German Shepherd Research Paper
Since 1899, German Shepherd dogs have been highly prized for their loyalty, bravery and
intelligence. From the very first registered German Shepherd, Horand von Grafrath–––an
exceptionally intelligent, agile dog with instinctive herding ability–––came a breed standard that has
been preserved for over a century through careful selective breeding. These characteristics,
combined with an easygoing yet eager demeanor, have made German Shepherds popular world wide
as service dogs and faithful companions.
Origin
The originator of the German Shepherd breed was Cavalry Captain Max Emil Frederich von
Stephanitz. While attending a dog show in Germany in the late 1800s, a herding dog named Hektor
Linksrhein caught the captain's attention. Intelligent and strong with innate herding ability,
endurance and agility, Hektor had many of the qualities Stephanitz had been searching for in a

Because of anti–German sentiment during World War I, it was feared that the name German
Shepherd would not be looked upon favorably. In 1919, the English Kennel Club gave the breed a
separate register and changed the name to the Alsatian, after Alsace, a region in France. In 1977, the
British Kennel Club authorized the breed's name to be changed back to the German Shepherd Dog.
Evolution
Around 1925, a trend toward the breeding of squarish, over–sized dogs with less than stable
temperaments alarmed Stephanitz and he realized that changes needed to be made. In 1925,
Stephanitz selected Klodo von Boxberg, a shorter, longer bodied dog with a lengthy gait, as world
champion. This dog would become the catalyst for changes, a sire whose qualities Stephanitz
wanted to see passed along in subsequent generations. Klodo was imported to America that same
year and became an influential sire of German Shepherds dogs in North

Animal Domestication History
Looking back at the history of animal domestication, dogs were the one of the first animals to be
victimized. Evidence dates back to about 15,000 years ago. Even in the early ages, dogs were
deemed as sincere guardians and hunters. They have played a vital role in the history of warfare
starting from ancient times.
Dogs were used by Egyptians, Persians, Slavs, Romans and Greeks. The Molossus dog was thought
to be the most powerful dog by the Romans and underwent intense training for war. The Romans
and Greeks exploited dogs for the purpose of defense. During the Late Antuquity, Atilla the Hun
used Molosser dogs. The Spanish conquerors of Mexico and Peru in the 16th century used armored

and longer strides while maintaining stability. The claws attached to their feet help them to gain
speed and have a firm grip on the ground. War dogs have a sharp sense of hearing which can go up
to as far as 35,000 hertz. One of the essential qualities that dogs have is their loyalty. They are
always defending and protecting their handlers. Working dogs possess the ability to detect change in
the environment and react to it accordingly. The are able to detect those changes that human beings
are unable to, making them more efficient and reliable. They are trained to act as an alarm for any
sort of incoming danger. Patrol dogs are aggressive dogs that attack the provoker and relentlessly
bark to warn the people nearby. Explosive dogs have an acute sense of smell and hence are trained
to differentiate between the various explosives and drugs. The tradition of use of military dogs is
still alive in the modern world. As of 2011, 600 police dogs took part in the war in Iraq and

Purpose Of Advertising In Advertising
Advertisements come in all shapes and forms; billboards, commercials, signs, prints...etc. Yet, they
all have one thing in common: to spread a message. The sole purpose of an advertisement is to not
only inform their target audience, but to make their audience carry out an action. These actions can
range from buying a specific product, eating healthier, or helping those in need. The advertisements
i've chosen are print ads. Both ads share the same purpose; the prevention of animal and domestic
abuse. These two images focus on the rhetorical device pathos; the term pathos is defined as
emotion. Though, different, the two images are highly effective in sending their message: report
animal and domestic abuse. Through imagery, color schemes, and key phrases; which inform the
audience and hopefully prevent the situation.
In some cases, advertisements like to rely solely on imagery to spread their message. The first image
on top depicts a german shepherd. The german shepherd relatively looks young as if it's a view
months old. Additionally, the german shepherd is looking off into the distance almost as if it's in
high alert. This is because whenever we imagine a german shepherd, we automatically assume:
guard dog. German shepherds are well known for their unconditional loyalty, intelligence, and
protection. Which is why this ad personally makes me feel safe and protected. By including the
german shepherd looking off into the distance, fuels the sense of tranquility and

Descriptive Essay: The First Vietnam War
The Waste It was about 11am when Lloyd woke up this hot summer day. He heard far away
gunshots echoing over the landscape. He didn't jump as he was used to this type of noise, everyday
people were fighting for their lives from the dangers of the land. He had dark blonde hair and one
blue eye and one brown. Most of his face was scarred from all the fights he had been through He lay
at the edge of a field on a small hill covered with foliage, blocking him from being seen by anyone
or anything at least 30 yards away. He laid there and stared off into the field. The grass was brown,
dying, and short to the ground. There was a crater from a bomb in the field, but next to it there was a
broken down Jeep flipped on one end at the center of the field. Feeling curious, Lloyd got up and
walked in a crouch position to the Jeep. He opened the green, rusty door and was surprised when the
door fell off the hinges on top of him. He quickly gathered himself and pushed the door off thankful

Theme Of In Cuba By Ana Menendez
The way in which an exile attempts to figure out and achieve familiarity a new country is the way
that cultural encounter is treated in Ana Menendez' short story "in Cuba I was a German shepherd.
The main character, as we will show below in the following paragraphs, employs his previous
knowledge and applies it to the new, unknown country he arrives at for the purposes of finding a
place for himself. Reading the story shows clearly that the author was aware of the theme of cultural
encounters as we will illustrate below. The jokes are employed successfully by the author in her

Speech For Benevolent Parents
My benevolent parents. First off, I would just like to say thank you. You guys are as unbelievable as
a chicken driving a motorcycle through a hoop on fire. You have given everyone a awe–inspiring
life and have given us everything and anything we have ever asked for and desired. You have made
my life as easy as reciting my ABC's. Thank you for giving us the best childhood. Thank you for
loving all of us unconditionally, and loving me a bit more. Thank you also for giving me the proper
tools to succeed in life. Finally, thank you for supporting us throughout our lives and for the
continued support in the future. Now, since in a couple more years I will be heading off to the next
big step in my life, college, I know that both of you guys are going to miss me since I won't be home
for long periods of time. Mom will definitely miss me and call me but Dad will call me like once
every week. He is a strong individual, like father, like son. Since all of this would happen I was
thinking that we should expand our family. However, when I say expand our family I don't mean
getting a baby, I mean we should acquire a Canis lupus familiaris. In laymen's terms, we should
procure a German Shepherd. Now, I understand that you have disliked the topic and will sigh in
disbelief that I'm bringing it back up. However, if we were to get a puppy, then I believe it would be
good for us. I have brought together many justifications of why obtaining a pup is helpful. A baby
hound gives you company on those lonely days and a dog's company would be satisfying. Dogs
would also help you in making new friends and getting to know the neighborhood and the people in
the neighborhood. Also, getting a big protective dog, such as a trained German Shepherd would
keep you as safe as possible and would risk its life for you. So you know that dogs are the best pets
for you.
You will gain an extra companion. I understand that when I go to college, most of your children will
never be home. I will be at college, and the rest will be working. So when you miss me, because I
know you will, then our kind, and loving dog will be there for you. Getting a dog will also mean that
there will forever be a furry, friendly, playful friend at home. He will always be

The German Shepherd Dog Essay
German Shepherd Dog
The German Shepherd is not only one of the world's most popular companion dogs, but also
probably the most widely used breed for service work. The development of the German Shepherd
Dog, along with a number of existing breeds, helped pioneer the modern use of dogs for service and
community work that we can see today. For a breed of dog that has only been officially recognised
for just over 100 years, it has made an outstanding contribution to mankind worldwide.
The origins of the breed came from various sheep dogs found in Germany during the last century. In
the second half of the 19th century, dog breed fanciers began to fix the type of sheep dog found in

The success of guide dogs has since been proven worldwide. The United States also later formed a
Seeing Eye Dog School using German Shepherds. This occurred in 1929 in the US State of New
Jersey. Although the Labrador retriever does the majority of guide dog work in Australia, the
German Shepherd remains one of the most popular choices for this type of work worldwide.
During the 1920's, canine movie stars such as Rin Tin Tin and Strongheart made the breed extremely
popular outside of Germany. Great harm was caused as unscrupulous breeders, keen to cash in on
this newfound popularity, introduced poor breeding practices which, along with some irresponsible
owners, worked against the founding principles of the breed.
Anti German sentiment following the First World War, caused the British to re–name the breed as
the Alsatian Wolf–Dog. Although all dogs are thought to have evolved from wolves, the name
Alsatian Wolf–Dog led some people to believe the German shepherd had been directly bred from
wolves. The truth is that the German shepherd carries no more wolves' blood than any other breed.
The year 1925 saw the breed's official Australian history begin with the importation of Crufts
winner Ito of Fallowdale into Australia. Also on the same boat was Pinkerton Rhoda. As a number
of further importations followed, graziers and pastoralists in Australia began to express concerns
that the breed was dangerous. This was partly based on the

Persuasive Essay About Animals
As I walk into the Homeward Animal Shelter for my dog walking shift, I think of the reason I began
my weekly volunteering. I want to give love, in any way I can, to the animals who have been left by
the ones they love. These animals that I spend an hour and a half with every Sunday need to know
that someone loves them. That they have not been forgotten about and that it gets better. After
spending the summer with my Aunt Renae and Uncle Chris and watching their newest rescue dog
open up to be after three years, I learned that. For a dog that was abandoned by his family and left
on the street, bounced between the shelter and temporary homes, he has finally found permanent
love in our family.
Snoop's journey into our family began when his owners abandoned him and his little Chihuahua
brother on the side of the road. They fended for each other for days until they were brought to the
pound. From there they were separated. Where the little Chihuahua went is unknown, but Snoop,
being a pure bread German Shepherd, was taken to the Missouri German Shepherd Rescue
(MOGS). His white coat made him easy to love, but after the treatment of his last family he did not
easily trust others. Once Snoop had come out of his shell, not so sheepishly hiding from the shelter
staff, he was moved into a foster home. There in the foster home he started to become the dog my
family knows today. Living with another Shepherd helped him feel more comfortable and reassure
him that their foster mom Lisa

Background and History
German Shepherd Dogs are a superb breed. There are various other names for this dog such the
Alsatian which is the main alternative name in the US and Western
Europe.
German Shepherd dogs are a natural progression from the wolf. At the end of the
18th century there were several types of dog vaguely similar in appearance to the
German Shepherd of today but not a clearly defined breed. In fact these dogs would be thought of
today as some sort of mongrel cross. By 1870 a more distinc– tive breed began to emerge in
Germany although this still did not resemble the modern German Shepherd. These dogs were bred
from existing working sheep herding dogs and they were required to have stamina and to be able to

Why Pit Bulls Are Bad
Everyone has a favorite animal as well as a animal that they can not stand. Some animals are used
for special jobs. For instance police officers use German Shepherds to help them find drugs they call

things that could hurt someone. Most people think pit–bulls are bad because of other people's
opinions. Pit–bulls should be given a chance.
People using pit–bulls for dog fights is a problem today. People like to make money. Using a pit–

Dogs only do what their owners tell them to do. If you want them to protect your home and your
children, that is exactly what they will do. If you want them to attack on command, they will listen.
However, they could attack someone without being commanded to do so which could cause a
problem. Pit–bull have a reputation based on how majority of their owners have taught them. They
do not have a good reputation. They were only trying to please the ones who they thought loved
them. They did not know what they were doing was wrong. They thought attacking people is what
they were supposed to do. The owners just let them be punished as a breed. They attack anyone
from a baby to an adult. It is not what they meant to do. It is only what they have been taught to do.
It is not too late to save the breed. They can change but people need to focus on the main problem
and it is not the dog. Pit–bulls are not the only breed that will attack. You have to provoke or
command them to do so. If they do not have a good reason to attack you that is a problem and it
should be handled by authority. You should not handle the situation by yourself because it can cause
severe injuries. Most of the time it is the owner's fault that the dog attacked someone. This can be

German Shepherds vs. Rottweiler
According to Krishna Ramanujan, dogs were first domesticated between 9,000 and 34,000 years ago

that make them much more than that. They also make great friends. Two of the most popular dog
breeds are German Shepherds and Rottweilers. German Shepherds and Rottweilers both have
qualities that make them great for families.

They also have the size and the power that makes for a great guard dog. These attributes are among
many of the reasons that families love having either of these two dogs as pets. Both dogs are also

A Veteran Banned From Military Housing
Doberman Pinschers and German Shepherd dogs mark 100 years with the AKC. Both German
Shepherds and Dobermans were the Devil Dogs in WWII (Mahood). Both dog breeds have given
years of service to the military. Both dogs have been faithful loyal companions and incredibly
intelligent. Both dogs are ranked in the top five for obedience and working intelligence ("Dog
intelligence rankings"). Yet, the German Shepherd is currently the military police's working dog and
its veteran companion, the Doberman Pinscher, is currently banned from living in military bases.
How is breed banning fair or even effective? In January 5th 2009, the Department of the Army
released a memorandum announcing a new pet policy for families living on military base ... Show

U.S. Army Veterinary Command (VETCOM) and the American Veterinary Medical Association
(AVMA) as well as many other organizations, believe that breed bans are not the answer and is an
inadequate solution to reducing dog bite fatalities on military installations. They believe that "a
comprehensive approach versus breed bans is a more realistic method of controlling dog bites within
a community" (Rolfe). Banning breeds is a knee–jerk response that is inappropriate and ineffective.
Any breed can be dangerous; there was a case where a Dachshund was involved in killing an 87–
year–old woman ("2005 dog bite fatalities"). This policy assumes that all dogs of a certain breed is
considered dangerous and will bite, instead of acknowledging that most dogs will not. Another issue
is breed identification. According to the memorandum, the dog will be not be allowed if officials
think it looks like one of the banned breeds. That makes the policy unfair even to dogs that are not
from the so called "dangerous" breeds. For example, a Labrador–Boxer mix, the result looks a lot
like a Pit Bull, but are in no way related. Or certain black and tan Labradors that look like
Rottweilers. The deciding factor is not breed, it is ownership. Irresponsible ownership in the form of
poor care, neglect, etc. results in a potentially dangerous dog. Irresponsible owners will just get a
dog that is not banned

The Bama Boys : A Long Time Ago
The Bama Boys
A long time ago, someone must have blessed me with the curse of, "May you live in interesting
times". I have never really had a boring time, even when I tried. I helped run our family jewelry
business for 30 very good years, had the bonus of living with both my parents and grandparents in
one house for many years, and I know I can turn this 2–3 page essay into 10–13 pages, easily. Out of
all my craziness, the best memory, other than my daughter, would be when my husband brought
home our two "foster" dogs from Alabama. Which gave us five dogs in total, Pink (she is a Dutch
Shepherd and Randall's service dog), Gibson (my male German Shepherd puppy, he was very
protective of me and maybe training for k–9), Telsa (our other German Shepherd female, she was
training for search and rescue) and then Chance and Tyson.
In April of 2013, my husband Randall went to Alabama to help a fellow dog trainer with her
rescue/dog–training compound. About two years before this county in Alabama were hit by a
tornado and they were still rebuilding the compound for training and finding homes for the stray
dogs that were brought to her. Therefore, Randall drove to Alabama, with two of our German
Shepherds. He was not planning to be back home for almost a year. Well, when got there to the
compound, Red, the owner, had placed roughly ten dogs in his charge.
Randall would send me videos of what he was doing with the dogs, especially two very special

"That 's Cesar, he 's probably one of the most playful." the man stated. He talked to my dad as if he

As we walked around the same corner that Cesar just recently tore around, two teenage girls came

leaning against the counter in the kitchen, and the other was playing with Cesar using a ball toy.
Thump! Thump! Thump! The ball slammed around all over the kitchen floor. Cesar trailed right
behind, following the toy and slamming into everything the ball did. Cesar was making a smiling
face and his tail was going a hundred miles an hour, slamming into everything in its radius. The girl
sitting on the floor with the toy asked me, "Do you want to try?" I replied hesitantly, "Sure." I was to
little to have any memories of our first dog Wiley, so this was the biggest dog I could remember

Hero Dogs: A Soldier's Best Friend
Deep Bonds
When the average American hears the words "Man's best friend" a single image may pop in their
brain. This image includes a wagging tail, usually a wet nose, and a happy friend whenever their
human walks into the door. Although this may be the typical image, these friends, also known as
dogs, can take on a much more serious role. These roles include police dogs and military dogs.
Michael Paterniti, a writer for National Geographic, took the time to write about the dogs in war and
their trainers in "Hero Dogs: A Soldier's Best Friend". He takes Jose Armenta's life in the military
and recreates it on paper. Armenta, who was a Corporal in the Marine Corps, was a dog handler
serving in Afghanistan in 2010. Throughout Armenta's career, he worked with a German Sheppard
named Zenit. Zenit and Armenta went through years of training with each other to reach the final
goal of being able to search and find IED's, improvised explosive devices, in the heart of war. On
the day that both Zenit and Armenta found their first IED's in an actual war environment, there was
a mishap and Armenta lost both of his legs from the knee down. After years of rehabilitation and
attempting to get back Zenit in his guardianship, Armenta was successful in 2012. Armenta now
lives happily in San Diego, alive, with his dog, and as a soon to be dad. Throughout this article
about Armenta and Zenit, the author covers the appeals of persuasion thoroughly and precisely.

Step Guideline Of A German Shepherd
The German shepherd is a very upright dog breed with outstanding working capabilities. These dogs
are able to perform long hours of physical exercise without portraying signals of excessive fatigue.
They are mostly used as guard dogs, police dogs, therapy dogs and also search and rescue dogs.
This breed is also one of the most admirable family pet dogs simply due to its variety of adorable
traits. However, owning a German Shepherd Dog comes along with a huge obligation to train it. It is
paramount that the owner shall at least demonstrate basic obedience with their dog.

The chief purpose of leash training your dog is to stop them from pulling on the leash as it not only
makes the whole idea of walking a dog disappointing but also encourages the unpleasant behaviors
he has. Generally, it's far easier to leash train a puppy than an older dog but it can be done in both
cases, the latter demanding a little more patience. Below is a comprehensive step by step guideline
towards a successful German shepherd leash training.
1. Choose the correct collar
Leash training German shepherd dog should begin with selecting an appropriate collar and placing it
onto your dog's neck. Be sure to purchase a standard leather collar that is not too tight as we don't
intend to hurt or strangle them. Next, try wearing it while the dog is absent–minded; maybe playing
with one of his toys or eats. Allow him to get used to it and don't relieve him even if he tries to
scratch it off or dislodge it. Instead, wait until he forgets about it and then take it off.
2. Let the Dog get used to the leash
Next, attach a leash to the collar and allow your dog to run freely with it around the house. The dog
needs to comprehend the fact that there is an unfamiliar item attached to his neck and he cannot do
any much about

abnormal formation of the hip socket causing a painful arthritis in the joints; it is a polygenic trait
affected by environmental factors. Elbow dysplasia is caused by abnormal growth of cells, vague

This study was done with 843 German shepherd dogs, because German shepherds are the largest
purebred dog population in Europe with an estimated 35% prevalence for CHD (large number for
phenotypic and genetic variance). Within the total of 843 German shepherds only 405 were males
and 438 were females. The control was the birth season; only dogs born between 2000–2005 were
included in this study. In the study, they used radiographs, CHD scores, and EDTA–blood samples
for all the dogs from the official guidelines of the Federation Cynologique International (FCI). CHD
scores were scaled by CHD–A being normal hip joints, CHD–C having slight signs of CHD, CHD–
D with moderate signs, and CHD–E had severe signs of CHD. Only 277 out of 843 were CHD–A
classified as unaffected and 557 were CHD–C, CHD–D, or CHD–E classified as affected for the

This grab is strong and hard. There is always a large possibility that the suspect/criminal can/will be
bitten if they attempt to fight off the dog but when thinking about it even the dog "gripping" onto the
suspect will inflict a bite. They would not be able to hold the suspect as well if they did not apply
pressure into their grip. Before any dog has to be turned loose, they try to intimidate the person first
by giving them a warning that if they start to run, the dog will be released and will chase after them.
A barking tactic is also used to scare the person into not running away. Even in a case where the
officer and dog seem to have the upper hand, there are many situations where the tables can be
completely turned. Both the officer and the dog are trained to work together as a team. They must be
able to fully trust and understand one another especially when they are placed in extremely
dangerous and stressful situations. It is the responsibility of the officer the dog is being handled by
to only use the dog when the situation absolutely calls for it. Any other way would be very
inappropriate and would be a terrible miss use of the animal. Not being responsible could also put
the dog in more of harm's way which can take a definite turn for the worst.

Descriptive Essay About Love
Finding Love
As I walk into the Homeward Animal Shelter for my dog walking shift, I think of the reason I began
my weekly volunteering. I want to give love, in any way I can, to the animals who have been left by
the ones they love. These animals that I spend an hour and a half with every Sunday need to know

In 1919, the English Kennel Club gave the breed a separate register and changed the name to the Alsatian, after Alsace, a region in France. In 1977, the British Kennel Club authorized the breed's name to be changed back to the German Shepherd Dog. In 1925, Stephanitz selected Klodo von Boxberg, a shorter, longer bodied dog with a lengthy gait, as world champion. This dog would become the catalyst for changes, a sire whose qualities Stephanitz wanted to see passed along in subsequent generations. • 9. Purpose Of Advertising In Advertising Advertisements come in all shapes and forms; billboards, commercials, signs, prints...etc. Yet, they all have one thing in common: to spread a message. The sole purpose of an advertisement is to not only inform their target audience, but to make their audience carry out an action. These actions can range from buying a specific product, eating healthier, or helping those in need. The advertisements i've chosen are print ads. Both ads share the same purpose; the prevention of animal and domestic abuse. These two images focus on the rhetorical device pathos; the term pathos is defined as emotion. Though, different, the two images are highly effective in sending their message: report animal and domestic abuse. Through imagery, color schemes, and key phrases; which inform the audience and hopefully prevent the situation. In some cases, advertisements like to rely solely on imagery to spread their message. German shepherds are well known for their unconditional loyalty, intelligence, and protection. Which is why this ad personally makes me feel safe and protected. Now, since in a couple more years I will be heading off to the next big step in my life, college, I know that both of you guys are going to miss me since I won't be home for long periods of time. Mom will definitely miss me and call me but Dad will call me like once every week. He is a strong individual, like father, like son. Since all of this would happen I was thinking that we should expand our family. However, when I say expand our family I don't mean getting a baby, I mean we should acquire a Canis lupus familiaris. In laymen's terms, we should procure a German Shepherd. Now, I understand that you have disliked the topic and will sigh in disbelief that I'm bringing it back up. However, if we were to get a puppy, then I believe it would be good for us. I have brought together many justifications of why obtaining a pup is helpful. A baby hound gives you company on those lonely days and a dog's company would be satisfying. Dogs would also help you in making new friends and getting to know the neighborhood and the people in the neighborhood. Also, getting a big protective dog, such as a trained German Shepherd would keep you as safe as possible and would risk its life for you. So you know that dogs are the best pets for you. You will gain an extra companion. I understand that when I go to college, most of your children will never be home. I will be at college, and the rest will be working. So when you miss me, because I know you will, then our kind, and loving dog will be there for you. Getting a dog will also mean that there will forever be a furry, friendly, playful friend at home. The development of the German Shepherd Dog, along with a number of existing breeds, helped pioneer the modern use of dogs for service and community work that we can see today. This occurred in 1929 in the US State of New Jersey. Although the Labrador retriever does the majority of guide dog work in Australia, the German Shepherd remains one of the most popular choices for this type of work worldwide. During the 1920's, canine movie stars such as Rin Tin Tin and Strongheart made the breed extremely popular outside of Germany. Great harm was caused as unscrupulous breeders, keen to cash in on this newfound popularity, introduced poor breeding practices which, along with some irresponsible owners, worked against the founding principles of the breed. Anti German sentiment following the First World War, caused the British to re–name the breed as the Alsatian Wolf–Dog. Although all dogs are thought to have evolved from wolves, the name Alsatian Wolf–Dog led some people to believe the German shepherd had been directly bred from wolves. The truth is that the German shepherd carries no more wolves' blood than any other breed. The year 1925 saw the breed's official Australian history begin with the importation of Crufts winner Ito of Fallowdale into Australia. Also on the same boat was Pinkerton Rhoda. As a number of further importations followed, graziers and pastoralists in Australia began to express concerns that the breed was dangerous. This was partly based on the ... U.S. Army Veterinary Command (VETCOM) and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) as well as many other organizations, believe that breed bans are not the answer and is an inadequate solution to reducing dog bite fatalities on military installations. They believe that "a comprehensive approach versus breed bans is a more realistic method of controlling dog bites within a community" (Rolfe). Banning breeds is a knee–jerk response that is inappropriate and ineffective. Any breed can be dangerous; there was a case where a Dachshund was involved in killing an 87– year–old woman ("2005 dog bite fatalities"). This policy assumes that all dogs of a certain breed is considered dangerous and will bite, instead of acknowledging that most dogs will not. Another issue is breed identification. According to the memorandum, the dog will be not be allowed if officials think it looks like one of the banned breeds. That makes the policy unfair even to dogs that are not from the so called "dangerous" breeds. For example, a Labrador–Boxer mix, the result looks a lot like a Pit Bull, but are in no way related. This test was done mostly to ensure that the animals would respond in the testing situation and a measure of the dogs' learned response from their previous training. This learned response because of the association of the consequence that comes about due to the animal's interaction with the object the pulling of the training rope, which should cause a generalized rope pulling response to other ropes that they are presented with during testing. All of the animals in this test had at least one correct trial for this test. • 62. The Bama Boys : A Long Time Ago The Bama Boys A long time ago, someone must have blessed me with the curse of, "May you live in interesting times". I have never really had a boring time, even when I tried. I helped run our family jewelry business for 30 very good years, had the bonus of living with both my parents and grandparents in one house for many years, and I know I can turn this 2–3 page essay into 10–13 pages, easily. Out of all my craziness, the best memory, other than my daughter, would be when my husband brought home our two "foster" dogs from Alabama. Which gave us five dogs in total, Pink (she is a Dutch Shepherd and Randall's service dog), Gibson (my male German Shepherd puppy, he was very protective of me and maybe training for k–9), Telsa (our other German Shepherd female, she was training for search and rescue) and then Chance and Tyson. In April of 2013, my husband Randall went to Alabama to help a fellow dog trainer with her rescue/dog–training compound. About two years before this county in Alabama were hit by a tornado and they were still rebuilding the compound for training and finding homes for the stray dogs that were brought to her. Therefore, Randall drove to Alabama, with two of our German Shepherds. He was not planning to be back home for almost a year. Well, when got there to the compound, Red, the owner, had placed roughly ten dogs in his charge. Randall would send me videos of what he was doing with the dogs, especially two very special dogs. These two dogs were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

"But I want to know now!" whined my little brother. My brother was only five years old, and had the attention span of a fly. When we stopped, my brother had already fallen asleep, and probably forgot about the whole thing. By the time that we got to our destination, it was already dark and it was hard to make out what was across the street. We walked up the cracked driveway of a house, and turned onto the brick pathway leading up to the front door. There were vines climbing up the side of the house, sprawling in every direction looking like a spider web. There were neatly trimmed bushes, all across ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "That 's Cesar, he 's probably one of the most playful." the man stated. He talked to my dad as if he knew him. Are they friends? I wondered. They seemed to talk like they knew each other from a long time ago. As we walked around the same corner that Cesar just recently tore around, two teenage girls came into view. Both seemed to be either Juniors or Seniors in High School. One of the teenagers were leaning against the counter in the kitchen, and the other was playing with Cesar using a ball toy. Thump! Thump! Thump! The ball slammed around all over the kitchen floor. Cesar trailed right behind, following the toy and slamming into everything the ball did. Cesar was making a smiling face and his tail was going a hundred miles an hour, slamming into everything in its radius. The girl sitting on the floor with the toy asked me, "Do you want to try?" I replied hesitantly, "Sure." I was to little to have any memories of our first dog Wiley, so this was the biggest dog I could remember being around. When I started to play with Cesar, I forgot all about being nervous. Cesar was running all over, and it was so funny I completely forgot about my fear. "Do you want to see the other ones?" asked the man. "Sure. Let 's go check them out." replied my

  • 67. Hero Dogs: A Soldier's Best Friend Deep Bonds When the average American hears the words "Man's best friend" a single image may pop in their brain. This image includes a wagging tail, usually a wet nose, and a happy friend whenever their human walks into the door. Although this may be the typical image, these friends, also known as dogs, can take on a much more serious role. These roles include police dogs and military dogs. Michael Paterniti, a writer for National Geographic, took the time to write about the dogs in war and their trainers in "Hero Dogs: A Soldier's Best Friend". He takes Jose Armenta's life in the military and recreates it on paper. Armenta, who was a Corporal in the Marine Corps, was a dog handler serving in Afghanistan in 2010. Throughout Armenta's career, he worked with a German Sheppard named Zenit. Zenit and Armenta went through years of training with each other to reach the final goal of being able to search and find IED's, improvised explosive devices, in the heart of war. On the day that both Zenit and Armenta found their first IED's in an actual war environment, there was a mishap and Armenta lost both of his legs from the knee down. After years of rehabilitation and attempting to get back Zenit in his guardianship, Armenta was successful in 2012. Armenta now lives happily in San Diego, alive, with his dog, and as a soon to be dad. Throughout this article about Armenta and Zenit, the author covers the appeals of persuasion thoroughly and precisely. Paterniti covers the appeals by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 69. Step Guideline Of A German Shepherd The German shepherd is a very upright dog breed with outstanding working capabilities. These dogs are able to perform long hours of physical exercise without portraying signals of excessive fatigue. They are mostly used as guard dogs, police dogs, therapy dogs and also search and rescue dogs. This breed is also one of the most admirable family pet dogs simply due to its variety of adorable traits. However, owning a German Shepherd Dog comes along with a huge obligation to train it. It is paramount that the owner shall at least demonstrate basic obedience with their dog. A fact we all need to acknowledge is that German Shepherds are quite huge and strong dogs and you do not want it to drag you when you take it for a walk around the block. You ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The chief purpose of leash training your dog is to stop them from pulling on the leash as it not only makes the whole idea of walking a dog disappointing but also encourages the unpleasant behaviors he has. Generally, it's far easier to leash train a puppy than an older dog but it can be done in both cases, the latter demanding a little more patience. Below is a comprehensive step by step guideline towards a successful German shepherd leash training. 1. Choose the correct collar Leash training German shepherd dog should begin with selecting an appropriate collar and placing it onto your dog's neck. Be sure to purchase a standard leather collar that is not too tight as we don't intend to hurt or strangle them. Next, try wearing it while the dog is absent–minded; maybe playing with one of his toys or eats. Allow him to get used to it and don't relieve him even if he tries to scratch it off or dislodge it. Instead, wait until he forgets about it and then take it off. 2. Let the Dog get used to the leash Next, attach a leash to the collar and allow your dog to run freely with it around the house. The dog needs to comprehend the fact that there is an unfamiliar item attached to his neck and he cannot do any much about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. Canine Hip Dysplasia This study was designed to determine the genetic correlations between canine hip dysplasia (CHD) and canine elbow dysplasia (CED) in German shepherds. The study was extended to the genetic correlation of the dogs diagnosed as borderline for both hip and elbow dysplasia. Hip dysplasia is abnormal formation of the hip socket causing a painful arthritis in the joints; it is a polygenic trait affected by environmental factors. Elbow dysplasia is caused by abnormal growth of cells, vague tissue, or bone resulting in elbow pain. Materials used were radiographic examination data taken from the German breeding association for German Shepherd dogs (GSD). These examinations recorded of hip joints associated with CHD and elbow joints associated with CED. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This study was done with 843 German shepherd dogs, because German shepherds are the largest purebred dog population in Europe with an estimated 35% prevalence for CHD (large number for phenotypic and genetic variance). Within the total of 843 German shepherds only 405 were males and 438 were females. The control was the birth season; only dogs born between 2000–2005 were included in this study. In the study, they used radiographs, CHD scores, and EDTA–blood samples for all the dogs from the official guidelines of the Federation Cynologique International (FCI). CHD scores were scaled by CHD–A being normal hip joints, CHD–C having slight signs of CHD, CHD– D with moderate signs, and CHD–E had severe signs of CHD. Only 277 out of 843 were CHD–A classified as unaffected and 557 were CHD–C, CHD–D, or CHD–E classified as affected for the purpose of this study. Various techniques were used in this study to find the SNPs associated with CHD like PCR products, NucleoSpin Kit 96, PTC and , DYEnamic–ET–Terminator Cycle Sequencing Kit,, and many more. A GeneMapper was used to evaluate the data of the study. As they studied 37 SNPs in 95 CHD cases, those SNPs were located in 13 dog chromosomes (CFA1, 3, 4, 8, 9, 16, 19, 26, 29, 32, 33, 34, and 35); ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Police Dogs Police Dogs Breah Ratlif Animal Science AY105–02 12–12:50 Cute, fun, loving, cuddly, outgoing; these are only a few words to describe the animals that we have come to know and love as a part of our families. Dogs have been man's best friend for hundreds of years and were the first animal to be domesticated because they are great as companions, highly intelligent, and were found to be very useful in human's everyday lives. Even though they made excellent house pets they were highly successful at working side by side humans as well. They are not limited to being just best friends, but they have been found to be protectors and saviors as well, to their owners, others people and even other dogs too. One type of working dogs in ... There is always a large possibility that the suspect/criminal can/will be bitten if they attempt to fight off the dog but when thinking about it even the dog "gripping" onto the suspect will inflict a bite. They would not be able to hold the suspect as well if they did not apply pressure into their grip. Before any dog has to be turned loose, they try to intimidate the person first by giving them a warning that if they start to run, the dog will be released and will chase after them. A barking tactic is also used to scare the person into not running away. Even in a case where the officer and dog seem to have the upper hand, there are many situations where the tables can be completely turned. Both the officer and the dog are trained to work together as a team. They must be able to fully trust and understand one another especially when they are placed in extremely dangerous and stressful situations. It is the responsibility of the officer the dog is being handled by to only use the dog when the situation absolutely calls for it. Any other way would be very inappropriate and would be a terrible miss use of the animal. Not being responsible could also put the dog in more of harm's way which can take a definite turn for the worst. • 77. Descriptive Essay About Love Finding Love As I walk into the Homeward Animal Shelter for my dog walking shift, I think of the reason I began my weekly volunteering. I want to give love, in any way I can, to the animals who have been left by the ones they love. These animals that I spend an hour and a half with every Sunday need to know that someone loves them. That they have not been forgotten about and it gets better. After spending the summer with my aunt and uncle, I learned that. As I watched their newest rescue dog Snoop open up to me after 3 years and watching his mile stones. For a dog that was abandoned by his family and left on the street, bounced between the shelter and temporary homes, he has finally found permanent love in our family. Snoop's journey into our family began when his family abandoned him and his little chihuahua brother on the side of the road. They fended for each other for days until they were brought to the pound. From there they were separated. Where the little Chihuahua went is unknown, but Snoop, being a pure bread German Shepherd, was taken to Missouri German Shepherd Rescue (MOGS), a rescue center specializing in Shepherds. His white coat made him easy to love, but after the treatment of his last family he did not easily love others. Once Snoop had come out of his shell, not so sheepishly hiding from the shelter staff, he was moved into a foster home. Here in this foster home he started to become the dog my family knows today. Living with another Shepherd helped him ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
