This document summarizes air route concepts in Indonesia, including conventional ATS routes which rely on ground-based navigation aids and have limited design flexibility, and performance-based PBN routes which utilize satellite-based waypoints and allow more direct, efficient routing. PBN routes provide benefits like improved safety, cost savings, increased capacity, and environmental friendliness. The document also discusses user preferred routes which allow operators to plan more efficient routes, as well as free route and free flight concepts. Sources for the information are listed at the end.
2. ATS Route
ATS route atau biasa disebut juga rute
konvensional adalah rute yang dibangun
berdasarkan alat bantu navigasi di darat
(Ground based navigation aids /NAVAIDs).
Pesawat yang melewati rute ini harus
terbang diatas NAVAIDS / intersection 2
NAVAIDS.
Akurasinya tergantung jarak pesawat
dari/ke NAVAIDs.
Protection Area semakin jauh dari
NAVAIDs semakin lebar.
Fleksibilitas desainnya sangat terbatas.
3. Performance Based Navigation (PBN) Route
Rute yang dibuat berdasarkan alat bantu GNSS
(satellite)
Rute ini mengambil konsep : AREA NAVIGATION
Pesawat yang terbang melewati rute ini nantinya
akan melalui “WAYPOINTS” yang
merujuk pada Ground NAVAIDS / GNSS (satellite).
Rute ini memanfaatkan kemampuan pesawat
untuk mempertahankan posisinya sendiri
(Performance-Based).
Protection Area Linear (Konstan)
Desain sangat fleksibel
4. 1. Improve safety
a. Reduces Controlled Flight into Terrain (CFIT)
b. Consistent predictable flight paths
c. Stabilized Approach Paths
2. Improves Operting Returns
a. Reduces fuel costs
b. Reduces investment in ground systems
c. Reduce time in flight through more direct routes
3. Increases Airspace Capacity
a. More efficient direct routes
b. Reduces airspace conflict
4. In environmentally Friendly

6. User Preferred Route (UPR)
A User Preferred Route is a routing
generated by aircraft operator that is
filed in an aircraft’s FPL which allows
the aircraft to flight plan the most
efficient route for their flight, taking
into consideration wind speed and
direction, turbulence, temperature,
aircraft type and performance.
Based on Free Route Concept
FREE ROUTE ≠ FREE FLIGHT
7. FREE FLIGHT
FREE ROUTE
A specific airspace within which
airspace users may freely plan a
route between a defined entry
point and a defined exit point
without referring to the ATS
route network, subject to
airspace availability.
Free flight is a developing air traffic control
method uses no centralized control (e.g.
ATC). Instead, parts of airspace are
reserved dynamically and automatically in
a distributed way using computer
communication to ensure the required
separation between aircraft.
8. 1.Direct Route
•Direct entry to exit
•Via intermediate point
