1. Dear North Central Community,
As you may know, North Central's annual Anti-Hate Week is next week, October 25-29.
Our kickoff event is a screening of the film Anatomy of Hate: A Dialogue to Hope with a
talkback from director Michael Ramsdell. It has come to our attention through a recent
press release that the controversial Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) intends to protest
this film on North Central's campus. The WBC have claimed that they would protest this
film at other schools in the past, but they did not show.
After an immense reaction to a student-led response on Facebook, college faculty and
staff have expressed their overwhelming support for our movement. All students, faculty,
staff, alumni, and friends of North Central are invited to participate in a mass
demonstration to share our simple message - We are North Central: We Love. This is not
a counter-protest against the WBC; this is our vision of the world we want to live in.
Whether or not the WBC shows, our movement will be heard. Here is the event schedule:
Sunday, Oct. 24th
7:00 PM - Meet at 116 Brainard St. to discuss our vision lay the groundwork.
7:30 PM until the last person leaves - Create banners, signs, armbands... anything that
conveys love and unity.
Monday, Oct. 25th6:00 PM - Gather at Koten Chapel/Kiekhofer Hall.
6:15 PM - Proceed to Meiley-Swallow Hall to raise our voices, sing, dance, LOVE!
7:00 PM - Watch and discuss Anatomy of Hate in Meiley-Swallow and overflow
locations as needed.
On Monday we are asking all students to wear Red with Purple armbands! The armbands
will be given out Sunday as well as Monday in Koten Chapel, but please provide your
own red shirt!
We want to reiterate that this is OUR movement. The student body's incredible spirit and
determination is driving it. We will gather as one community on Monday and raise our
voices on behalf of love, not hate.
