The term "anarchy" originates from the union of the Greek word άρχή, meaning "authority" or
"command", and the privative alpha, which expresses absence. Anarchism is the belief in the
abolition of all government and in the organization of society on a voluntary and cooperative basis
without recourse to force or compulsion. This belief is based on five main pillars: anti–
authoritarianism, voluntarism, egalitarianism, mutualism and autonomism.
According to the anarchist thought, authority is to be rejected as illegitimate and the imposition of
power through force is untenable. Russian philosopher Mikhail Bakunin argued for the replacement
of the state by federations of self–governing workplaces and communes (anti–authoritarianism). As

Che Guevara was a revolutionist, a liberator, and a medical school graduate. He was also an

Le Guin requires the reader to think, and also it allows the reader to create his own opinion about the
events happening. Most of the book is not written in a way that condemns either of the leading
aspects: capitalism and anarchism. Instead of criticizing, Le Guin presents the facts, the events and

published about how they dodged the military draft, and how they both were carrying guns during
the time of their arrest. The Department of Justice even released propaganda to excite and unify the

did not even know the evidence. Judge Thayer told the jurors to have confidence and most

Utopianism is the idea of a perfect society. Although visions of this perfect society vary, most can be
characterised by an abolishment of exploitation, greed and conflict. Utopianism is often most
associated with Anarchism and because of this, many critics are often quick to deem the ideology
idealistic and unattainable. However this view of Anarchism is, in fact, over simplified itself, and as
a wider philosophy Anarchism can be broken into much smaller strands – all with varying degrees
of utopian belief.
One of the main reasons that anarchism is often associated with utopianism, is that both are founded
on the principle belief of the unlimited possibilities of human nature and self–development. This

nature is selfish, greedy and aggressive and thus believes the state is necessary for a secure life.
Instead, anarchists believe that social order will arise naturally as humans have the ability to

Joseph Conrad's The Secret Agent is a before–its–time political masterpiece in the form of fictional
literature that grips the minds of an audience who may or may not have ever thought to question the
majority existence. After the occurrences of the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001, scholars,
educators, and the general public, in a desperate attempt to justify what was happening in the United

On April 20th, 1999, two students, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, walked into their high school and
opened fire killing twelve fellow students, one teacher, and then finally themselves (Lamb). The
nation stood still. At that time, it was considered the deadliest school shooting in US history. After
the mourning and confusion opened way to questions, the students were closely examined and
people tried to make sense of why these two had planned for over a year to exterminate so many
innocent students and teachers. The Konformist, an anarchist website and blog, released statements
by Bill White of the Utopian Anarchist Party in response to the Columbine shootings. He stated
"There is no ballot for young people, there is only the bullet. So it can be of no surprise today that
students have struck back with bullets and not through ineffective non–violent civil disobedience"
("Konformist"). White's salute to the two young men and their insurrection against "the
indoctrination machine" ("Konformist"), is in line with the notion that anarchism can be found in
any rebellion against the norm. Winnie, who lives her life to maintain a stable environment for her
mentally challenged brother, also manifests anarchy in a very different way. She revolts against her
character and in some ways against the role of the Victorian woman. Winnie momentarily breaks
character when she kills the man she is serving in return for stability. She becomes the novel's
focused anarchist. The only anarchist to correctly carry out such an extreme act to avenge her
brother. Literary reviewers such as Colas, suggests that Winnie failed her anarchist title when she

James C. Scott has been sitting on these ideas of anarchism for over 20 years before putting out the
book Two Cheers for Anarchism and the viewpoints are still relevant today. It has been my favorite
book we have read and discussed this semester due to the fact that everyone at a point in their life
has had certain ideas or has looked at the world in a way that wasn't going to be universally liked.
That's what Scott has done and on the first page of the preface he writes, "Again and again over
three decades, I found myself having said something in a seminar discussion or having written
something and then catching myself thinking, Now that's what an anarchist would argue" (ix).
There are some conflicting views in Two Cheers for Anarchism and Political Philosophy: An
Introduction. Jason Brennan, the author of Political Philosophy: An Introduction, is a book that goes
over many ideas like Scott's, but also includes the theories of other philosophers. This paper will
show how Scott, Brennan, Nozick, Hayek, and Rawls view the differences in wealth, property, and
status. I will explore how each philosopher feels about these topics and how they differ. Scott
identifies with a lot of arguments that anarchists make but there's one he disagrees with, "The last
strand of anarchist thought I definitely wish to distance myself from is the sort of libertarianism that

Paulo Freire was one of the many theorist we covered this semester and he was one of them how
refer that the oppressed had to be the oppressors. One statement he made in the reading Freire
(1992) "the great humanistic and historical task of the oppressed" is to "liberate themselves and their
oppressors as well."(1). His statement is very powerful to the point where he is making us think that

In order for political efficacy to be high among citizens, news sources have to reliable and
representative. This means completely exercising the first amendment and having a press free of
government intervention. This is exactly what ICH does. For example, on March 11, 2016 an article
written by Buren titled "FBI has a New Plan to Spy on High School Students" he outlines the plan

Alexander Berkman is most known for being the anarchist who attempted to assassinate Henry Clay
Frick, Carnegie Steel's anti–union manager during the lockout issues in the late 1800's. This was one
of his major actions as an anarchist, however, there is much more to Berkman and his radical
activism than his one act of propaganda by deed. He was a larger part of the American anarchist
movement of the early 20th century than he is given credit for. I will explore Berkman's life and
political activism from origins in revolutionary Russia through his fight for American workers and

Berkman arrived in Pittsburgh, where Henry Frick's office was located, on July 14 where he stayed
with a couple fellow anarchists and met some other local ones. On July 23 Alexander Berkman
