to the fight against the disestablishment of the Marine Corps. (Simmons/Moskin 1998) The Marine Corps found its mission in the amphibious landings of several countries "to protect American lives and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many official German reports had called the attacking Marines "teufel–hunden," meaning Devil– Dogs. These beasts were the ferocious mountain dogs of Bavarian folklore. (Sturkey 2003) Soon afterward a U.S. Marine Recruiting Poster depicted a snarling English Bulldog wearing a Marine Corps helmet. Because of the tenacity and demeanor of the breed, the image took root with both the Marines and the public. The Marines soon unofficially adopted the English Bulldog as their mascot. (Sturkey 2003) Although the Marine Corps has established itself as a premier fighting force, there were still rumbles among officials. The original culprits of the war against the Marines were the senior officers in the US Army. This started immediately after WW I. During the build up for WW II Army General George C. Marshall was quoted as saying that his job was to keep the Marine Corps, small, very small. General Dwight D. Eisenhower was quoted as making similar comments. They were not the only ones. (wanaki@infi.net Online) Both the Army and Army Air Force were making plans as early as 1943 to gut the Marines. Marine Lieutenant Colonel Merrill Twining was visiting his brother, Brigadier General Nathan Twining during that year and he was flabbergasted to learn that the Army officers there were outwardly proclaiming that they weren 't going to allow the Marines to command any Corps sized units. The California Gold Rush Essay The California Gold Rush The California Gold Rush was the biggest and the richest of them all, but it was no different from any of those that followed in providing the majority of its participants with much rushing and little gold. When forty–niners reminisced through beards grown longer and whiter, the strikes of the past became richer and the nuggets bigger, but the mournful truth is that most gold hunters would have done better financially staying at home and been considerably more comfortable. Let there be no misunderstanding, though the gold across the Sierra Nevada was rich beyond belief, and many miners made strikes that deserve the adjective "fabulous." He let it run all night to wash the race clean of debris; the next morning, January 24, 1848, he saw yellow specks glinting through the running water, and the famous discovery was made. Sutter was deeply disturbed by the finding of the metal; gold and the pastoral serenity oh his pleasant empire were incompatible, and he had a foreboding of things to come–––although the results were to be more devastating than he could possibly have imagined: his cattle butchered, his fields trampled and untended, his land taken by squatters, until he had not a thing left. At the moment all he could do was ask the men at the mill to keep the secret for another six weeks, so that his ranch workers would not desert him to dig gold before spring planting was done. The men at the mill did not leave, but continued to work as before, panning for gold only on Sunday, until the sawmill was finished in March. So far, the discovery had produced no gold fever at the scene, nor did it do so farther a field. The news began trickling into San Francisco within two or three weeks (Sutter's request for six weeks of secrecy had been ignored), carried by letter and by word of mouth. Both of the town's two newspapers duly reported the discovery, but no one became excited. The people of San Francisco–––there were 850 or 900 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Colors Of The Wind : Polynesian Style Colors of the Wind: Polynesian Style When you breathe in Hawaii, you breathe in the spirit. The spirituality of the ancient Hawaiian religion can be found all over the island, infusing its peoples with their stories and energy. It is as if the island is alive itself; wherever you go, you can always feel the boost of energy that the Gods are giving off. Religion is an integral aspect of Hawaiian life, permeating every day activities and important events such as birth, marriage, and death. Early Hawaiians believe that nature and shaped events were manifestations and acts of the Gods. Similar to the Ancient Roman religion, there are many versions to the stories of the gods and goddesses consisting of themes centered on betrayal and romance (Beckwith, Ch:1). Some spirits deceive, and some are truthful. "Nothing is impossible to the akua," gods represented by nature's elements (Kamakua). Native Hawaiians abided the ancient Hawaiian law system, kapu akua, or laws of the gods, and would carry out appropriate ceremonies and prayers to maintain a good relation with the spirits (Hawaii–guide info). They believe that the Gods have the power to inflict injury if angered by breaking the kapu. Failure to abide this law system was also accompanied by dreadful penalties including various forms of execution (cr.nps.gov). The kapu system was religiously practiced by the early Hawaiians and sculpted Hawaii's social and political entities until it was overthrown after the death of Kamehameha ... • 40. O Ahu Tree Snails O'ahu Tree Snails are also known as Achatinella mustelina is a genus from the family Achatinellidae (Kay & Hadfield, 1972, p. 320). They are approximately found only within a range of the Waianae mountains in Oahu. There are many physical attributes of O'ahu tree snails that make this a valuable species in Hawaiian culture and heritage. For example, O'ahu tree snails are approximately ¾ inches in length. Because they originate from the islands of O'ahu, these snails live in humid or dry to wet environments and they also come in a variety of flamboyant colors, unique shapes, and different patterns. More and more O'ahu Tree Snails have disappeared in the last decades. This has become a problem for the ecosystem and the other species native ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All of these factors can lead these snails into extinction faster. Because they have low reproductive rates, they are more vulnerable towards predators. Also, the fact that these snails are extremely small at the time of birth, the time that it takes for them to be reproductively mature takes extensive nourishment and care using the resources of Hawaii's atmosphere as a result of their delayed growth. Moreover, because Achatinella mustelina have a low fertility rate, the population is already decreasing to begin with, so they are not able to reproduce within a certain amount of time to create a significant population of O'ahu tree snails. In addition to the low maturity rate, habitat destruction kills the snails' source of food such as plants and other viable food sources, as a result this lowers their growth rate. However, reallocating the snails from densely populated areas to less densely populated environments will allow for less competition and an increased population (Kobayashi & Hadfield, 1996, pg. 352). This solution can ensure that there is an even dispersal of species in order to decrease the extinction ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Marcus Garvey Vs Dubois The Common Difference's of Elitism Vs. Nationalism The often fierce ideological exchanges between Marcus Garvey and W.E.B. Du Bois are interesting, not as much because of the eloquence of their expression, as because of the fact that although outwardly contradictory, these ideologies were often unified at their foundation. This unity was not simply in terms of the broad and obvious intent to better the conditions of "black folk", it was in terms of the very details that defined the trajectory and means of the advancement of blacks in America and all over the world. It is clear that the seeming ideological disunity between the Garvey and Du Bois perspectives only masked the commonalities that underpinned each of their approaches to ... He authored Black Folk Then and Now, to shed light on the often untold history of Africans and the transatlantic slave trade and, in fact, died and was buried in Ghana where he was living by the personal invitation of Kwame Nkrumah. Equally impassioned by the cause for black rights in the international arena, Garvey's work toward this end was reflected in the name and practice of his "Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities (Imperial) League". Like Du Bois, Garvey spoke fervently on behalf of the interests of blacks both in the United States and internationally. It was the express mission of this organization to bring together the people of what Garvey called "the African race". He too participated in the Pan–African Congresses and a cornerstone of his movement was "pride in the race's African heritage." This concept of the interconnectedness of blacks across the globe, with African heritage as their anchor, was a unifying aspect of Du Bois' and Garvey' ideologies. Here again, however, this fundamentally similar belief was overshadowed by more superficial ideological differences. Although loyal to Africa, Du Bois saw himself and blacks born in the United States as Americans, a contrast to Garvey who rejected this concept, defining his identity and allegiance first and foremost in terms of his blackness. The West, region, western U.S., mostly west of the Great Plains and including, by federal–government definition, Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. The West of the cowboy and the cattle drive covered many non–Western states, including Kansas and Nebraska. How about the Chinese Folklore that says the toad is a sign of prosperity and financial blessings? I'm not sure if the people of Australia would see these creatures as a blessing. Analysis Of The Book ' Marchers Of The Night ' Whats In The Night The retelling of spooky ghost stories has been a favorite activity in many cultures, wether it be around a campfire of written in various articles and book. Perhaps one of the most mysterious supernatural activities can be reported on the islands of Hawaii. Known as the Night Marchers, these spirits have been known to roam the land, revisiting ancient war sites and significant historical landmarks. In the book, "Marchers of the Night" by Helen P. Hoyt, a renowned Hawaiian author, he describes his first experience with the Huaka'ipo, or the Night Marchers. "In all the hundred years of my life I have seen the Marchers of the Night, the Huaka'ipo, only twice..." (Hoyt 1969). He then continues to explain how "on the night of the sixth of August, 1918, a night sacred to Ku, ancient god of all warriors" the Night Marchers, which their torches and pounding drums came to his house in the town of Waianae. Based on the many stories about the Night Marchers and the other cultures around the world who have similar spirits, I will attempt to demonstrate that these ghosts are more fact than fiction. Hawaii has a rich background of folklores and mythology and it's link to the past in ever present. Stories of the Night Marchers were first written about in the late 1900's but they were orally passed down long before that. While some believe that Maui was characterized as silly, others foresee him as heavily built. Therefore, disney was justified in creating the "Moana" film and was not culturally insensitive to the Polynesian people because it took an interminable amount of research to learn about the culture,Polynesians were chosen to portray a character, and the filmmakers were intricate with their work. When an actor is the voice of a character in a movie, filmmakers have to determine whether or not he or she is professional enough to become part of the film. Source three states, "The cast of 'Moana' also reflects the extra efforts of Disney to include actors from within the Polynesian cultural sphere." Not only was Disney exact with the way the movie was designed to outstretch immaculateness, but to introduce a new form of art: they chose actors who were native Polynesians, like Auli'l Cravalho, who had grown up with genuine customs. Sometimes a movie is felt like home whenever the characters' voice and its tone of speaking projects warmth. Additionally, the star of the movie gave her own opinion, expressing her thoughts on Moana, the princess. Source one provides the following facts: Cravalho "...grew up in a small town and attended an all–Hawaiian school where she learned the folklore of Maui, which is one of the islands of Hawaii." She also said, "'As I continue in this and as I potentially might leave my home, what does that make me? Does that still keep me Polynesian? Am I still grounded and rooted in the way that I want to be? And I can honestly say yes.'" In other words, her education status in Hawaii developed a princess who did what she wanted to do her way (source three provides details explaining how women were independent). This was a tribute to the Polynesians who grew up with an independent mindset; this can be viewed as the icing to the cake in a movie because it is almost like a surprise that gradually reveals itself, along with the characters' personalities. Some Americans think they were justified in making the movie while others do not. Disney is actually justified in making the movie Moana because it does not offend the Polynesian culture, but instead compliments it,they put a lot of work into the movie to make it as authentic as possible, and they involved Polynesian people in the project. Although the movie Moana has been seen as an insult in Polynesian culture, it is actually a compliment. It complements them because of how they designed Maui. Maui size represents strength. The speech Cravalho did depicts her as an honest person that cares about keeping her culture, so the arduous work that Disney put on making the movie is furtherly seen because of how it is viewed by Carvalho. To visualize America untouched by Latinos is to imagine a country without much of its folklore and many of its achievements. The United States has a rich history that goes back over 200 years. Marijuana Should Be Banned Marijuana Throughout the history of agriculture, the marijuana plant, also known as cannabis or hemp has been extensively used as a source of medicine, fiber, and intoxicant. In the ancient folklore and writings of China and India, the earliest known descriptions of cannabis are evident. According to historians, marijuana was mostly used a ritual intoxicant and later on, it found significance in folk medicine. The practice of smoking of marijuana has only appeared recently. There has been a lot of literature on the medicinal properties of marijuana which physicians in ancient China and India discovered in their practice. However, it was only in 1860 that physicians in America reported the success of marijuana in treating pain, gonorrhea, chronic cough, and several other conditions. This report triggered demand for marijuana–based medications and various pharmaceutical companies embarked on the production of reliable and potent drugs from cannabis plant (Marijuana As Medicine?: The Science Beyond the Controversy, 2000). The widespread use of marijuana continued to the 1960s and the U.S government had to take measures to prevent abuse. This was the main purpose of the 1970 Controlled Substances Act. Hawking's lecture focused on whether or not we were able to predict the future or whether it is arbitrary and random. When deciding the factor does God Play Dice it boils down to God and what it is we believe in. There are stories in the Bible that talk about God as the creator of the universe and along with that everything in it. Anyone who believes in God and accepts him as such acknowledges that he has a hand in the creating nature. The existence of the universe had to come about at some point in time or we wouldn't be here today, right? When looking at different religious groups and looking briefly at their beliefs, one that stood out to me was Deism. According to their website, Deists believe that only one God exists. They believe while we have one God, he does not intervene in the world, or interfere with human life and the laws of the universe. (Basics of philosophy). If we follow the beliefs that are laid out in Deism, we are under the belief that God watches over us but allows us to lead our own existence. Being in our own existence having established that we do believe in god we need to look into other smaller pictures that make up the big picture. The pick–me–up 's 'anti–brand brand ' status explains its rapid success, argues Nirmalya Kumar, senior analyst at the London Business School. 'Red Bull has never done anything in a conventional way. It has not used normal advertising, nor marketing. When it sponsors events or sports, it tends to go for minority ones. ' While the no–logo generation is happy, the premium price on cans – more than £1, compared with 50p for Coke or Pepsi – has kept the money flowing in to the firm 's Alpine HQ. But what is an irreverent Austrian doing in one of Britain 's newest towns and why is he spending a fortune buying his way into a big–brand sport in crisis? Frustrated by the dominance of business interests over sport and the continued dominance of Ferrari, some of the big F1 teams are threatening to leave the F1 circus and form a new competition. Some observers say Red Bull is keeping pace with its core market as it gets older. 'Formula One has the

  • 119. How Princess Culture Is All Round Us Princess culture is all round us, whether we realize it or not. Princess culture incorporates many downfalls to women. We have all grown up with the pressures of this culture. Women are viewed as lower than the man, having to struggle in a male–dominated society. Stereotypes, racial issues and marginality are just a few predicaments that women had been portrayed as, in the world of the princess culture. Many Cinderella stories have been told in many different cultures that come from all around the globe. Rob Baum correctly stated, "Folktales had their origins in oral accounts, stories told by people before the advent of writing, or before someone determined them worthy of literary transcription" Socrates). People only took up the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another stereotype taught from Disney is that men are saviors. In Rapunzel, she is saved from the tower by a man. In the Lion King, Simba returns to his pride to save, what is left of his father's pride, which is shown to be mostly females, A scene in this move, Nala tells Simba that he is "their only hope" signifying that a man can only save females. Hercules stereotypes that men must be hot, buff and white. During the movies, Snow White and Cinderella, the women are forced to do chores such as cooking cleaning. When there is a woman in charge, back to The Little Mermaid, the sea witch Ursula, had just about as much power as Kind Triton, but she was portrayed as evil. Jessica Rose pointed out, "The perception of women are either weak victims in a male–dominated society or evil and corrupt when in a position of equal or higher status" (Prezie). The story of Cinderella has many different versions, from all dissimilar cultures. As we know our "Cinderella," the story contains many females. The stepmother, stepsistes, the fairygod mother, and herself. Cinderella only gets her happily ever after due to her natural beuty and being able to stomp over the ones who tried to conceal her. This demonstrates that females compete with each other to have the marital status they want. Cinderella wins, because she pretends to be something she is truly not. The Cultural Areas Of The Pacific Ocean Although many people have no idea that Polynesia really means "region of many islands", I happen to know that this region is made up of three major cultural areas in the southwest Pacific Ocean. These include Polynesia, and Polynesia's neighboring cultures, Melanesia and Micronesia. The Polynesian culture is so wide spread, so practices, customs, norms, etc. all fluctuate by island. The entire culture can be examined through the seven elements of culture. To begin, these three cultures are extremely diverse, but very similar. I decided to examine the Polynesian Culture in particular because it has the highest popularity within the Pacific Islands. The Polynesian culture is spread across 15 main locations, with thousands of islands and several countries in between. Each island included in the Polynesian culture is located within the "Polynesian Triangle". The Polynesian Triangle is made up of three main island groups: Easter Island or "Rapa Nui", the Hawaiian Islands, and New Zealand or "Aotearoa" islands. Other notable islands within the triangle include the Tokelau Islands, the Marquesas Islands, the Tuvalu Islands, the Samoan Islands, the Cook Islands, the Fiji Islands, the Niue Islands, the Tuamotu Islands, the Tahiti Islands, and the Pitcairn Islands. The Polynesian Culture dates back 2,000 to 3,000 years ago. Major Polynesian cultures include New Zealand Māori, Native Hawaiians, and the indigenous peoples of Easter Island, the Marquesas, Sāmoa, American Samoa, French ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Survival of the Marine Corps Essay SURVIVAL OF THE MARINE CORPS The Marine Corps historical characteristics after the Civil War could be based in part on survivability and the need for the Marine Corps to prove its worth to the United States as a Military Force. They were joined by the 6th regiment and in March of 1918 were subsequently fed into the fighting front near Verdun, now a quiet bit of the front. (Simmons/Moskin 1998) This set the scene for one of the most famous Marine battles of WWI. The German Offensive was too much for the tired French Divisions and only thing between the Germans and the road to Paris was the Fourth Marine Brigade (made up of the fifth and sixth regiments) and the 2nd Infantry Division. It was also the sight for one of the most famous quotes in Marine Corps History. (Simmons/Moskin 1998) The 2d Battalion, 5th Marines had just arrived at its position when an automobile skidded to a stop and a French officer dashed out and approached the commanding officer. He explained that a general retreat was in progress and that orders were for the Marines to withdraw. The Marine officer, Captain Lloyd Williams exclaimed in amazement, "Retreat Hell! We just got here!" (Website For Young Marines, Online) Soon after the Germans learned a lesson in marksmanship they would not forget. A line was formed across the road to Paris along a wooded area known as Belleau Woods. As the Germans approached, they came under rifle fire that was accurate at ranges beyond their comprehension, up to 800 yards. The deadly fire took the heart out of the German troops, and the ...
