SUMMARY:
As a biology teacher, I was wondered how could I made a lesson for a teenagers,
finding the relationship between art, cells and technology?
1st. Question: Are the cells beauty?
2nd. Question: How can I obtain real cells 'images and what do the technology offer to
the scientists in order to watch cells?
3rd. Question: can we compare paintings and cells 'micrographs? Are they similar?
Concerning technology we have a very important tool: confocal microscopy is an
optical imaging technique for increasing optical resolution and contrast of a micrograph
by means of adding a spatial pinhole placed at the confocal plane of the lens to
eliminate out-of-focus light. It enables the reconstruction of three-dimensional
structures from the obtained. The "fluorescence microscope" refers to any microscope
that uses fluorescence to generate an image, whether it is a more simple set up like an
epifluorescence microscope.
Conclusions:
• The cells are really beauty
• We find in the science a way of art
• Some artists (specially painters) are inspired by a microscopic forms of the life
• What is the border between art and science?
• Can we consider the scientists as an artists or vice versa?
• The life ( including microscopic forms) is a source of inspiration for the artists
I proposed them to do a big cell with the different parts and organelles as a painting or
as a collage .
You need:
• A big card DINA 3 or similar
• Scissors
• Glue, adhesive
• Watercolours, oil, colour pencils, or something else.
• Organelles models
The final product have to reproduce an authentic cell, but they have to achieve A
MASTERPIECE WORK of an artistic way.
We organized a competition about what was the best cell and the more artistic
masterwork between them.
