The Purpose of a BIA 
As Mandated by the Municipal Act 
• to oversee the improvement, beautification and 
maintenance of municipally owned land, buildings and 
structures in the area beyond that generally provided at the 
expense of the municipality 
•to promote the area as a business and/or shopping 
destination.
Vision Statement 
To advocate for members of a thriving Downtown Brantford, 
as a destination that typifies all that is excellent in an urban 
environment; a safe, fun, and economically successful 
community; with dense commercial, residential, and cultural 
activity.

  4. The Downtown Brantford BIA Downtown Brantford is a Dynamic Place to Live, Work, Play and Learn. We have moved as a community to a critical point in our revitalization efforts. The community is engaged in what is happening in Downtown Brantford, from many different viewpoints: Heritage Post-Secondary Political Infrastructure Taxpayers Walkability Waterfront/Environment Athletics and Recreation Social Services So many eyes, ears, opinions and stakeholders are engaged in efforts to improve this community. The DBBIA lobbies, beautifies, promotes, develops networks, financially supports events and activities, advocates, plans, and communicates with its membership and within our community and with our partners and City Council. Our BIA Annual Report will outline the significant activities that the Board has undertaken, and link our planned activities in 2012 to our Strategic Plan, as it moves into its fourth year of implementation.

Downtown Champion of the Year Award The Downtown Brantford Business Improvement Area is a not-for-profit organization representing more than 200 businesses and 150 properties in the heart of Brantford. Each year, the DBBIA Board of Management celebrates its achievements and lays out its plan for the year ahead at its Annual General Meeting, typically held in November. Each year, the BIA Executive awards the Downtown Champion of the Year to recognize dedication and commitment to developing community within the Downtown BIA. Past Award Winners: Keri Korfman, Tim Horton’s (Bus Terminal) 2009 John Bradford, City Councillor, Ward Five, 2010 Dwight Rose, OK Tire & Auto, 2011 Lucas Duguid, Octopus Red & Sophia’s Bakery, 2012   The BIA Executive considers nominations of individuals or community groups that: Have served on the Board for a minimum of one term (four years) OR; Has executed an event within the DBBIA boundary within the past calendar year OR; Has attended at least one Board meeting as a member of the public;   AND   Actively promotes Downtown Brantford as a live, work, play and/or learning destination.
