Tropical Weather Systems
The hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30 each
year. During this period conditions in the atmosphere and in
oceans are ideal for the development of these violent storms
which may reach the strength of a hurricane.
Categories of Storms
A depression is a tropical system with winds that have reached a
constant speed of up to 34 miles per hour.
A tropical storm is a tropical system with winds that have
reached a constant speed of between 35 to 73 miles per hour.
A hurricane is a tropical system with winds that have reached a
constant speed of more than 74 miles per hour.
