„Famous mathematician”
Jan Śniadecki
2. Jan Śniadecki was a Polish mathematician,
philosopher, astronomer and geographer
He was born on August 29, 1756. He died on
November 21, 1830
3. He studied in Kraków, Göttingen and Paris.

Later, the scholar became a staunch opponent of the
Jesuits, seeing their educational activities as a source
of darkness and backwardness.
4. He developed Polish mathematical and astronomical
terminology. He became the author of a textbook on Algebra.
5. Son of Jędrzej, a local brewer and farmer who
previously served as a village administrator, juror,
senior brewers' guild and mayor, and Franciszka née
Giszczyńska.
6. They lived in the very center of Żnin, right next to the
market square, at Śniadeckich Street, "under four",
there is a two-story tenement house. The plaque on
the front informs that the Śniadecki family house
stood in this place.
8. In recognition of his services in Lithuania, in 1812 he
was appointed the only non-aristocratic member of
the Commission.
He proposed the construction of an astronomical
observatory in the botanical garden in Krakow.
