Superintendents face unprecedented challenges guiding schools through social upheaval, technology changes, new policies, and decreased funding. As a result, effectively sharing best practices with stakeholders has never been more important for student achievement. Responsibilities have shifted from facilities and transportation to creativity, collaboration, communication and critical thinking. Studies show problems from improper data management, curriculum analysis, and human resources use, including privacy concerns and lack of community support. Redefining return on investment as return on value is an opportunity for superintendents to participate in strategic budgeting and use next-generation data management, though it also presents new administrative challenges.
