The UM Department of Theatre Arts presents a play that confronts the
prevalent and relevant issues of cyber bullying, gay bashing and suicide.

UM Pride Network, an undergraduate LGBTQ student organization,
hosts a weekly meeting where LGBTQ students can socialize, network
and discuss important topics in a safe and welcoming environment.

The documentary “L Word Mississippi: Hate the Sin”
highlights stories of the LGBTQ community in Mississippi
and the struggles it faces living in the Deep South.

The Department of Student Housing is screening films
centered on LGBTQ issues at various residential hall
locations, dates and times. The films being shown include
“To Wong Foo,” “Paris Is Burning” and “The Birdcage.”

PFLAG seeks to educate the public about LGBT community members,
advocate on their behalf, and support them and their families.
Furthermore, PFLAG lends support for parents of LGBT youth as
they work through the challenge of letting go of assumptions about
their children and instead love and support them as they are.

Associated Student Body will host a town hall-style discussion
about the recent Supreme Court decision legalizing marriage
equality and the effect it has locally, regionally and nationally.

Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Oxford
presents:
Rhonda Thomason
11 a.m.-noon
Rhonda Thomason will talk about her experiences working
with the Southern Poverty Law Center and Human Rights
Campaign. Her experiences are centered around LGBTQ
issues. This service will be in honor of Coming Out Day.

National Coming Out Day: Door Project
Student Union
11 a.m.-1 p.m.
The Department of Student Housing, working in collaboration
with the Center for Inclusion & Cross Cultural Engagement,
Sarah Isom Center, William Winter Institute, Pride Network and
other organizations, celebrates National Coming Out Day and
provides resources in support of the LGBTQ community. The
theme of going out the door is symbolic of the “coming out”
process that individuals of the LGBTQ community experience.
Pieces of Me: Performance by Mykel
Nutt Auditorium
4-5:30 p.m.
New York City musician, singer and performer Mykel tells
the story of how he dealt with what life has thrown his way,
including having 35 different roommates in a one-bedroom
railroad apartment and an assault that nearly ended his life.

The LGBTQ Alphabet Soup: Sexual
Orientation, Identity, and Gender

Noon-1 p.m.
An honest and insightful discussion about sexual orientation and
gender identity, along with its terminology, and its implications
on the LGBTQ community and society as a whole.
UM Allies Training for Faculty and Staff

4-7 p.m.
Training for faculty and staff centered around gaining knowledge and
having the option to become certified allies of the LGBTQ community.

The Beekeeper: Performing Black
Southern Women Who Love Women
Studio Theater at the Gertrude C. Ford Center
7 p.m.
This lecture/performance is based on oral histories of black southern
women who desire women. Johnson will discuss some of the
methodological challenges of being a man conducting research
on women as well as cover some of the topics that he found to be
common among many of the women he interviewed. In addition,
Johnson will perform excerpts from some of the oral histories.
