However, a recent breakthrough in the form of an injectable drug promises to offer these patients a non-surgical solution to help them in their quest for chin fat reduction.

A Possible New Way to Reduce Chin Fat

Introducing ATX-101
Newresearchinthe fieldof fatreductionwaspresentedatthe Annual Meetingof the AmericanSociety
for AestheticPlasticSurgery(ASAPS) inApril.StevenH.Dayan,a doctor inChicago,Illinois,presented
data fromclinical trialsof the drug.He stated,“Anunfavorable profile canmake people lookolderand
heavier,negativelyaffectself-esteem,andcannotusuallybe significantlyalteredbydietorexercise.We
are excitedtopresenttrial resultsonthispotential first-in-classsub-mental contouringinjectable,
which,if approved,couldofferphysiciansandtheirpatientsanon-surgical optiontoeliminate fatunder
the chin,resultinginathinnerandmore contouredprofileandjawline.”
Patientswhoreceivedthese injectionstoassistwithchinfatreductionnotedthat,afterreceivingthem,
theirchinareas lookedthinnerandmore youthful,especiallywhencomparedtopatientswhohad
receivedthe placebotreatmentoptionduringthe trial period.Around80% of those whowere injected

2. withthe ATX-101 experiencedaone grade or more improvementinthe cliniciansub-mental fatratings,
regardlessof age,gender,BMIor race. Afterreceivingtwoormore treatments,71.5% of candidates
noticedsignificantchinfatreduction.
Little Or No Side Effects
Notonlydidpatientsexperience substantial fatreductionintheirchinareas;itwas alsonotedinthe
trial that veryfewside effectswereexperienced.More than80% of the candidatesreportedthatthe
side effectstheyexperiencedcouldbe classifiedasmild,withonlyalittleover1% of patients
discontinuingtheirtrialsasaresultthereof.The mostcommonlyreportedsideeffectsincluded
numbness,pain,swellingandbruisingatthe site of the injections,of whichmostpatientsstatedthat
these effectsdiminishedafterhavingthe firstroundof treatment.
How ATX-101 Works
Thisdrug isa proprietaryformulationof apurifiedsyntheticversionof deoxycholicacid,a naturally-
occurringmolecule whichisable tohelpbreakdownfatinthe body.Wheninjectedintothe chinarea,it
destroysthe fatcellspresentthere,whilealsocontouringthe chin.ATX-101has been evaluatedin
double-blind,placebo-controlledandrandomizedclinical trialsthroughoutthe USand Canada,which
involvedmore than2,500 people whosufferfromexcessive fataroundtheirchins.
Withthe resultsof these studieslookingaspromisingasthis,patientswhoare embarrassedbytheir
double chinsmaysoonhave a more viable alternative to plasticsurgery.If yousufferfromanymedical
