1. Asian Development Bank-Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP)
at the Graduate School of Interna onal Development (GSID), Nagoya University, Japan
The Graduate School of Interna onal Development (GSID) o ers ADB-JSP in a two-year master’’s
program (April admission).
Scholarship Coverage:
Economy airfare, tui on fees, living allowance, medical insurance, and book and research
subsidy
Eligibility Requirements: Prospec ve applicants must:
-be a ci zen of a developing member country,
-have a bachelor’’s degree or its equivalent from an accredited university, and have
completed 16 years of formal educa on or equivalent educa on,
-have at least two years of full- me working experience,
-be not more than 35 years old at the me of applica on,
-have the following minimum and valid English test scores: overall TOEFL score of 550
(paper-based), 213 (computer based), or 79 (Internet-based); a TOEIC score of 730; or an
IELTS score of 6.0,
-not live or work in a country other than his/her home country.

This program is divided into two
elds——Governance, and Law and
D e v e l o p m e n t —— o n e o f w h i c h
students choose. In the Governance
eld, students study the role of
governments, NGOs and community
organiza ons in development. In the
Law and Development eld, students
study issues in law and poli cal,
economic and social development, as
well as those related to law and
interna onal coopera on.
In this program of Peacebuilding, we
will inves gate the root causes of
conicts and wars on poli cal,
economic, social and cultural
dimensions. We will also examine the
func ons and the limita ons of
various interna onal ins tu ons such
as UN-related organiza ons and of
interna onal laws and conven ons,
partnerships between the UN
organiza ons and NGOs. In addi on,
we will look at contemparary trends
of refugees and human right issues,
gender inequality and peacebuilding,
democra za on and preven on of
the recurrence of conlicts.
In this program, students will learn
about a wide range of social
development research or projects,
such as community development,
poverty allevia on, migra on and
development, and quality of life
improvement based upon
understanding of society, history,
culture, tradi on, gender, and
geography in developing countries.
Master’’s Program for ADB-JSP at GSID
Founded in 1991, GSID aims at developing human resources that will play an ac ve role in the eld of
interna onal development, coopera on and communica on. ADB-JSP is o ered in the Department of
Interna onal Development (DID) and the Department of Interna onal Coopera on Studies (DICOS).
With English as a language of instruc on, students are rst given a thorough grounding in the
founda ons of development studies. They then deepen their knowledge through one of the following
six specialized programs they select.
