The Bridge Uncrossed In the book The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, Holden Caulfield, the main character, Holden Caulfield, is faced
between two realms so different, connected by an old ruggedy rope bridge in which he stands. Only accepting the past will he he will conquer his
fear and cross to the other side in safe passage. As human beings we all fear to grow up. As children we live in a realm of wonder and innocence.
Here we only strive for fun and when things don't go our way we have comfort from our mother's soft hands and hugs. This isn't the case with Holden.
With Holden, his innocence and wonder was stripped away and the fabric of his childhood was torn. Holden Caulfield is depressed and fears that he
will not survive the transition from childhood to adulthood because he never got over the losse of his brother Allie. Holden's depression can be
described as a shadow which surrounds him in his fears and turns it into sadness. A shadow in which he can't run away from, as it swallows him
deeper in darkness. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He understand how people change the older they get, and he despises that. Holden understands the good nature in kids. The good nature Allie had.
That's why the shadow of depression follows him. Now that Allie is gone, the good in the Holdens world left with him. Holden's view on art in
museums explains this in a way which adds to his grief and depression. Art doesn't change but people's view on it does is how he described it. Holden
also explained that everything was there stays where it is in museums, nothing moves, nothing changes. Holden doesn't want to move on, he doesn't
want to change. Holden explains in chapter sixteen "Nobody'd be different. The only thing that would be different would be you. Not that you'd be so
much older or anything. It wouldn't be that, exactly. You'd just be different, that's

The Last Day Of School
It was the last day of school, Kaylee rode the bus home just as she does every other day. When she got home, the key to her house fell out of her
hand and into a ditch. She couldn't find it, her brother helped search for the key but it was nowhere to be seen. Their mom wouldn't get off work for
another two hours, so they had to sit outside in the hot sun waiting for her. She reached into her backpack to get her phone so she could call her
mom. After she realised her phone wasn't in her backpack she decided to go sit under a tree for shade. After sitting under the tree for a while, the sun
started to set. Their mom finally got home and they went inside. She told her mom that she had left her phone at school. Since it was summer break she
couldn't go back and get it. Her mom told her that she wasn't getting another phone since she left it at school. Kaylee snuck out of the house to go get
her friends. Kaylee, Destiny, Alyssa, and Lexi all walked to pinkston.
When they got there all the lights were off except for one, the main office still had a dim light on. Destiny seen something move inside the room.
Kaylee figured one of the teachers left something at school. But then as they got closer to the doors they realised that it is 3:03 AM. They never
thought a teacher would still be at school at this time. For some reason none of them thought about how they would get inside of the school, the doors
were locked, Kaylee threw a rock at the door and the glass broke. They all went

Inhumanity In The Last Days
Steven Spielberg's The Last Days is profoundly disturbing as it allows the viewer to see humanity's ability to disregard the thoughts and feelings of
others through the eyes of concentration camp survivors–humanity's inhumanity. The five survivors The Last Days follows have eerily similar stories
of disrespect, abuse, and neglect. It is hard to imagine that their experiences actually happened, that is how extreme the cruelty is. It started with small,
overlooked changes. Tom spoke ofJews "losing their jobs, their businesses" before Germany had much influence over Hungary. Then, the situation
progressed to the point where Irene recalled her "friends, people who were sharing things together, were suddenly hostile". However, once the Jews

Character traits in books are a very essential element and without them, books would not be books. They provide people with an example that they
may follow in order to live a good life. Some books serve as life lessons to show people how some characteristics can bring downfall to some people
if they do not follow the rules. Throughout Last Days of Summer, by Steve Kluger, the characters possess many characteristics that can help us in our
everyday life, most importantly, patience. Charlie learns how to develop patience throughout the book. In the beginning, he despises Joey for the
nonstop letters he keeps sending him. As time goes on the two develop a very good and strong relationship all because Charlie showed patience to Joey.

How Does Holden Grow Up In Catcher In The Rye
Growing up can be scary for anyone. Some kids handle it better than others. Holden Caulfield, the main character in J.D salinger's book The
Catcher in the Rye has a difficult time handling responsibilities and adult situations. Holden is afraid to grow up because he does not want to
abandon his childish ways and start handling responsibilities as an adult. He is also a troubled 16 year old kid who tries to escape his problems
instead of solving them. In the beginning, it was clear right away that Holden seemed to run away from his problems. In chapter 1 Holden says he
was being kicked out of Pencey Prep, which is the school that he attended in Agerstown, Pennsylvania. He was flunking most of his classes which
got him kicked out of the school. Then in chapter 8 Holden leaves Pencey in the middle of the night because he felt lonely and could not handle the
"phony" people. Holden's idea was that he would stay in a hotel in New York, where he lived until his parents found out that he was kicked out of
school. As a result of Holden being kicked out, he felt that his parents would be upset with him, considering that this... Show more content on

"I knew that whole museum routine like a book." (p70) Holden explained. He expressed that he loved that museum because he went there as a kid
on class field trips a lot, and said it always looked the same, which was one of the things he enjoyed the most. He loved things that never changed.
Holden remembers all the great things about the museum the way it looked, the smell, the quiet sounds from inside. It reminded him of when he was
a child. Holden did not go inside the museum. Not even if someone was to pay him a million bucks. After all the memories of going into that
museum every weekend, Holden did not want it to change. This is a sign that Holden is afraid to grow up and does not want to face change and grow in

Loss Of Innocence In The Catcher In The Rye
"The knowledge that makes us cherish innocence makes innocence unattainable."(Irving Howe Quote) The classic novel, The Catcher in the Rye,
demonstrates this loss of innocence through a young boy's corruption of a poem by Robert Burns. The poem is titled "Coming Thro' the Rye" but
the young boy misinterpreted one of the lines. Instead of saying "If a body meet a body, coming through the rye," the line from the original poem, he
sang"If a body catch a body, coming through the rye."(Salinger 129) This mistake becomes a symbol for the loss of innocence that occurs when one
grows up and continues to act as a metaphor for Holden's desire to protect all children from that fate. Both the song "Comin' Thro' the Rye," and the
boy's alteration of it, serve to accentuate the theme of loss of innocence throughout the novel.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Holden is walking down the street when he overhears the young boy in front of him say "If a body catch body coming through the rye."(Salinger
129) The boy continues to sing this corrupted line but Holden pauses when he notices that the boy is not trying to please anyone but himself. The boy
is completely happy just singing for himself. When Holden realizes this, he becomes less depressed and starts thinking. This leads to the next example,
which is when Holden actually uses the song as a metaphor for the loss of innocence that occurs when one grows

The Last Days Of Summer
The last few days of summer are always unforgettable. As the school year draws near I find myself cherishing every moment of summer fun.
Everyone is staying up late and sleeping all day, except for me. On this particular August morning, I was struggling to get up for my team's daily
soccer practice. Once dressed I was actually feeling pretty excited about the day. The twenty–minute car ride flew by and Mom dropped Anna and I off
at the soccer field. I stepped out of the car and the smoldering heat hit me like a freight train and I had to remind myself that practicing is for the
best. I began putting on my socks and shin guards when several of my friends started showing up, one by one. I'm so relieved when my favorite people

Not only was sweat dripping from my brow, it was dripping all over my weak body. I sat down and took my first sip water. That sip tasted like the
most glorious pure ice water I had ever drank. Five minutes went by and resting was over. Luckily though a shooting drill came next. On my first
shot I used great force and my laces to send the ball in. It flew up towards the very top right corner of the goal frame but my effort my not enough.
The team goal keeper leaped with all her might, knocking the ball out of play and diving onto the ground making an unpleasant thud. Although it
was a good shot, I felt defeated and as I got back in line, the frustration set in. I stepped up for my next shot brimming with determination and made
the goal, my confidence restored. After a few more rounds of shooting we were given another water break. Time was passing and the humidity
was rising. This time the water just tasted like any other water, but I was still satisfied. As practice was drawing towards the end, it was time for
our last activity: scrimmaging. It's what I looked forward to almost every day. While coach began picking teams, I prayed my team wouldn't have
to wear bibs. Of course we did, which is just my luck. The stench of the bibs was so bad it could have knocked me down. But as I pulled one over my
head, I pretended it was a brand new blouse. I was so proud to be on the varsity team, I would've worn anything. Then I ran out to my

How To Write An Essay On The Catcher In The Rye
"The Catcher in the Rye" by J. D. Salinger is a critically acclaimed and highly spoke of book. The book "Catcher in the Rye" is narrated by a
sixteen year old boy named "Holden Caulfield". This teen adolescent is not like any other boy you will ever find, Holden is a sixteen year old teen
going through the most difficult times of adolescence and is discovering that no one understands him. Holden is too complex for our understanding
he speaks in his own vernacular as if not one thing or person can understand him. The story takes place mostly in New York after Holden flunks out
of his prep school, "Pencey Prep". Holden travels to New York for three days before going back to his family. In New York Holden makes many

The book shows how the misunderstanding of one struggling teen adolescent can affect their very outlook on life. To many people Holden is
negative, rude, depressed, etc. But once you try to put yourself in his shoes you realize that Holden is seeing how the world really is and he is
showing that yes there are negative parts in life but there are also positive parts in life as well and how he knows why things happen for a reason
from his brother Allie dying of Leukemia to seeing his loving kid–sister Phoebe. To me the book has it's rough spots and it's great spots, I like how the
book starts out in first person when Holden says, "I'm not going to tell you my whole goddamn biography or anything." this gives you a quick first
look at Holden's true character and how he speaks his mind with everyone. The book also has some bad parts such as when Holden starts to digress
like when he mentions his brother Allie, his sister Phoebe, or his brother D. B. it starts to bore me when he goes into extraordinary detail about
something that doesn't need to be covered that much. Overall I really enjoyed the book and the story

Use Of Symbolism In "The Catcher In The Rye" and "The Great Gatsby" There are many writers like James Joyce, Patrick Kananach and Thomas
Moore who use symbolism to convey and support indirect meaning in their writings. J.D. Salinger and F. Scott Fitzgerald both use symbolism in
similar ways. In both "The Catcher In The Rye" and "The Great Gatsby", the authors used symbolism to convey emotions and reality. In "The Catcher
In The Rye", J.D. Salinger uses Holden's red hunting cap, the exhibits at the Museum of Natural History and "kings in the back row" as symbols
whose meanings help tell the story. Holden's red hunting hat stands for Holden's disapproval of adult society and phonies. Although, Holden and his
hat are out of place in New... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fitzgerald also uses colors for symbolism. The color white is used many times in the story. The author uses white to describe Gatsby's clothes and
his mansion. The color white represents Gatsby's innocence and pure heart. The color yellow is also used throughout the story as a symbol of
corruption and death. The car that Gatsby drives was yellow and his yellow car killed Myrtle. The flower that Daisy is named after is white on the
outside and yellow in the middle. Daisy seems innocent on the outside, but her real character is as corrupt and greedy as Tom's. Throughout "The
Catcher In The Rye" and "The Great Gatsby", symbolism is used to paint mental pictures for the reader. The symbols used allow the reader to foresee
the character's emotions, beliefs and values. Ultimately, the authors' uses of symbols make both novels more interesting and

Analysis Of ' Last Days '
During Socrates' last days, he speaks with Cebes about the fate of the soul. Cebes is unconvinced that the soul doesn't die concurrently with the
body, which leads him to create an alternative analogy. Cebes' imperfect analogy compares the body and soul to a cloak and a weaver, respectively.
A cloak can be worn over and over again, which represents multiple human lives in a body. The weaver, however, outlasts each cloak until the last
cloak dies. Cebes argues that because the weaver no long has a cloak to wear, he will die. This means that although thesoul may preexist and outlive a
body, it too will eventually die. Therefore, if Cebes' analogy turns out to be more accurate and correct, then the soul is not immortal. Socrates, on the
other hand, believes that the soul is immortal and looks to Forms to prove the soul's immortality. He provides a "safe answer" that helps the reader
understand not only his argument, but Plato's argument and view of philosophy as well.
In order to respond to Cebes' argument, Socrates discusses causes. As a young man, Socrates was interested in physical science. However, he grew
uninterested in physical science because he believed the inquiry into nature and science blinded him from certain ideas that he found paradoxical. For
example, he was dissatisfied by the idea that "two" can be achieved in multiple ways: adding together two items or dividing a single item into two
parts (97a–b). He believed there should be a consistent cause for this,

Examples Of Escapism In Catcher In The Rye
The Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger, is about a very troubled, adolescent teenage boy and three extremely pivotal days in his life. Holden
Caulfield, the protagonist of this novel, is in search of something in his life. Something that he can hold on to, someone to catch him. However, Holden
cannot find what he is looking for in life, because everything he sees is phony. To him, the world is full of transparent people living transparent lies.
Holden finds himself in the midst of a phony, greedy and destructive world, which he unsuccessfully tries to escape several times. In an attempt to
protect himself from what he sees as the predatory nature of society, Holden surrounds himself and his mind with forms of escapism, but ultimately
fails. Holden attempts to use physical and mental escapism many times throughout the novel. In the early chapters of The Catcher in... Show more

He becomes a phony, the very type of person he hates the most, in order to fit in with society. He lies to others as well as to himself in order to
create a false, fantasy world where he is the hero, the phony. However, ultimately he is unsuccessful at fixing his ultimate problem, because the lies
only make his situation worse. In the final chapters of The Catcher in the Rye, Holden finally gets a glimpse of how to make things better. By
protecting others, like his sister Phoebe, Holden is finally able to protect himself, in a way. As C.W. Trowbridge puts it in his article, "The catcher,
in fact, wants to be caught, the saviour [sic] saved." (Trowbridge p. 688) Holden sees in Phoebe the very thing he is desiring to prevent from the
children around him, a fall from innocence. In the last few chapters of The Catcher in the Rye, Holden finally realizes that the "fall" from innocence
and into an adult world really is not as bad as it seems. Because of his sister Phoebe, Holden finally gains enough courage to let go and

Pompeii: The Last Day Documentary Essay
The documentary of Pompeii is a film that shows the story of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius and the devastating impact it had on the inhabitants of
Pompeii and Herculaneum. The story highlights the event by emphasizing how the eruption only lasted for less than 24 hours and terminated by
burying the ancient cities of the Roman Empire in ash. Although, the volcano remained inactive for many years, it was believed to be a mountain by
its people. Thus, they were not prepared for an eruption that will later cause many deaths. Yet, a few years later, archeological evidence was found,
which helped determine the cause of the eruption.
Many signs such as: earthquakes, the drying of underground springs, and the ground rising up, indicated the possibility of an eruption, however,
people did not understand the significance of this signs. As I have stated before, the volcano was inactive for approximately 1,800 years. This means,
that the longer the time a volcano remains inactive, the more likely it is more stronger and deadly. During those years, a plug of old magma ... Show

cools down, it falls into the earth and looks like rocks or pebbles as it is described in the documentary. Along with this rocks or pebbles, lithics
appeared. Lithics are the rocks that are torn from inside the volcano and carried up into the atmosphere to later fall back to earth. Moreover, tons of
heated gas, magma, and ash were released from the volcano every second. As a result, the eruption lasted less than 24 hours, from start to

Catcher In The Rye Songs Analysis
The Catcher in the Rye is a very peculiar and depressing book. It is full of symbolism and has a lot of meaning. There are many songs that could fit
this book well, but I think that there are twelve songs represent it best. These songs mostly represent Holden, because he is the main feature of the
book. Of course, these songs all have to be the clean version since Holden freaks out about curse words. Like the book, these songs are also full of
symbolism and meaning. The first song in the playlist is Jump Out the Window by Big Sean. The title is very relatable to the book since James
Castle jumped out of his window and several times, Holden has thought to jump out of the window too. Now when you look at the lyrics, there is
one part that says, "Remember when you used to come through and hit the Mario Kart, And you always picked the princess". This relates to when
Holden is talking to Stradlater about Jane and how they used to play checkers back then and she would always keep her kings in the back row.
Another part of this song that relates to Catcher in the Rye is "You cried on my phone the whole night that time he crossed the line yeah, yeah,
yeah...And you told me never mind yeah, yeah, yeah." This also relates to when Holden was thinking about Jane in chapter 11. In this scene, Holden
describes a situation when Jane's... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This song speaks about a friend that the singer had that died. This relates to Catcher in the Rye because it is like how Holden lost Allie. He still
thinks about him every day and he can't get over the fact that he's gone. "Each and every day, The daydreams of how we used to be, See your
family, And that baby's lookin' just like you, Why'd you go away? I've been missin' you lately." This sounds like what is going through Holden's head
whenever he thinks about Allie. He also says that Phoebe looks a lot like him, just like it says in the song, "That baby's lookin' just like

The Last Day Of Elizabeth
The next day Elizabeth received an invitation to Duke of Stratford's Ball. No doubt Blair had secured it for her – she'd never run in his set before. She
appreciated Blair's efforts but wondered how on earth she'd manage a new gown suitable for such an occasion. The Duke's spring ball was
considered the event of the season. The Regent might even put in an appearance. London's finest would be out in their most impressive jewels and
costly gowns. This was not a playing field Elizabeth was prepared for. She went to her room to survey her paltry evening gowns and dwindling
jewellery case. What she found further underscored her plight.

"Can you believe it Madame? The boy said it was a gift from a friendly admirer!" Fear and trepidation were all Elizabeth felt. She had no admirers and
any who might send such a gift had only thing they wanted in payment and she was no merry widow. "Marie, let me see the card so I know where
to send it back". "No Madame! You can't! You've nothing to wear to the ball". "Then I'll have to stay home and risk Blair's wrath. Give me the card
Marie". Marie half–heartedly handed it over her face a mask of disappointment. A mistress with neither youth nor funds was not worthy of her
talents. The note read "Once in while a woman should have exactly what she wants exactly when she needs it, B". Tears formed in Elizabeth's
eyes. The gratitude and appreciation of her friend's perceptive kindness overwhelmed her. "It's from Blair. She would brook no refusal and daren't
try to return it. Let's withdraw to my bedroom and see how it looks. I do hope it fits!" It was too much. She was trembling with each parcel she
opened. Marie was beside herself. One treasure was more glorious than the next. Blair had managed to even include some scandalous silk drawers
and stockings with a note saying enclosed saying "Never under estimate the effect of silk on a woman's body". There wasn't one item forgotten in her
ensemble right down to a beautiful pale, pink French fan with a silver handle. Now Elizabeth had no excuse to offer nor did she want to.

Examples Of Maturity In Catcher In The Rye
There are certain qualities that define maturity, and they vary from person to person. Throughout the story, Holden Caulfield, the sixteen year old
protagonist of "The Catcher in the Rye" by J.D. Salinger is slowly but surely becoming a mature, young boy. He battles through his teenage life
because he is caught between two worlds; one of pure bliss and innocence, the other of a mature adult. As he aspires to be "the catcher in the rye",
he wants all children to hold on to their innocence as long as they can because he feels the world is full of "phony" adults. However with the help of
some friends and family, he is able to realize that he cannot save all children and that they will eventually have to grow up. Jeannette Walls, the author

In chapter nine when Holden takes a trip to New York City, he is very concerned with the ducks in Central Park. While speaking with his taxi driver,
he says: "Hey, listen" ..."You know those ducks in that lagoon right near Central Park South? That little lake? By any chance, do you happen to know
where they go, the ducks, when it gets all frozen over? Do you happen to know, by any chance?" 'I realized it was only one chance in a million–I was
just interested, that's all'" (Salinger 60). Holden perceives himself as a duck trapped in the motionless water, a gloomy atmosphere where he does
not belong nor fit into. Subconsciously, he may be searching for a "warm escape" like the ducks, because he feels he should have a chance to find
his place in the world too. His motive for wanting a "great escape" is because he fears the idea of maturing into a young adult. He feels that adults are
"phony's" and depreciate the values instilled in young children. Holden's conversation with his taxi driver teaches him that there is a fine line between
dreams and reality, and this helps Holden

Response: The Last Days of Judas Iscariot I was very curious as to what this play was going to be about, because when I first read the title, I was
not able to make anything of it. Being someone who isn't religious, it was a refreshing take on a debatable concept. Before the reading the audience
guide and seeing the play, I would have never in a million years though the play would be a religious debating stemming from the New Testament. I
was very surprised to find out that the play was about a religious debate because I personally do not see this too often and I always thought that people
tried to avoid anything that would cause a religious debate. The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, set in Purgatory, was thought provoking play about a man
who has committed a great sin and the people who tried to explain that for an all forgiving greater divine power, why wasn't Judas Iscariot forgiven for
his sins? "The Last Days of Judas Iscariot examines the plight and fate of the New Testament's most infamous and unexplained sinner." At first and for
the longest time, id didn't know what to make of that sentence. But after having some time to think about the events that went on throughout the play, it
stated to make more and more sense to me. To me, the concept of examining anything is that the situation was dissected from start to finish, to explain
all the things that need to be explained so that in the end there are no questions. If

"Those that fail to learn from history, are doomed to repeat it" (Churchill). The book Hitler's Last Days: The Death of the Nazi Regime and the
World's Most Notorious Dictator, by Bill O'Reilly, details the last days of the most reviled and evil man in history: Adolf Hitler. Most of the book is
focused inside the bunker where Hitler is weakened by a failed assassination attempt, while German soldiers were camouflaged and quietly traveling
their way through the Ardennes Forest in Luxembourg in an effort to win the war. It also provides insight into the minds of the brave men who dared
to fight and the generals that led them. It gives specific details about the last desperate attempt of Hitler to turn the tide of the war and keep Germany

Not only was Hitler's heart evil, but the fate of the world now hinged on the battle mistakes of an obsessed maniacal dictator. Despite recent
setbacks on the battlefield, the war was far from over, and Hitler was totally convinced he was going to win the war. He devised a plan that he
thought was sure to work: a surprise attack that "will push the Allied armies back across France and will allow Germany to regain control of
Europe" (O'Reilly 9). The fact that the Allied Forces lacked gas for their tanks, bullets for their guns; food, and proper clothing energized Hitler into
thinking that his plan might just work (O'Reilly 24). Additionally, the Germans moved their troops to locations where the US lines of defense were
the thinnest and the weakest due to the woods and where German soldiers outnumbered Americans troops two to one (O'Reilly 30). In places like the
Ardennes Forest in Luxembourg, Americans were outnumbered five to one. The Americans and Allied Forces became depressed; yet they knew they
had "to hold the line at all costs. Because if they don't, Hitler's crazy gamble in the Ardennes just might succeed" (O'Reilly 48). Hitler was having
some startling successes, but the longer the war went on, the more out of touch Hitler became with the realities on the ground. He ignored the evidence
because he was so certain that he was right. The first tactical mistake Hitler made was to

Character Analysis Essay On The Catcher In The Rye
Holden Caulfield, the protagonist and main character of The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, seems to have many dislikes and much fewer likes
about life, as a whole. In many situations throughout the book, Holden seems to have negative thoughts about every little thing. From his school,
Pencey Prep, to movies or actors; even to the word "grand," Holden seemingly holds a distaste in just about anything that crosses paths with him.
However, further into the novel, it becomes apparent that one of the causes Holden holds dearest to his heart is to keep the innocence of children for
as long as possible. Holden wants to be the "catcher in the rye" because one of the things he loves is young kids and the catcher saves them. Holden
didn't seem to care about much in the world, but near the end kids seemed to be what he adored most. He cared about them and knew what to do to
take care of them. "The thing with kids is, if they want to grab for the gold ring, you have to let them do it, and not say anything. If they fall off, they
fall off, but it's bad if you say anything to them." (Salinger, 211) From this quote Holden is explaining to us how to interact with kids. He is saying let
them fail at something so they can learn the lesson rather than telling them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He realizes this when he hears a song "Catcher thro' the rye" and mistakes the lyrics to be "Catcher in the rye" which he thinks of as a man who

determines that this is what he wants to do with his life in a figurative way, which means that he wishes to keep the last bit of innocence in children
that is left in them. This shows his passion for kids and explains why he seems to only like children and everything else is negative in his

The Last Day Of Skiing
As thin air encloses me as I inaugurate the last day of skiing at Breckenridge, Colorado. Three days of skiing cease rather painlessly; I stumble
oftenly but an evening on the couch next to a crackling wood fire soothes my minor aches. Closing times nudges on the final day of our weekend trip
as I prepare for my ultimate run of the vacation. Fresh off the ski lift, I glide towards the junction of the trials unoccupied skilled face of the
mountain. I detach my boots from my ski's and rest them on my shoulder, climbing up the rim of the mountain while the wind sways me back and
forth, reaching the top, clicking my skis back on. After a moment of deliberating, I fearlessly select a narrow path so steep that the only way can be
seen from my viewpoint.
All alone, I glance downhill and advance towards a dangerous region on the mountain. Suddenly, my legs chatter violently, as my skis scrape against
the frozen patches that disperse the area.
"I already knew that the trail will be empty for quite awhile," I said.
After overcompensating from the fall. I take my left glove off and inspect what damage has this done to me, the heavy drift blows my glove away
from me.
"Noooo, no," I said.
I stand up and detach my right ski, then scramble the icy slope that flanks the trail in search for my missing glove. Upon returning to stance of my
missing glove, I re–enter the steep slope. I put on my glove and slowly slide down the slope putting my ski back on. I suddenly hear rumblings followed

Comparison/Contrast Essay For Catcher in the Rye and Stand...
These days our artistic landscape is so deeply defined by visual narratives on TV and in the movies that we can hardly imagine a world without
images. Sometimes quality is judged solely based on a stories actions. In this image drenched society we sometimes struggle to appreciate and
celebrate books and movies where the quality arises not exclusively from plot but also from the language and characters itself. The novel The
Catcher in the Rye written by J.D. Salinger and the movie Stand by Me directed by Rob Reiner are examples of having uninteresting story line
concepts but involving beautifully executed details. The Catcher in the Rye is about a teenager retelling the time when he spent three days in New
York and Stand by Me is about a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just like Holden, all they ever long for is just some little acts of affection and care, little things that are enough for them to feel loved.
In contrast to The Catcher in the Rye following the story of a single person, there is Stand by Me which is a movie following the tale of four boys.
This is a story about a road trip, but unlike typical road trips, this one involves travel by foot, and not over an extended distance. The main
characters are Gordie: a troubled individual lacking parental affection due to the loss of his brother, Chris: an introspective, abused child labeled
being a "bad boy" (Stand by Me), he is also Gordies best friend, Teddy: the slightly crazy wild card with an abusive father, and Vern: the outcast of
the group who no one pays much attention to. In many ways, the story is more about what the characters discover along the way than what they find
at the end and their growing up is accelerated by lessons they learn about life and death. This story is centered more on the boys in a path way
between their childhood and adulthood. As the four friends make their way through junkyards and leech–infested watery areas and along railroad tracks,
they learn things about their inner thoughts. Each wrestles with his own demons and the film shows how all these individual weaknesses could be
overcome in a group context. Through primary relationships, with their social support, intimacy, the "we" feeling, can function as

The Last Day of Humanity
Prologue Purpose. The very word seems to carry with it the weight of progress, of advancement, of humanity. It is the fire that has burned in man's heart
since the dawn of civilization; a cunning tactician smiling to himself as humanity wins its battles. Purpose has driven us from the first fire to the final
frontier; it is the father of civilization. Humanity advanced, quickly. With basic survival and a functioning society fulfilled, civilization sped up.
Distances became shorter, entertainment became quicker, and life became busy. With life moving quickly, man lost time to think. And without thought
to fuel it, purpose became sparse and unfulfilled. Mankind, in their vanity, began to attempt to eradicate the need for purpose. Society became shallow.
It pressed upon its youth, its future, mindless norms disguised as purpose. College, careers, and retirements were laid out ahead of them, whereupon
the latest generation began to goose–step into misery. Before long, midlife crises began to arise at ages as early as 16, a harrowing thought. Absent
among all this anguish was purpose; 401(k)'s would not bring meaning to one's life, nor would a management level position in a startup on the rise. Life
was no longer about the means, but rather the ends. Consequently, joy became not an experience, but a material. A product, bought and sold in
numerous markets, manufactured and pumped out of factories. Amongst this fiasco, we find a character. Lost in the darkness, he wanders,

Why Is Catcher In The Rye Still Relevant Today
Old School Versus New School The Catcher in The Rye is a book written by J.D. Salinger and is widely debated whether the book is still relevant
to people today. The story is based in the 1950's about a boy who struggles to fit in and to understand human nature in a quest he pursues to find
himself and his place in this world. The Catcher In The Rye is still relevant to people today because the emotions people felt back then are exactly
the same today, many people still struggle to find themselves, and although the times have changed, many people still act and have the same
necessities as before. The book is is relevant very relevant as people experience the same emotions as Holden did. The times may have changed, but
people still feel exactly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kids can relate to the book more than ever because the emotions and hardships Holden goes through are almost exactly like the ones kids face
today. The book can connect to every student that reads it and those have can support that the book is, " as universal as it is timeless"(Maliabadi).
The book is universal because its themes are universal, everyone can connect and find some sort of emotional attachment to Holden and his
journey. Many people sympathize with him because in some way they have suffered as he has, everyone has lost someone or something, or
eventually will, just like Holden. Many people may argue that the book is clearly outdated as kids are a lot more driven while back in the day
kids weren't as pressured to succeed, " Teenagers are more interested in Harvard than flunking high school"(Schuessler, Jennifer). Kids seem to be
a lot more school oriented as well as more inclined to strive for success than kids were 40 years ago. Many kids these days are studying hours
every day and Holden has found himself flunked out of almost every school he has attended. The book is outdated because a lot of kids can't
relate with holden's inability to succeed and that is a turnoff for a book these days. However People still have the same goals and deeper meaning
which allows readers to really connect to Holden. since Holden's times as a teen it still is very human, and sometimes only human to experience the,
"rebellious search to understand human nature and himself"(Clay,J). This quest is so important very everyone to pursue and Holden never really
figured it out a his whole idea of the catcher in the rye was debunked. It is normal for those who are lost, to inquire about life itself as it is still a
mystery to so many people.

The Day Of Last Night
I inspected the autopsy notes carefully. Every single detail was vital to finding the murderer of the wealthy Sir Simon Senior. Last night at the
Whopping Hill Manor, Sir Simon was murdered by one of his guest or staff at his famous annual business party. On the day of last night, every year,
Sir Simon summoned twelve lucky starting businesses, fed them an extravagant meal, and listened to their business pitches about each of their
products and chose one which he would fund. The lucky winner walked away with nearly bottomless funds to build the business of their dreams. It
was a highly sophisticated event, but with last night's events in mind, it would probably never happen again. I flipped to a page with very graphic
pictures of where he was found and the part of his skull that was bashed in with a small, heavy, round object. I shook my head as I remembered
questioning a frightened, scared witness recounting the gruesome scene. She was one of the twelve business opportunists and was very descriptive, "I–

Holden Caulfield Relevant Today
Many consider The Catcher in the Rye to be the most poignant and popular story of adolescence in American literature. Reading reviews, examining
the public reception, and uncovering depths of research would evidence this well. However, the value of the novel rests not in its popularity–a simple
sign of its inherent value–but in its ability to resonate truth. More than merely telling a story, Salinger creates a relatable life through the actions and
attitudes of his ornery adolescent character Holden Caulfield. Even though Holden can be annoying and the setting of the novel dated, his perspective
of the world makes The Catcher in the Rye just as relevant to Australian teenagers today as it was back in 1951 when first published. The

This continues to make the novel just as relevant to Australian youth in 2018. During his meeting with his history teacher Mr Spencer, before
Holden leaves Pencey, he explains why he left Elkon Hills. He attributes, "One of the biggest reasons I left... was because I was surrounded by
phonies. They were coming in the god damn window...Mr Haas... was the phoniest bastard you've ever seen." (pg. 12) Holden's reference to the
adjective phonies is the first of many references to people who he sees as fake, superficial and lacking authenticity. Naming the principal, an adult in
a position of authority as a 'phony' coupled with a derogatory insult such as 'bastard' indicates his negative and critical view of those who he sees as
fake, particularly adults. This view makes the novel resonate with so many teens today. Moreover, his scepticism of 'phonies' is eptimized in his
description of his brother D.B – he tells the reader that "now [D.B] is out in Hollywood... being a prostitute. If there's one thing I hate, it's the movies,"
(pg.1). Through the first person narration and the language choice of the noun prostitute it is clear that Holden views Hollywood as the center of
superficiality – a world where nothing is genuine or real. The strong language choice of the verb 'hate', illustrates Holden's negative views of this
aspect of the adult world. This scepticism of a lack of authenticity in the world makes the novel relatable to a contemporary audience. A Forbes article
entitle Authenticity: The Way To The Millennial's Heart, outlines "that authenticity can be considered to be one of the ten values regarded as most
essential to youth." As teenagers our world view is influenced by technology and social media. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram– the plethora of social
media has made it easier to fake it. Before any scheduled meeting, strangers can simply Google your name

Holden Caulfield Characterization
The Catcher In The Rye is a novel by J. D Salinger, and this book is rich with literary devices and characterizations. The Author of this novel fully
achieved to create a character that can connect to the reader, and that the reader ends up loving it. Something about his beliefs about his surroundings,
and his vivid way of expressing it, makes him connect powerfully with readers who come from backgrounds completely different from his. The main
character is mainly the character of the author. The author decided to put a character that is like him. Salinger was not a person that celebrated life,
and was more of a reserved person, and this tendency can be seen in the main character. The main character suffered the death of his smaller brother...

The most important theme in this book is Alienation, or isolating himself from the society to protect himself. Life has been harsh with Holden, and
Holden feels "Trapped on the other side" Isolating himself in a way makes him believe that he is better than everybody else, and also to show that he
is no phony, that he is unique. Because of this isolation, he never has this human love or human interaction. All his problems are kept to him, and he
uses nobody to talk to and let them out. He never tries to get to the root of his problems and work them out, but instead he isolates himself for
protection. The only one that can understand Holden is his sister Phoebe. Phoebe understand that Holden has bitterness towards himself rather than the
world. She understands his sadness and problems towards his life, and this can be understood because she is her sister, and we can judge that she
knows him well. At the end of the book, Phoebe want to go with Holden to the museum, because she understood that he needs her more than she needs
him. Another important theme is the painfulness of growing up. Holden feels insecure of growing up and the responsibilities that comes with them.
He wants to stay innocent, and not let the time pass. He wants everything to be easily understandable and eternally fixed. He is guilty of many of the
sins that the adults have, and he is not willing to pay for it. Also he does

Holden Caulfield Banned
Should The Catcher in the Rye be banned from being taught at high schools? J.D. Salinger wrote this novel about a 16–year–old named Holden
Caulfield. Holden is your not so average teenager. He is more of a "woe is me" kind of teenager. Holden has two siblings and one dead sibling He
goes to expensive private schools, but flunks out of them because he doesn't apply himself. The main part in this book is when Holden takes a three
day vacation in New York City to get away from Pencey Prep and to let his parents cool off after they get their letter about Holden flunking out of
Pencey. The vacation is only three days long, but seems to be a lot longer than three days. There are a lot of places in this book that are extremely
controversial.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Holden gets drunk multiple times in the book and he smokes quit a bit. Keep in mind, Holden is 16 years old and the drinking age limit is 18 back
in this time. He gets away with drinking illegally. His smoking is legal, but is not a good influence on sophomores in high school. This book makes
it seem like it is okay to do illegal things and to smoke. Smoking is unhealthy and no one should do it. Drinking illegally isn't okay and could lead to
bad things. This is also making it seem like it's easy to get away with undeage drinking.
The last controversial thing is Holden is constantly lying and using bad language. He says the f–word, goddam, hell, etc. so many times. He lies about
who he is, his name, where he's from, etc. He is making it okay to lie and cuss. Even if everyone does it, he does it so much it's not very good
influencing on high school students. He talks like a sailor which could lead people that look up to Holden, to start to cuss as well, just because
Holden does. More than likely, people are going to listen to and copy their idol. Say Holden is their idol, they will more than likely start copying what

How Is Holden Caulfield A Predictable Character
Change is difficult to adapt to. That is why many individuals have foreseeable actions, opinions, and thoughts. In the book The Catcher in the Rye by
J.D. Salinger and Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld, both Holden and Lee dislike change. In The Washington Post, during the review of Curtis Sittenfled's Prep,
they wrote, "Holden Caulfield would love this heroine." Holden would appreciate Lee's predictability in her actions. In The Catcher in the Rye by J.D.
Salinger, Holden appreciates predictable people. For example, Holden enjoys going to the museum (16). The reason is that every time Holden goes to
the museum, the placement of the artifacts will never change. This shows that he values stability. This means that Holden dislikes change because it...

For instance, "And this was it, the last time: I was retiring from cutting hair" (158). This shows that Lee is retiring from hair cutting because she
feels disgust towards Aspeth and Cross' behavior. They are flirting in front of her when she was cutting Aspeth's nasty, blond hair. Holden would
like Lee because she still cuts Aspeth's hair even though she dislikes her personality and the way she carries herself. Lee does not speak up and let
other people take control of her. Even though some of Lee's actions contradict Holden's personality, her predictability overrules all of the irony.
The reason is that Holden wishes that some of the people that he adores (Jane) will never change because if they do, they can hurt his heart and
wreck the love between them. "My hair desperately needs cutting" (164). This shows that Lee is predictable because after she vows that she will
never cut hair anymore, she cuts Ms. Moray's hair a few days after Aspeth's. She cuts Ms. Moray's hair so she does not let her down because she is
a person that always fulfills the needs of others before her own. Holden would like Jane because her actions and thoughts are predictable. He is a
person that appreciates stability because he likes people and things that do not change over a long period of

My Last Day
Last day with My Best friend You can never be certain about future. You can plan all you want but the truth is, if things are bound to fall, they will.
If something is supposed to happen, it will. There is no stopping to it. There comes certain time in life where things get messy in just matter of
hours. One moment you are singing, dancing and drinking with your friend and the next moment it all crashes down and you are left with nothing
but waves of regrets and self loathe. Losing my best friend in matter of hours was the worst experience I ever faced. Even though it broke me, as I
recovered I learned a lot about myself and my perspective changed.

festivities, Holi is my favorite festival. Holi is celebrated mainly in Nepal and India but it has spread to certain part of Asia. it is a festival of colors.
People throw colors at each other, drink and party. It is celebrated as victory of good over evil. It is a day where family reunite, friends enjoy by
painting everyone with Beautiful colors.
My best friend and I had a tradition since we were a child. Every Holi we two would get together and put color on each other's first. Call it childish or
love but that is how it was and we adhered to it since we were seven. March 3 2015 was the last Holi we celebrated

How the conquest of the Spaniards led to an impact on one of the world's largest empires. The Inca Empire, shortly after its beginning, fell under the
rule of the Spaniards but was still one of the world's ancient largest empires. It wasn 't until around 1400 that the Incas began to emerge as the
dominant regional polity . On the eve of the early 1530 's the Spanish invaded the Incas . However, the Incan rulers had just fought a civil war in which
Atahualpa, the emperor, had defeated his brother Huascar. Reasonably, the Incas were defensive towards those who approached the empire. Eventually

Last Day Of High School
The last day of my Early College High School (ECHS) 2017 year, was a day I will never forget. On the last day of school, I got to drive my dad's
truck; I remember telling myself I can't wait until I get my own car, which is something I asked for on my Christmas list to Santa. I went to classes
ready to get my last final over with. The day went by pretty fast after the test, then we went to lunch and then we had clubs. Since my club was not
allowed to go to the gym, I stayed inside with the Medical club. In the medical club, Cody gave a long presentation on the different Affordable Care
Acts (ACA) proposal, and we got into a debate which got me ready for the break even more.
At the beginning of the break, I was excited to be out of school, I had made so many plans. I made plans to go to Austin and go to the spray paint
park, and travel to Louisiana to celebrate my niece's first birthday, but all of my plans were ruined.
For the first week of my break, I was sick. I winded up catching both the flu and strep throat, I thought my Christmas break would be ruined, but it
wasn't. During the time that I was sick, I got to plan which Christmas gifts to get my family members instead of waiting until the last moment, and
everyone winded up loving their gifts. Due to the fact of me being sick, I couldn't go anywhere; which meant no chores, no being told to get out the
house; I actually had time to relax. While relaxing I caught on my Netflix shows and my sleep.

Catcher In The Rye Salinger's Legacy
He was a literary giant despite his really small body of works and reclusive lifestyle. His most famous and innovative novel, The Catcher in the Rye,
set a new course for literature in post–WW2 America and vaulted Salinger to the heights of literary fame. JD Salinger's Holden Caulfield, the main
character of his novel, is to the 20th century the unforgettably haunting voice of the adolescent at odds with a very troubling world. Holden is an
unhappy, rich and lost boy who has done a bunk from his posh secondary school, Pencey Prep, in Agerstown. Holden begins his first–person narrative.
Caulfield declares that he isn't going to tell us "about this madman stuff that happened to me around last Christmas just before I got pretty run–down".
Actually, that's just what he does, writing about three days in December 1949 when, having been expelled by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The difficulty in defining Salinger's legacy starts from his decades of exclusion after his last publication in 1965 and the obstinate hope of millions
that he continued to write for the next 45 years. We know that the author had an ironically he hadn't a penchant for Burger King and that he was
not above taking a bus tour of Niagara Falls. He loved ballet and he was enthusiastic about the ballet, reveling in a London performance of a
Balanchine presentation and Swan Lake at the OpГЁra de Paris. That same year, Salinger lamented that only two people had ever truly known him

Holden Caulfield In The Catcher In The Rye

  • 1. Holden Caulfield In The Catcher In The Rye Sultanov Felix Mrs. Maggert 5th hour English III November 1, 2016 [01 month 2016] The Bridge Uncrossed In the book The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, Holden Caulfield, the main character, Holden Caulfield, is faced between two realms so different, connected by an old ruggedy rope bridge in which he stands. Only accepting the past will he he will conquer his fear and cross to the other side in safe passage. Holden Caulfield is depressed and fears that he will not survive the transition from childhood to adulthood because he never got over the losse of his brother Allie. Holden's depression can be described as a shadow which surrounds him in his fears and turns it into sadness. A shadow in which he can't run away from, as it swallows him deeper in darkness. ... That's why the shadow of depression follows him. Now that Allie is gone, the good in the Holdens world left with him. Holden's view on art in museums explains this in a way which adds to his grief and depression. Art doesn't change but people's view on it does is how he described it. Holden also explained that everything was there stays where it is in museums, nothing moves, nothing changes. Holden doesn't want to move on, he doesn't want to change. Holden explains in chapter sixteen "Nobody'd be different. The only thing that would be different would be you. Not that you'd be so much older or anything. It wouldn't be that, exactly. You'd just be different, that's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The Last Day Of School It was the last day of school, Kaylee rode the bus home just as she does every other day. When she got home, the key to her house fell out of her hand and into a ditch. She couldn't find it, her brother helped search for the key but it was nowhere to be seen. Their mom wouldn't get off work for another two hours, so they had to sit outside in the hot sun waiting for her. She reached into her backpack to get her phone so she could call her mom. After she realised her phone wasn't in her backpack she decided to go sit under a tree for shade. After sitting under the tree for a while, the sun started to set. Their mom finally got home and they went inside. She told her mom that she had left her phone at school. Since it was summer break she couldn't go back and get it. Her mom told her that she wasn't getting another phone since she left it at school. Kaylee snuck out of the house to go get her friends. They never thought a teacher would still be at school at this time. For some reason none of them thought about how they would get inside of the school, the doors were locked, Kaylee threw a rock at the door and the glass broke. They all went ... • 3. Inhumanity In The Last Days Steven Spielberg's The Last Days is profoundly disturbing as it allows the viewer to see humanity's ability to disregard the thoughts and feelings of others through the eyes of concentration camp survivors–humanity's inhumanity. The five survivors The Last Days follows have eerily similar stories of disrespect, abuse, and neglect. It is hard to imagine that their experiences actually happened, that is how extreme the cruelty is. It started with small, overlooked changes. Tom spoke ofJews "losing their jobs, their businesses" before Germany had much influence over Hungary. Then, the situation progressed to the point where Irene recalled her "friends, people who were sharing things together, were suddenly hostile". However, once the Jews were ... Throughout Last Days of Summer, by Steve Kluger, the characters possess many characteristics that can help us in our everyday life, most importantly, patience. • 5. How Does Holden Grow Up In Catcher In The Rye Growing up can be scary for anyone. Some kids handle it better than others. Holden Caulfield, the main character in J.D salinger's book The Catcher in the Rye has a difficult time handling responsibilities and adult situations. Holden is afraid to grow up because he does not want to abandon his childish ways and start handling responsibilities as an adult. He is also a troubled 16 year old kid who tries to escape his problems instead of solving them. In the beginning, it was clear right away that Holden seemed to run away from his problems. In chapter 1 Holden says he was being kicked out of Pencey Prep, which is the school that he attended in Agerstown, Pennsylvania. He was flunking most of his classes which got him kicked out of the school. Then in chapter 8 Holden leaves Pencey in the middle of the night because he felt lonely and could not handle the "phony" people. Holden's idea was that he would stay in a hotel in New York, where he lived until his parents found out that he was kicked out of school. As a result of Holden being kicked out, he felt that his parents would be upset with him, considering that this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "I knew that whole museum routine like a book." (p70) Holden explained. He expressed that he loved that museum because he went there as a kid on class field trips a lot, and said it always looked the same, which was one of the things he enjoyed the most. He loved things that never changed. Holden remembers all the great things about the museum the way it looked, the smell, the quiet sounds from inside. It reminded him of when he was a child. Holden did not go inside the museum. Not even if someone was to pay him a million bucks. After all the memories of going into that museum every weekend, Holden did not want it to change. • 6. Loss Of Innocence In The Catcher In The Rye "The knowledge that makes us cherish innocence makes innocence unattainable."(Irving Howe Quote) The classic novel, The Catcher in the Rye, demonstrates this loss of innocence through a young boy's corruption of a poem by Robert Burns. The poem is titled "Coming Thro' the Rye" but the young boy misinterpreted one of the lines. Instead of saying "If a body meet a body, coming through the rye," the line from the original poem, he sang"If a body catch a body, coming through the rye."(Salinger 129) This mistake becomes a symbol for the loss of innocence that occurs when one grows up and continues to act as a metaphor for Holden's desire to protect all children from that fate. Both the song "Comin' Thro' the Rye," and the boy's alteration of it, serve to accentuate the theme of loss of innocence throughout the novel.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Holden is walking down the street when he overhears the young boy in front of him say "If a body catch body coming through the rye."(Salinger 129) The boy continues to sing this corrupted line but Holden pauses when he notices that the boy is not trying to please anyone but himself. The boy is completely happy just singing for himself. When Holden realizes this, he becomes less depressed and starts thinking. This leads to the next example, which is when Holden actually uses the song as a metaphor for the loss of innocence that occurs when one grows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Last Days Of Summer The last few days of summer are always unforgettable. As the school year draws near I find myself cherishing every moment of summer fun. Everyone is staying up late and sleeping all day, except for me. On this particular August morning, I was struggling to get up for my team's daily soccer practice. Once dressed I was actually feeling pretty excited about the day. The twenty–minute car ride flew by and Mom dropped Anna and I off at the soccer field. I stepped out of the car and the smoldering heat hit me like a freight train and I had to remind myself that practicing is for the best. I began putting on my socks and shin guards when several of my friends started showing up, one by one. I'm so relieved when my favorite people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not only was sweat dripping from my brow, it was dripping all over my weak body. I sat down and took my first sip water. That sip tasted like the most glorious pure ice water I had ever drank. Five minutes went by and resting was over. Luckily though a shooting drill came next. On my first shot I used great force and my laces to send the ball in. It flew up towards the very top right corner of the goal frame but my effort my not enough. The team goal keeper leaped with all her might, knocking the ball out of play and diving onto the ground making an unpleasant thud. Although it was a good shot, I felt defeated and as I got back in line, the frustration set in. I stepped up for my next shot brimming with determination and made the goal, my confidence restored. After a few more rounds of shooting we were given another water break. Time was passing and the humidity was rising. This time the water just tasted like any other water, but I was still satisfied. As practice was drawing towards the end, it was time for our last activity: scrimmaging. It's what I looked forward to almost every day. While coach began picking teams, I prayed my team wouldn't have to wear bibs. Of course we did, which is just my luck. The stench of the bibs was so bad it could have knocked me down. But as I pulled one over my head, I pretended it was a brand new blouse. I was so proud to be on the varsity team, I would've worn anything. Then I ran out to my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The book "Catcher in the Rye" is narrated by a sixteen year old boy named "Holden Caulfield". This teen adolescent is not like any other boy you will ever find, Holden is a sixteen year old teen going through the most difficult times of adolescence and is discovering that no one understands him. Holden is too complex for our understanding he speaks in his own vernacular as if not one thing or person can understand him. The story takes place mostly in New York after Holden flunks out of his prep school, "Pencey Prep". Holden travels to New York for three days before going back to his family. In New York Holden makes many harrowing experiences that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The book shows how the misunderstanding of one struggling teen adolescent can affect their very outlook on life. To many people Holden is negative, rude, depressed, etc. But once you try to put yourself in his shoes you realize that Holden is seeing how the world really is and he is showing that yes there are negative parts in life but there are also positive parts in life as well and how he knows why things happen for a reason from his brother Allie dying of Leukemia to seeing his loving kid–sister Phoebe. To me the book has it's rough spots and it's great spots, I like how the book starts out in first person when Holden says, "I'm not going to tell you my whole goddamn biography or anything." this gives you a quick first look at Holden's true character and how he speaks his mind with everyone. The book also has some bad parts such as when Holden starts to digress like when he mentions his brother Allie, his sister Phoebe, or his brother D. B. it starts to bore me when he goes into extraordinary detail about something that doesn't need to be covered that much. Overall I really enjoyed the book and the story ... Use Of Symbolism In "The Catcher In The Rye" and "The Great Gatsby" There are many writers like James Joyce, Patrick Kananach and Thomas Moore who use symbolism to convey and support indirect meaning in their writings. J.D. Salinger and F. Scott Fitzgerald both use symbolism in similar ways. In both "The Catcher In The Rye" and "The Great Gatsby", the authors used symbolism to convey emotions and reality. In "The Catcher In The Rye", J.D. Salinger uses Holden's red hunting cap, the exhibits at the Museum of Natural History and "kings in the back row" as symbols whose meanings help tell the story. Holden's red hunting hat stands for Holden's disapproval of adult society and phonies. Although, Holden and his hat are out of place in New... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fitzgerald also uses colors for symbolism. The color white is used many times in the story. The author uses white to describe Gatsby's clothes and his mansion. The color white represents Gatsby's innocence and pure heart. The color yellow is also used throughout the story as a symbol of corruption and death. The car that Gatsby drives was yellow and his yellow car killed Myrtle. The flower that Daisy is named after is white on the outside and yellow in the middle. Daisy seems innocent on the outside, but her real character is as corrupt and greedy as Tom's. Throughout "The Catcher In The Rye" and "The Great Gatsby", symbolism is used to paint mental pictures for the reader. The symbols used allow the reader to foresee the character's emotions, beliefs and values. Ultimately, the authors' uses of symbols make both novels more interesting and ... • 11. Analysis Of ' Last Days ' During Socrates' last days, he speaks with Cebes about the fate of the soul. Cebes is unconvinced that the soul doesn't die concurrently with the body, which leads him to create an alternative analogy. Cebes' imperfect analogy compares the body and soul to a cloak and a weaver, respectively. A cloak can be worn over and over again, which represents multiple human lives in a body. The weaver, however, outlasts each cloak until the last cloak dies. Cebes argues that because the weaver no long has a cloak to wear, he will die. This means that although thesoul may preexist and outlive a body, it too will eventually die. Therefore, if Cebes' analogy turns out to be more accurate and correct, then the soul is not immortal. Socrates, on the other hand, believes that the soul is immortal and looks to Forms to prove the soul's immortality. He provides a "safe answer" that helps the reader understand not only his argument, but Plato's argument and view of philosophy as well. In order to respond to Cebes' argument, Socrates discusses causes. As a young man, Socrates was interested in physical science. However, he grew uninterested in physical science because he believed the inquiry into nature and science blinded him from certain ideas that he found paradoxical. For example, he was dissatisfied by the idea that "two" can be achieved in multiple ways: adding together two items or dividing a single item into two parts (97a–b). Holden Caulfield, the protagonist of this novel, is in search of something in his life. Something that he can hold on to, someone to catch him. However, Holden cannot find what he is looking for in life, because everything he sees is phony. To him, the world is full of transparent people living transparent lies. Holden finds himself in the midst of a phony, greedy and destructive world, which he unsuccessfully tries to escape several times. In an attempt to protect himself from what he sees as the predatory nature of society, Holden surrounds himself and his mind with forms of escapism, but ultimately fails. Holden attempts to use physical and mental escapism many times throughout the novel. In the early chapters of The Catcher in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the final chapters of The Catcher in the Rye, Holden finally gets a glimpse of how to make things better. By protecting others, like his sister Phoebe, Holden is finally able to protect himself, in a way. As C.W. Trowbridge puts it in his article, "The catcher, in fact, wants to be caught, the saviour [sic] saved." (Trowbridge p. 688) Holden sees in Phoebe the very thing he is desiring to prevent from the children around him, a fall from innocence. • 13. Pompeii: The Last Day Pompeii: The Last Day Documentary Essay The documentary of Pompeii is a film that shows the story of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius and the devastating impact it had on the inhabitants of Pompeii and Herculaneum. The story highlights the event by emphasizing how the eruption only lasted for less than 24 hours and terminated by burying the ancient cities of the Roman Empire in ash. Although, the volcano remained inactive for many years, it was believed to be a mountain by its people. Thus, they were not prepared for an eruption that will later cause many deaths. Yet, a few years later, archeological evidence was found, which helped determine the cause of the eruption. Many signs such as: earthquakes, the drying of underground springs, and the ground rising up, indicated the possibility of an eruption, however, people did not understand the significance of this signs. As I have stated before, the volcano was inactive for approximately 1,800 years. This means, that the longer the time a volcano remains inactive, the more likely it is more stronger and deadly. • 14. Catcher In The Rye Songs Analysis The Catcher in the Rye is a very peculiar and depressing book. It is full of symbolism and has a lot of meaning. There are many songs that could fit this book well, but I think that there are twelve songs represent it best. These songs mostly represent Holden, because he is the main feature of the book. Of course, these songs all have to be the clean version since Holden freaks out about curse words. Like the book, these songs are also full of symbolism and meaning. The first song in the playlist is Jump Out the Window by Big Sean. The title is very relatable to the book since James Castle jumped out of his window and several times, Holden has thought to jump out of the window too. Now when you look at the lyrics, there is one part that says, "Remember when you used to come through and hit the Mario Kart, And you always picked the princess". This relates to when Holden is talking to Stradlater about Jane and how they used to play checkers back then and she would always keep her kings in the back row. Another part of this song that relates to Catcher in the Rye is "You cried on my phone the whole night that time he crossed the line yeah, yeah, yeah...And you told me never mind yeah, yeah, yeah." This also relates to when Holden was thinking about Jane in chapter 11. In this scene, Holden describes a situation when Jane's... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She appreciated Blair's efforts but wondered how on earth she'd manage a new gown suitable for such an occasion. The Duke's spring ball was considered the event of the season. The Regent might even put in an appearance. London's finest would be out in their most impressive jewels and costly gowns. This was not a playing field Elizabeth was prepared for. You can't! You've nothing to wear to the ball". "Then I'll have to stay home and risk Blair's wrath. Give me the card Marie". Marie half–heartedly handed it over her face a mask of disappointment. A mistress with neither youth nor funds was not worthy of her talents. The note read "Once in while a woman should have exactly what she wants exactly when she needs it, B". Tears formed in Elizabeth's eyes. The gratitude and appreciation of her friend's perceptive kindness overwhelmed her. "It's from Blair. She would brook no refusal and daren't try to return it. Let's withdraw to my bedroom and see how it looks. I do hope it fits!" It was too much. She was trembling with each parcel she opened. Marie was beside herself. One treasure was more glorious than the next. Blair had managed to even include some scandalous silk drawers and stockings with a note saying enclosed saying "Never under estimate the effect of silk on a woman's body". • 16. Examples Of Maturity In Catcher In The Rye There are certain qualities that define maturity, and they vary from person to person. Throughout the story, Holden Caulfield, the sixteen year old protagonist of "The Catcher in the Rye" by J.D. Salinger is slowly but surely becoming a mature, young boy. He battles through his teenage life because he is caught between two worlds; one of pure bliss and innocence, the other of a mature adult. As he aspires to be "the catcher in the rye", he wants all children to hold on to their innocence as long as they can because he feels the world is full of "phony" adults. 'I realized it was only one chance in a million–I was just interested, that's all'" (Salinger 60). Holden perceives himself as a duck trapped in the motionless water, a gloomy atmosphere where he does not belong nor fit into. Subconsciously, he may be searching for a "warm escape" like the ducks, because he feels he should have a chance to find his place in the world too. His motive for wanting a "great escape" is because he fears the idea of maturing into a young adult. He feels that adults are "phony's" and depreciate the values instilled in young children. Response : ' The Last Days Of Judas Iscariot ' David Do Professor Berger THEA 122–04 08 March 2015 Response: The Last Days of Judas Iscariot I was very curious as to what this play was going to be about, because when I first read the title, I was not able to make anything of it. Being someone who isn't religious, it was a refreshing take on a debatable concept. Before the reading the audience guide and seeing the play, I would have never in a million years though the play would be a religious debating stemming from the New Testament. I was very surprised to find out that the play was about a religious debate because I personally do not see this too often and I always thought that people tried to avoid anything that would cause a religious debate. The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, set in Purgatory, was thought provoking play about a man who has committed a great sin and the people who tried to explain that for an all forgiving greater divine power, why wasn't Judas Iscariot forgiven for his sins? "The Last Days of Judas Iscariot examines the plight and fate of the New Testament's most infamous and unexplained sinner." At first and for the longest time, id didn't know what to make of that sentence. But after having some time to think about the events that went on throughout the play, it stated to make more and more sense to me. Not only was Hitler's heart evil, but the fate of the world now hinged on the battle mistakes of an obsessed maniacal dictator. Despite recent setbacks on the battlefield, the war was far from over, and Hitler was totally convinced he was going to win the war. He devised a plan that he thought was sure to work: a surprise attack that "will push the Allied armies back across France and will allow Germany to regain control of Europe" (O'Reilly 9). The fact that the Allied Forces lacked gas for their tanks, bullets for their guns; food, and proper clothing energized Hitler into thinking that his plan might just work (O'Reilly 24). Additionally, the Germans moved their troops to locations where the US lines of defense were the thinnest and the weakest due to the woods and where German soldiers outnumbered Americans troops two to one (O'Reilly 30). In places like the Ardennes Forest in Luxembourg, Americans were outnumbered five to one. The Americans and Allied Forces became depressed; yet they knew they had "to hold the line at all costs. Because if they don't, Hitler's crazy gamble in the Ardennes just might succeed" (O'Reilly 48). • 21. Character Analysis Essay On The Catcher In The Rye Holden Caulfield, the protagonist and main character of The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, seems to have many dislikes and much fewer likes about life, as a whole. In many situations throughout the book, Holden seems to have negative thoughts about every little thing. From his school, Pencey Prep, to movies or actors; even to the word "grand," Holden seemingly holds a distaste in just about anything that crosses paths with him. However, further into the novel, it becomes apparent that one of the causes Holden holds dearest to his heart is to keep the innocence of children for as long as possible. Holden wants to be the "catcher in the rye" because one of the things he loves is young kids and the catcher saves them. Holden didn't seem to care about much in the world, but near the end kids seemed to be what he adored most. He cared about them and knew what to do to take care of them. "The thing with kids is, if they want to grab for the gold ring, you have to let them do it, and not say anything. If they fall off, they fall off, but it's bad if you say anything to them." (Salinger, 211) From this quote Holden is explaining to us how to interact with kids. He is saying let them fail at something so they can learn the lesson rather than telling them ... The main characters are Gordie: a troubled individual lacking parental affection due to the loss of his brother, Chris: an introspective, abused child labeled being a "bad boy" (Stand by Me), he is also Gordies best friend, Teddy: the slightly crazy wild card with an abusive father, and Vern: the outcast of the group who no one pays much attention to. In many ways, the story is more about what the characters discover along the way than what they find at the end and their growing up is accelerated by lessons they learn about life and death. This story is centered more on the boys in a path way between their childhood and adulthood. As the four friends make their way through junkyards and leech–infested watery areas and along railroad tracks, they learn things about their inner thoughts. It is the fire that has burned in man's heart since the dawn of civilization; a cunning tactician smiling to himself as humanity wins its battles. Purpose has driven us from the first fire to the final frontier; it is the father of civilization. Humanity advanced, quickly. With basic survival and a functioning society fulfilled, civilization sped up. Distances became shorter, entertainment became quicker, and life became busy. With life moving quickly, man lost time to think. And without thought to fuel it, purpose became sparse and unfulfilled. Mankind, in their vanity, began to attempt to eradicate the need for purpose. Society became shallow. It pressed upon its youth, its future, mindless norms disguised as purpose. College, careers, and retirements were laid out ahead of them, whereupon the latest generation began to goose–step into misery. Before long, midlife crises began to arise at ages as early as 16, a harrowing thought. Absent among all this anguish was purpose; 401(k)'s would not bring meaning to one's life, nor would a management level position in a startup on the rise. Life was no longer about the means, but rather the ends. Consequently, joy became not an experience, but a material. Kids seem to be a lot more school oriented as well as more inclined to strive for success than kids were 40 years ago. • 29. Holden Caulfield Relevant Today Many consider The Catcher in the Rye to be the most poignant and popular story of adolescence in American literature. Reading reviews, examining the public reception, and uncovering depths of research would evidence this well. However, the value of the novel rests not in its popularity–a simple sign of its inherent value–but in its ability to resonate truth. More than merely telling a story, Salinger creates a relatable life through the actions and attitudes of his ornery adolescent character Holden Caulfield. Even though Holden can be annoying and the setting of the novel dated, his perspective of the world makes The Catcher in the Rye just as relevant to Australian teenagers today as it was back in 1951 when first published. During his meeting with his history teacher Mr Spencer, before Holden leaves Pencey, he explains why he left Elkon Hills. He attributes, "One of the biggest reasons I left... was because I was surrounded by phonies. They were coming in the god damn window...Mr Haas... was the phoniest bastard you've ever seen." (pg. 12) Holden's reference to the adjective phonies is the first of many references to people who he sees as fake, superficial and lacking authenticity. Naming the principal, an adult in a position of authority as a 'phony' coupled with a derogatory insult such as 'bastard' indicates his negative and critical view of those who he sees as fake, particularly adults. This view makes the novel resonate with so many teens today. Moreover, his scepticism of 'phonies' is eptimized in his description of his brother D.B – he tells the reader that "now [D.B] is out in Hollywood... being a prostitute. If there's one thing I hate, it's the movies," (pg.1). Through the first person narration and the language choice of the noun prostitute it is clear that Holden views Hollywood as the center of superficiality – a world where nothing is genuine or real. The strong language choice of the verb 'hate', illustrates Holden's negative views of this aspect of the adult world. This scepticism of a lack of authenticity in the world makes the novel relatable to a contemporary audience. A Forbes article entitle Authenticity: The Way To The Millennial's Heart, outlines "that authenticity can be considered to be one of the ten values regarded as most essential to youth." As teenagers our world view is influenced by technology and social media. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram– the plethora of social media has made it easier to fake it. The Author of this novel fully achieved to create a character that can connect to the reader, and that the reader ends up loving it. Something about his beliefs about his surroundings, and his vivid way of expressing it, makes him connect powerfully with readers who come from backgrounds completely different from his. The main character is mainly the character of the author. The author decided to put a character that is like him. Life has been harsh with Holden, and Holden feels "Trapped on the other side" Isolating himself in a way makes him believe that he is better than everybody else, and also to show that he is no phony, that he is unique. Because of this isolation, he never has this human love or human interaction. All his problems are kept to him, and he uses nobody to talk to and let them out. He never tries to get to the root of his problems and work them out, but instead he isolates himself for protection. The only one that can understand Holden is his sister Phoebe. Phoebe understand that Holden has bitterness towards himself rather than the world. She understands his sadness and problems towards his life, and this can be understood because she is her sister, and we can judge that she knows him well. At the end of the book, Phoebe want to go with Holden to the museum, because she understood that he needs her more than she needs him. Another important theme is the painfulness of growing up. Holden feels insecure of growing up and the responsibilities that comes with them. He wants to stay innocent, and not let the time pass. He wants everything to be easily understandable and eternally fixed. He is guilty of many of the sins that the adults have, and he is not willing to pay for it. Also he does ... • 31. Holden Caulfield Banned Should The Catcher in the Rye be banned from being taught at high schools? J.D. Salinger wrote this novel about a 16–year–old named Holden Caulfield. Holden is your not so average teenager. He is more of a "woe is me" kind of teenager. Holden has two siblings and one dead sibling He goes to expensive private schools, but flunks out of them because he doesn't apply himself. The main part in this book is when Holden takes a three day vacation in New York City to get away from Pencey Prep and to let his parents cool off after they get their letter about Holden flunking out of Pencey. The vacation is only three days long, but seems to be a lot longer than three days. There are a lot of places in this book that are extremely controversial.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Holden gets drunk multiple times in the book and he smokes quit a bit. Keep in mind, Holden is 16 years old and the drinking age limit is 18 back in this time. He gets away with drinking illegally. His smoking is legal, but is not a good influence on sophomores in high school. This book makes it seem like it is okay to do illegal things and to smoke. Smoking is unhealthy and no one should do it. Drinking illegally isn't okay and could lead to bad things. This is also making it seem like it's easy to get away with undeage drinking. The last controversial thing is Holden is constantly lying and using bad language. He says the f–word, goddam, hell, etc. so many times. He lies about who he is, his name, where he's from, etc. He is making it okay to lie and cuss. Even if everyone does it, he does it so much it's not very good influencing on high school students. He talks like a sailor which could lead people that look up to Holden, to start to cuss as well, just because Holden does. More than likely, people are going to listen to and copy their idol. Say Holden is their idol, they will more than likely start copying what he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. How Is Holden Caulfield A Predictable Character Change is difficult to adapt to. That is why many individuals have foreseeable actions, opinions, and thoughts. In the book The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger and Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld, both Holden and Lee dislike change. In The Washington Post, during the review of Curtis Sittenfled's Prep, they wrote, "Holden Caulfield would love this heroine." Holden would appreciate Lee's predictability in her actions. In The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, Holden appreciates predictable people. For example, Holden enjoys going to the museum (16). The reason is that every time Holden goes to the museum, the placement of the artifacts will never change. This shows that he values stability. This means that Holden dislikes change because it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, "And this was it, the last time: I was retiring from cutting hair" (158). This shows that Lee is retiring from hair cutting because she feels disgust towards Aspeth and Cross' behavior. They are flirting in front of her when she was cutting Aspeth's nasty, blond hair. Holden would like Lee because she still cuts Aspeth's hair even though she dislikes her personality and the way she carries herself. Lee does not speak up and let other people take control of her. Even though some of Lee's actions contradict Holden's personality, her predictability overrules all of the irony. The reason is that Holden wishes that some of the people that he adores (Jane) will never change because if they do, they can hurt his heart and wreck the love between them. "My hair desperately needs cutting" (164). This shows that Lee is predictable because after she vows that she will never cut hair anymore, she cuts Ms. Moray's hair a few days after Aspeth's. She cuts Ms. Moray's hair so she does not let her down because she is a person that always fulfills the needs of others before her own. Holden would like Jane because her actions and thoughts are predictable. He is a person that appreciates stability because he likes people and things that do not change over a long period of ... • 34. My Last Day Last day with My Best friend You can never be certain about future. You can plan all you want but the truth is, if things are bound to fall, they will. If something is supposed to happen, it will. There is no stopping to it. There comes certain time in life where things get messy in just matter of hours. One moment you are singing, dancing and drinking with your friend and the next moment it all crashes down and you are left with nothing but waves of regrets and self loathe. Losing my best friend in matter of hours was the worst experience I ever faced. Even though it broke me, as I recovered I learned a lot about myself and my perspective changed. Being a Hindu girl we have many festivals and celebrations throughout the years and I wholeheartedly celebrate each and every festival. Among all our festivities, Holi is my favorite festival. Holi is celebrated mainly in Nepal and India but it has spread to certain part of Asia. it is a festival of colors. People throw colors at each other, drink and party. It is celebrated as victory of good over evil. It is a day where family reunite, friends enjoy by painting everyone with Beautiful colors. My best friend and I had a tradition since we were a child. Every Holi we two would get together and put color on each other's first. Call it childish or love but that is how it was and we adhered to it since we were seven. • 35. My Last Day Of School Summer The last day of school was a good day. Instead of having to take an ELAR exam, we did PSP. On the last day I had ELAR for 4th and 5th period. I didn't have to do anything. Since we didn't have to take a test we got to play games and mess around. The day went by really slow, but I was fine with that. I was having fun messing around and playing board games with my friends. At last, I heard the bell ring. I walked outside of the classroom and heard a lot of noise. Everyone was so excited that school was over. People were chanting things such as, "FREEDOM! FREEDOM!" and 'SUMMER! SUMMER!" After school, I went to Top Golf with my friends. I had a blast and then went back to my friends house and swam. The next day was my birthday party. My friend, Grant, and I have birthdays around the same time, so we decided to have a birthday party together. I was turning 13 and Grant was turning 14. I had my birthday party at a place called Group Dynamixs, it is a big indoor area where you can play a ton of different games/sports and do indoor ropes courses. I had a lot of fun, but I was super tired after. The next days of summer went by pretty slow which was good. It seemed like each day was 48 hours. A month later, time started to go by a little bit faster. I felt like July decided to have 25 days instead of 31 days. I went to Austin, Texas from 7/1/17 to 7/6/17 which was fun. I go to a place in Austin called Lakeway every year with my family. The hotel is on Lake ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Last Day Of School School is all about working and learning, so having a fun part in it is pretty rare. But no matter what we do or when we do it at the end of the day there is always a time of fun.Well, mines start out pretty chaotic. There was sweat all over my forehead I could feel the sun burning my skin cells as pounded into the black doors of the school.I could feel the positivity everywhere and happiness on the faces of the hot sweaty students. You might be wondering why?It was the last day of school no more homework, test, quizzes, and classwork.By this time I was walking up the stairs into homeroom.Thankfully I had a nice teacher and for the last day, he let us do whatever we wanted.I know right sounds like it's been forever since someone said that! I slapped myself as I sat on the hot greasy set to make sure that is wasn't a dream.I ran to my friend and I could see the excitement on their faces. All I knew at that point was the day was gonna be a great day.We went on to play some card and we're just wanted to enjoy the time we had left together. We played a variety of card games, like spit, signal, spoons, and others. We all were so grateful for having time to play with each other before at the least day.It was our last chance to spend quality time as a family. At the moment I forgot about the winning and all I cared about was spending time with the people I cared about and that was the best part of it all.Playing and looking at the happy faces made me feel good about myself. The ... • 37. The Last Days Of The Incas The Last Days of the Incas: How the conquest of the Spaniards led to an impact on one of the world's largest empires. The Inca Empire, shortly after its beginning, fell under the rule of the Spaniards but was still one of the world's ancient largest empires. It wasn 't until around 1400 that the Incas began to emerge as the dominant regional polity . On the eve of the early 1530 's the Spanish invaded the Incas . However, the Incan rulers had just fought a civil war in which Atahualpa, the emperor, had defeated his brother Huascar. Reasonably, the Incas were defensive towards those who approached the empire. Eventually when the leader of the Spanish conquest Francisco Pizarro along with a force of 167 men came along, they clashed with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 38. Last Day Of High School The last day of my Early College High School (ECHS) 2017 year, was a day I will never forget. On the last day of school, I got to drive my dad's truck; I remember telling myself I can't wait until I get my own car, which is something I asked for on my Christmas list to Santa. I went to classes ready to get my last final over with. The day went by pretty fast after the test, then we went to lunch and then we had clubs. Since my club was not allowed to go to the gym, I stayed inside with the Medical club. In the medical club, Cody gave a long presentation on the different Affordable Care Acts (ACA) proposal, and we got into a debate which got me ready for the break even more. At the beginning of the break, I was excited to be out of school, I had made so many plans. I made plans to go to Austin and go to the spray paint park, and travel to Louisiana to celebrate my niece's first birthday, but all of my plans were ruined. For the first week of my break, I was sick. I winded up catching both the flu and strep throat, I thought my Christmas break would be ruined, but it wasn't. During the time that I was sick, I got to plan which Christmas gifts to get my family members instead of waiting until the last moment, and everyone winded up loving their gifts. Due to the fact of me being sick, I couldn't go anywhere; which meant no chores, no being told to get out the house; I actually had time to relax. While relaxing I caught on my Netflix shows and my sleep. The week before ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Catcher In The Rye Salinger's Legacy He was a literary giant despite his really small body of works and reclusive lifestyle. His most famous and innovative novel, The Catcher in the Rye, set a new course for literature in post–WW2 America and vaulted Salinger to the heights of literary fame. JD Salinger's Holden Caulfield, the main character of his novel, is to the 20th century the unforgettably haunting voice of the adolescent at odds with a very troubling world. Holden is an unhappy, rich and lost boy who has done a bunk from his posh secondary school, Pencey Prep, in Agerstown. Holden begins his first–person narrative. Caulfield declares that he isn't going to tell us "about this madman stuff that happened to me around last Christmas just before I got pretty run–down". He loved ballet and he was enthusiastic about the ballet, reveling in a London performance of a Balanchine presentation and Swan Lake at the OpГЁra de Paris. That same year, Salinger lamented that only two people had ever truly known him as person: his son, Matthew, and his beloved dog, Benny, the dog that Salinger had brought home from Germany in 1946 and who had died nearly thirty years before.
