The costumes are very important in this music
video as in many alternative rock music video
the band are usually in cloths that are similar but
in these video they are all in costume as they are
all dressed up as old men with mask and wigs.
These shots also show the band preforming and
playing there music which is a huge conventions
of rock as it show the band can play the
instruments and this is like seeing them live. I
think this shot is very important as lighting is a
huge convention of the alternative rock genre as
it sets a mood and an atmosphere to the video
as in this video most of the light is coming from
huge windows so it creates a hard shadows all
over the everyone making certain feature stand
out more.There is also a blur added to the
camera and its effect so this could mean it is
trying to imply the idea that the old people are

3. Andrew Goodwin – relationship between
lyrics and visuals
In this part of the video you have the man
jumping and as this is done the lyrics “we
run we run we run” as this builds up the
tension for the change in the song as it
make it feel more meaning full. In the
other picture it is a picture of all the old
people fighting and biting one of the staff
members and the lyric said is “In another
perfect life” this is very cleaver as they
have used old people for a reason as it
means more as it almost like the people in

This video start of slowly as the song start
soft and mellow but as the beat starts to
rise more tension and the camera shots
are quicker and when the music gets heavy
for the first time at the same time this man
jumps from the wooden structure behind

video pick up in speed as the shots are
quick and the edits are fast.Then it goes
back to a slower tempo in the chorus so

I think this shot is very important as
the record label would want lots of
close up of the frontman singing in a
music video so when people watch the
videos they understand and know who
the singer is so it gives it an image.This
goes against this as even thought this
is a close up of the singer he has make
up on to make him look old so the idea
that this isn’t actually the singer so this
might not go with what the record
label want.

When the man is climbing the
tower everyone is staring at him
so the notion of looking is the
idea that everyone is looking at
him doing this so this is the idea
of a typical rock video as they are
looking at the band and the
excitement going on.

This is concept based but it also has performance in it as it has a idea
and it has an intro before with speaking in it which is unlike a lot of
alternative rock videos as this video was made to stand out, show the
band off but also be fun and interesting.
