Dr. Joshua Sullum is an ob-gyn in New York who provides prenatal care, obstetrics services, and well-woman visits. In addition to his medical practice, he advocates for the National Council of Jewish Women, which supports the Dream Act to create citizenship opportunities for immigrants who qualify for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. Established in 2012, DACA protects immigrants who came to the US as children from deportation, but its future is uncertain as some states are threatening to sue President Trump to end the program. The Dream Act aims to protect DACA and provide citizenship for its participants.
2. As an ob-gyn in New York, Dr. Joshua Sullum provides personalized and attentive care with
a focus on prenatal care, obstetrics, abnormal pap smears, and well-women visits. Outside
of treating patients through his private practice, Dr. Joshua Sullum supports the National
Council of Jewish Women (NCJW). The NCJW maintains an active role in advocating for
the Dream Act, which creates opportunities for immigrant students who receive citizenship
under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
Established in 2012, DACA protects immigrants from deportation if brought into the country
as children, enabling them to become US citizens and pursue their educational, familial,
and career goals. Immigrants must meet a series of criteria in order to participate in the
program, such as arrival into the country prior to their 16th birthday and continuous
residency since June 15, 2007. The program also applies to students with a high school
diploma or GED certificate, as well as honorably discharged veterans of the Coast Guard or
US Armed Forces. Furthermore, all applicants must have been under the age of 31 when
the program went into effect on June 15, 2012.
Immigration tensions have put the DACA program at risk, with 10 US states threatening to
sue President Trump unless he eliminates the program. The Dream Act arose to protect the
DACA and provide a path to citizenship for participants of the program.
