Argumentative Essay On Children And Technology
The world is changing. The way we live is changing. With technology advancing daily the minds and
health of today's children are changing and molding into something new. This is the generation of
digital natives.
Everything that we do in our lives has to do with technology. The way we communicate, socialize,
and learn. The way our children learn has also changed. Children are like sponges their minds soak
in what is placed in front of them. They take in new ideas and how things are done. Young children
are beginning to learn more through technology with the advancement of online apps. Children with
speech and language problems are using technology to advance further with programs such as LENA.
Children to day have no choice but to be somehow influenced by technology. Many people have a
largely growing opinion on technology, being positive or negative on children. Children's usage of
technology should be limited and monitored. Too much usage can result in violence upon to many
violent video games,as well as laziness and obesity from prolonged hours of usage. The moral of it
all is children are being saturated in technology being that its good or bad. If a child plays a lot of
video games it can define his or hers attitude towards school or even towards family.Boys seem to be
more into video games than girls.
The usage of technology in school as well as with speech and language, benefits children in easier
learning. Children use educational games to better understand subjects being taught. Children access
the internet to get better understanding of topics.
Not all usage of technology will benefit children. Technology can affect a child's health. It can lead to
weight issues, obesity. It can affect their eyesight. Prolonged sitting can result in back problems that
will affect them into adulthood. It affects the relationships children have with parents and even other
children.Rather than socializing and communicating older children are resorting to technology to
communicate via text and instant messaging.
A negative impact on children in the real word. Prolonged usage can defer a child's character,
causing a negative relationship with peers. It is also a cause of concern in writing skills. As children

Did you know that 84% of all Singapore households own at least one computer? Known as an
electronic device for storing and processing data, it has certainly become an important part of most
people's daily lives. There is a large range of actions that can be performed with a computer, with
different actions catered for different people, but suitable for almost everybody. Hence, thecomputer
is globally popular. As computers continue to increase in popularity, its invention has led to many
technological advances and has opened many new windows, and modernization has drastically
increased one's reliance on it. However, one question bogging everyone's mind is, can we live
without it now? My view is that that our world is now too dependant on...show more content...
In the past, there were no such things like electricity or even advanced machinery, and computers
were, at most, no more then a figment of imagination. However, modernization has made the role of
computers an important one, and hence the idea that we could live without the means we have now
is clearly out of the question. Our society has changed, and so has the needs of the generation.
Computers have become a very basic demand of this generation, and living without it is almost
unimaginable. There are many reasons why this is so, but mainly, it is crucial to aid in
convenience for a more productive system, and also to aid in communications around the world, to
meet the needs of a changing world, one different from the era of which computers did not exist.
Computers should be integrated correctly into our lives, and if done so, will prove to be beneficial
and advantageous to

4)Make a case for or against Artificial Intelligence from a logistical or ideological standpoint. Refer
to the work of Alan Turing in your response.
Alan Turing's idea of 'can computers think? Is challenged with how complex the human brain is and
how computers only know what they are programmed with, even though 'Deep Blue'("Deep Blue
(Chess Computer)") Was able to beat chess champion Garry Kasparov in game one of a six–game
match on the 10th of February 1996. Artificial Intelligence can not replicate a human's way of
thinking as it can only be programmed to be able to react to specific situations and if anything is
different or new, it won't be able to process the new situation and make a conscious decision the
way a human would. Robots are incapable of thinking the way we do and are not creative, so can
not come up with original ideas, this supports the theory that computers can't think as they need
other people's ideas. Robots also have no loyalty or morals the way a human would and so can be
deadly in the hands of terrorists. Another constraint of Artificial Intelligence is the fact that you
have to be literal with everything you say, 'y2k' is an example of this as there was a chance that
the computers could assume that the next year was 1900, possibly starting a world war. Another
factor to consider is the religious constraints of Artificial Intelligence as especially religions and
countries that are very strict, such as Islam in the Middle East, as they have laws

Are We Too Dependent on Technology? Essay
Are We Too Dependent on Technology?
Eric Tracy ENG 122Angela Temple May 3rd, 2010
Are We Too Dependent on Technology? If you were to ask somebody what a computer was sixty
years ago they would look at you look at you puzzled. Now days it is hard to find a household or
office in America that does not contain at least one personal computer. With all of this information at
our finger tips, we have to ask ourselves if we are becoming too dependent on technology. Imagine
if we were to wake up tomorrow with all electronic devices disabled. Everybody's life would be
impacted in one way or another. We would lose what has become the largest portal for
communication. We would also lose countless information that has...show more content...
A lot of people believe that we are not too dependent on technology. I spoke to my brother; he
stated we just utilize it like we would automobiles or anything else like that. There is no denying
the benefits of technology, however, I believe we should not get ahead of ourselves. Over the last
fifty years our civilization has changed dramatically. Communication with friends and family has
become as easy as the click of the mouse. Also we have saved countless trees by using electronic
mail instead of paper mail. I agree that it is in our best interest to continue to use technology in the
future. However, I feel that we all should get into the mindset of having a contingency plan in case
we lose it. It is hard to go anywhere now days without interacting with a computer. A lot of jobs now
require that you fill out applications on the internet. It has also become crucial that you have basic
computer skills to be employed in any office setting. In 1994 only 3% of public schools had
internet access. In just over ten years in 2005 that number had jumped to 94% of all public
schools now having internet access. (US Department of Education) This just goes to show how
fast technology is really growing. I feel that we are way to acceptant of something new and need to
realize the repercussions before jumping right in. So many people rely on technology in their
everyday lives. It could be from using your cell

Computers And Robots Advantages And Disadvantages
It is undeniable fact that the advent of new technologies–– most importantly computers and robots
–– is a significant breakthrough in the new century, to change lives of human beings for the best.
The fact of the matter is that variety of them already came into people lives which made that easier,
faster, and reliable than that of past–– to name but a few. The more they use new technologies, the
more they will become addicted to them, and the less they give it a try to learn skills or anything
they are in need of. While someone believes that these changes have a positive effect on humans'
lives, and others believe otherwise. I, personally, subscribe to the latter idea on the grounds that,
although the new technologies bring a high standard of comfort for people's lives, its demerits
definitely outweigh its merits. Having said that, I mean, when we used computers or robots for
ease of our lives, we did not expect once we would be supplanted by them, as automated machine
do the job allocated to humans more perfectly with less cost and time. To begin with, computers
and robots as a way of new technologies changing our life, making them better on the grounds that
new cutting edge design is transforming our daily lives and businesses. Suffice it to say, our
routine job, or day to day events will be reduced drastically. As a result, we have free time to

Technology Argumentative Essay
Today's society has advanced so this past decade. So much to the point we use it at a daily basis.
Technology does have it's perks, but are we getting too dependent on it? Technology has its
advantages in many ways and I know firsthand how powerful and convenient today's technology is.
Without it, I would have a lot of trouble getting through my day. I would not be able to get a hold of
someone as easy without my blackberry. I am constantly text messaging on it. So much to the point
that I trip over stuff while I am walking due to reading a long text. My blackberry is basically my
life. It is great to know that if I ever get stranded in the middle of a desert on my way to California, I
have roadside assistance on my phone to save me. I...show more content...
Life is more simple with these wonderful devices, but we are becoming too lazy to pick up a book
and learn things on our own. I feel like I and many of my classmates barley open a book for class,
instead we use the internet for everything. This is becoming a serious issue. I feel that we are not
expanding our minds like we used to back when technology was not as advanced. I remember back
in middle school were the internet was available, but I did not let it take up time in my day. I
found myself being more productive with my life back then. Now, I probably spent a fourth of
my day using the internet, which is not necessary at all. With so much power to discover new
things without even thinking makes me wonder what will happen to our next generation as
technology advances. Are we headed for a world where everything is technology driven and
devoid of what makes us human? I look at today's society and I feel that it is really getting to that
point. It is almost as if we are turning into robots. We are divorcing ourselves from regular human
activities. `We are now getting to the point where we are programmed to use technology at a daily
basis. My generation needs to realize that there are many other types of activities that give us greater
satisfaction than anything that is offered online. Instead of spending two to three hours text
messaging a friend, social networking and checking listings on Ebay, we should really take a visit
to a local

Overdependence on Computer
Argumentative Writing
Topic: We are becoming overwhelmingly dependent on computers. Is thisdependence on computers a
good thing or should we be more suspicious of their benefits?
Introduction
Computers are, without a doubt, a useful tool that many of us use every day. Sincetheir invention,
people far and wide have become increasingly dependent oncomputers. Computers have found
their way into just about every aspect of our lives, and in most cases, they make things easier for
us. They allow us to work from home, socialize with our friends and family who live too far away to
visit, and they provide an ever–welcome stress relief when we come home from schoolor work and
just want to have some fun. But as we increasingly rely on computersto...show more content...
But it's not just a matter of behavioural changes –– when a person can't tear themselves away from
the screenlong enough to take part in any other activity, it can take a toll on their comfort andhealth.
They may experience weight gain, strained eyes, and headaches, amongother unpleasant side–effects.
However, it can also be argued that this is not thefault of the computer, but rather the fault of the
person.Perhaps the most convincing argument, however, is the issue of safety. Aside fromthe
issue of sharing personal information such as full names and addresses, there isalso the bigger
issue of stolen personal information. As our dependence oncomputers grows, so does our comfort
level with them, and we are more likely tosave personal information to our computer. While it
would be nice to think that it isalways perfectly safe to do so, the fact is that there are people who
have anynumber of ways to gain access to your personal files, and therefore, any
personalinformation stored on your computer. Even if you don't knowingly keep any personal
information on your computer, if you bank or shop online at all, it's possible for someone who
knows what they're doing to gain access to delicatefinancial information. But these are just examples
of issues with household computers. What of the restof the world? Instead of writing a

Argumentative Essay On Screen Time
Technology has been part of our daily live more frequently than before. Screen time has been more
popularly used on kids and adolescents. On a daily bases many kids seem to spend more time
inside on their tablets, instead of having to spend time with other kids. This is a problem that is
becoming more popular over the years,on whether kids need to spend that much time on technology
or not. Parents either seem to have strict technology usage, or they either don't. There has always
been a huge controversy with experts, who either think that screen time is beneficial or could cause
problems later on in life. There are many views towards this topic, from hurting kids brains, to
helping them during school, and socially.
Many people, including...show more content...
In order to balance both there has to be comparative with the parents. Technology isn't good nor
bad. It can only benefit the child if the parents put a limit to their time in the screen. Parents need to
set up a schedule in where the kids will follow the time the kids will be using the tablet/ phone. As
well have time to play with other kids, and just interact with there own family member. In the
article, Screen time: A guide for parents states, " keeping computers out of the bedroom, and keep
them in a common area in your house. This will make sure that the child isn't using their
computers/ tablets during the time they have to rest. Kids need to have a good rest, and not having
technology in their rooms because it could cause irregular sleep. Just having the parent take action
in how much kids need to spend time in the screens can be a good start. Luscombe argues, " Take
away the idea that all screens are bad, but the face–to –face time for young people is an important
part of the socialization process". Parents seem to not understand that children need to develop
good social skills, and that can only be done by interacting with others, and get a sense on others
points of views. Parents need to stop giving the kids technology to keep them quiet for a while,
because at the end it's hurting the child

Impact of Technology in the Workplace Essay
The Impact of Technology in the Workplace The impact of computer technology in the workplace
has been enormous within the past decade, both positive and negative. Distant communication
through the use of computers and mobile devices have overhauled the office setting completely.

a type writer, edited for corrections and revisions were made. It took time for the document to be
read and reviewed by several persons before all corrections and additions were made. Then, the final
copy was re–typed with corrections. Through the use of computers, grammar, spelling, and

Mailing documents took time as well. Someone had to make a trip to the post office, purchase

Participants can be actively involved without leaving their own office or home. When there are
problems or urgency, solutions and reactions can occur quickly. There is acceleration of decision
making with the use of technology. Communication can occur anywhere at any time. Job applicants
no longer actually visit businesses to complete an application. Resumes and other documents can be
uploaded and easily accessible to the Human Resource Manager. Online postings, applications, and

businesses are able to obtain a great deal of information and select qualified applicants for further
evaluation. With the absence of the traditional office, physical face to face

Thesis Statement On Computer Addiction

Thesis Statement: While computer games might seem like it has benefits towards building up
character, it can still contribute to addiction and the like. Technology , as defined by the
dictionary is the practical application of knowledge especially in a particular area. However,
generations of today misunderstood the essence of the existence of technology. Technology may

Debate on "Should Computers Replace Teachers"
This is the first argument that I would like to give against the motion. I agree that some aspects of
the educational system are already provided by the computer and yes, it is definitely true that you
don't need a person to learn everything – education is a largely personal matter. However, if we
eliminate the teacher–student interaction completely, a part of the educational experience will be
lost. It's not just the act of standing before a class that makes a teacher a teacher, there's the whole
social experience of learning – the working together, bouncing ideas off of one another, etc. People
are always complaining about the loss of social contact that has come with the age of technology I

them. I look forward to your response. ;) Report this Argument Con First of all I would like to
thank my worthy opponent for accepting this debate. It will surely be great fun to debate with
Marauder. Now to talk about the debate I would first like to bring forward my reply for my
opponent's and then I shall move on to my arguments. "I know most members of this website find
semantics annoying and cheap but since I'm arguing for the PRO side of this resolution I still feel
a need to point out an important semantic flaw. The Resolution is 'Computers CAN replace...' and
even from reading Con's first argument you can see he has already admitted that it 'CAN' be done
though he says it would lose an important quality desired in a teaching environment. So by Con's
own admission the Resolution has been affirmed PRO; that Computers CAN indeed replace human
teachers." First of all I'd like to clarify that I had suggested in my previous argument that SOME
aspects of the educational system are provided by the computer and not all the aspects are covered
up by it. On the contrary,a teacher

Argumentative Essay for Using Laptops
Argumentative Essay
In recent years, laptop computers have been playing a ubiquitous role in society. Generally speaking,
there are more and more people carrying them along in restaurant, airport lounges and bookstores. On
the other hand, laptops are also an important component in the educational process. As a matter of
fact, they do offer an array of advantages, while some people think using laptops in the classroom is
a learning impediment and a distraction. Although some people suggest that laptops should be
banned in class, using laptops can be more beneficial in enhancing learn experience, convenience of
note taking and class activities, efficient communication in class, and spelling skills of students with

Using laptop to take notes or edit electronic documents is much more convenient and faster than
handwriting and doing research. With laptops, students can simply make modifications digitally,
adding sections, correcting spelling, or moving elements of an electronic document. Several research
studies reported that a majority of students thought that laptops were effective for note–taking. As a
report mentioned, "Students reported that note–taking was the most prevalent and important laptop
activity they participated in during class. Almost two–thirds of the students agreed that this activity
consumed 50 to 100% of their time. A majority of students (57%) also noted that academic–based
laptop activities were conducted over 50% of the time during a standard class. Furthermore, over
70% of the students agreed that laptops were important with respect to their overall academic
success" (Robin H.). Some students type much faster than they hand–write. This may mean they do
not write all the information they should have.Since many universities provide free access to the
Internet, a laptop computer allows students to research, collaborate and collect information almost
anywhere in the university environment.
Many think that laptop use in class cut down the students' personal communication with teachers and
classmates. Computers allow students to efficiently communicate with

In Today's World People Depend Too Much On Computers and Technology
Are we too dependent on computers? The answer is yes! In today's society, people use computers
in business, education, and in the entertainment world. Almost everything we do and every aspect
of our life is affected by modern technology with computers at the top of the list. People obsess
over computers. The computers do everything for us so we don't have to use our brains anymore.
People are losing their jobs due to the computers moving into the workplace. They are making
society dumber by the day. Society today is too dependent on computers because we use them for
everything, we don't have the social interaction that we once had, and technology makes us lazy.
First,...show more content...
Last but not least, technology makes us lazy. Children do not want to read books anymore when
they can just run to a computer and get the summary of the book. People are becoming obese
because they are not getting out of their homes anymore to exercise because they are glued to
Farmville on Facebook. We rather do something easy than actually take the time to do it the long
way around. Technology has made the people of the world couch potatoes. We can do everything
at a push of a button, and we don't have to put forth much effort to do the things that we once use
to do manually. Some people may say that the world does not rely too much on computers. I do
agree that computers have done some wonderful things. They make it to where deployed soldiers
can see their children and wives from anywhere as long as they have a web cam, advanced
computer–based systems are used to examine delicate organs of the body. Some of the complex
surgeries can be performed with the aid of computers, but I feel that the bad outweighs the good.
People that don't agree with me don't think about the children that spend so much time on the
computer that their grades start dropping at school, the children that fall prey to pedophiles, or the
children that commit suicide over cyber bullying. Those people don't think about the people that get
their identity stolen right out from underneath them.
In Conclusion, when we

Limiting the Use of Technology Essay
Limit The Use of Technology Over the past several years' technology has advanced significantly.
Nowadays most everything we use is done by some form of technology. Several years ago, we
didn't even have cellphones or the Internet, now we have cellphones that can access the Internet.
This generation has become so dependent with technology that it is actually beginning to harm most
us, not help us. So this leads us to believe one should limit his or her use of technology because it
could cause addiction, loss of time management, and invaded privacy. Technologies, such as
cellphones, Internet, and video games have lead many to be addicted. Because we use cellphones
everyday we become dependent on them and use them constantly. Now, when...show more content...
When we become distracted with the Internet we loose all other priorities that need to be done
such as our schoolwork, job, or even children. This is one of the many reasons why we should
limit ourselves to the use of technology. By limiting ourselves we are saving ourselves from
becoming addicted and obsessed. Secondly, we may end up losing our discipline in time
management and cause problems in our lives. When we do not watch how we make use with our
time, we can lose track of what needs to be done. Time management is an important factor in our
lives and when we lose sight on that we may end up forgetting important tasks. Video games are
one of the many technologies we use most of our time doing and keep us from doing our work.
Teenagers these days have gotten bad grades and failed classes because they spend too much time
playing video games and not much time on their schoolwork. We also end up losing time we
could be spending working on our career. Instead of building up our career we tend to waste that
time on the Internet or video games. When technologies such as video games or the Internet take
the place of schoolwork or our career, we lose all discipline in time management. People who do
not have a good time management also will tend to lose friends; they distance themselves by
constantly being on the computer or video game. No one wants a person as a friend if all he or she
does is

Argument Essay: Technology and Children
Argument and Persuasion, Essay #6
Technology and Children This technology revolution sparked a debate on children's use of
technology. Children are constantly using iPads, iPhones, tablets, and other computerized devices.
By over exposing children to technology, they are being robbed of the mental stimulation that comes
from doing real, non computerized, activities. It has gotten to the point where one can see a
two–year–old navigate an iPhone with ease but struggle to speak. Sixty–nine percent of children
aged two to five can use a computer mouse, but only eleven percent can tie their own shoelaces

Also, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in a study in 2004, 16 percent of
children that are between the ages of six and nineteen years of age are overweight or obese. This is
a number that has nearly tripled since 1980, mostly due to technological usage. Being overweight
can bring with it great health concerns. Many of these children have a chance of developing Type II
Diabetes, asthma, sleep apnea, social discrimination, high cholesterol and/or blood pressure.
Moreover, according to a Stanford University of Medicine study, elementary students consume 20
percent of their daily calorie intake while watching television, which usually includes unhealthy
snacks, largely due to advertisements for junk food and boredom. Coincidently, kids are not burning
off any of these calories while they are plopped in front of the television.
When it comes down to a child's creativity, it is being drained by the pre–generated creative art
studios on computers. Before if a child wanted to show how artistic they could be, they would pull
out a box of crayons or makers and draw a picture straight from their imagination. Now, we have
coloring templates with preset colors that make children color inside the lines. The pseudo creativity

and positive ways. c. Thesis statement: computers effect children in positive and negative manner
such as, the negative effect from computer games and Internet on children, and the positive effect
from computer on children's education. II. Body: a. Paragraph2 (first negative effect) topic sentence:

Children will feel lonely because they spent most of their time on computers instead of spending
their time with their family."This increases their daily stress because if they are not talking with
their parents it means they are not sharing their problem, which is why they are facing trouble."(
Wisdia "computer affects", n.d.). Children should be with their parents instead of playing on
computers because parents always advise and help their children. To conclude, computer games can
affect on children in negative way, and change their behavior. Second, Internet affects on children
in two negative ways. One obvious negative effect is login on sites that can damage children's
life. "Sites encourage children to use the Internet for the production, manufacture, and distribution
pornography" (ojp, "Internet" , May 2001). For example, login on sites that sell alcohol and
drugs. Also these sites give details on how to get and use them. Moreover, there are sites deceive
children, and give them money to help them sell pornography materials. Those children who
deceived from the internet there life will damage, and they will be in jail. Next obvious negative
effect is chatting with bad people who damage children minds. For instance, chatting with people
who encourage children for violet and suicide. "Children are also easy target for sexual affenders

The Pros and Cons of Technology Essay
People very often debate whether technology is good or bad. Many people believe that technology
can only cause harm to their lives and society, while many others strongly defend the technologies
which have made their lives much more leisurely and enriching than it could have been several
hundred years ago. In my opinion, both of these views are correct to an extent, but I also believe
that what should be examined is not whether technology in its self is good or bad, but rather how we
as humans use it.For decades now, television has been accused of contributing to the dissolution of
the American family and the destruction of the minds of those who watch it. However, although the
TV has been involved in this, the problem roots not with...show more content...
Refrigerators, gas and electric ovens, microwaves, vacuums, dishwashers....the list goes on and on.
All these things have made housework tremendously easier than it would have been about 100 years
ago.
This results with both positive and negative effects. It has given us easier ways to get jobs done,
leaving more time for other things, but the bad part of this is what is chosen to do in this extra
time. In many cases, this extra time is spent doing leisurely things, which might make us more
happy, but also has an effect on our health. Lately we have become aware of the dangers of heart
disease and the health benefits of exercise....the exercise we would have gotten 100 years ago just
from doing our daily chores but now aren't getting enough of because we don't have to work as hard
to do those same chores.
This can be blamed on technology, but again, in fact it is our own fault because we chose to use
the technology and spend the extra time lazing around. Now, something that really bothers me
about technology is what is made out of it. I often question why people spend so much time and
money trying to come up with so many useless things when we have global warming problems
and starving children working in shoe factories. For example, scientists spent years to make a
clone of a sheep. Now let me ask you, is their any practical use in knowing how to clone a sheep?
Many people think that eventually this scientific advancement will lead into

Argumentative Essay On Computers

  • 1. Argumentative Essay On Children And Technology The world is changing. The way we live is changing. With technology advancing daily the minds and health of today's children are changing and molding into something new. This is the generation of digital natives. Everything that we do in our lives has to do with technology. The way we communicate, socialize, and learn. The way our children learn has also changed. Children are like sponges their minds soak in what is placed in front of them. They take in new ideas and how things are done. Young children are beginning to learn more through technology with the advancement of online apps. Children with speech and language problems are using technology to advance further with programs such as LENA. Children to day have no choice but to be somehow influenced by technology. Many people have a largely growing opinion on technology, being positive or negative on children. Children's usage of technology should be limited and monitored. Too much usage can result in violence upon to many violent video games,as well as laziness and obesity from prolonged hours of usage. The moral of it all is children are being saturated in technology being that its good or bad. If a child plays a lot of video games it can define his or hers attitude towards school or even towards family.Boys seem to be more into video games than girls. The usage of technology in school as well as with speech and language, benefits children in easier learning. Children use educational games to better understand subjects being taught. Children access the internet to get better understanding of topics. Not all usage of technology will benefit children. Technology can affect a child's health. It can lead to weight issues, obesity. It can affect their eyesight. Prolonged sitting can result in back problems that will affect them into adulthood. It affects the relationships children have with parents and even other children.Rather than socializing and communicating older children are resorting to technology to communicate via text and instant messaging. A negative impact on children in the real word. Prolonged usage can defer a child's character, causing a negative relationship with peers. It is also a cause of concern in writing skills. • 2. Did you know that 84% of all Singapore households own at least one computer? Known as an electronic device for storing and processing data, it has certainly become an important part of most people's daily lives. There is a large range of actions that can be performed with a computer, with different actions catered for different people, but suitable for almost everybody. Hence, thecomputer is globally popular. As computers continue to increase in popularity, its invention has led to many technological advances and has opened many new windows, and modernization has drastically increased one's reliance on it. However, one question bogging everyone's mind is, can we live without it now? My view is that that our world is now too dependant on...show more content... In the past, there were no such things like electricity or even advanced machinery, and computers were, at most, no more then a figment of imagination. However, modernization has made the role of computers an important one, and hence the idea that we could live without the means we have now is clearly out of the question. Our society has changed, and so has the needs of the generation. Computers have become a very basic demand of this generation, and living without it is almost unimaginable. There are many reasons why this is so, but mainly, it is crucial to aid in convenience for a more productive system, and also to aid in communications around the world, to meet the needs of a changing world, one different from the era of which computers did not exist. Computers should be integrated correctly into our lives, and if done so, will prove to be beneficial and advantageous to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. 4)Make a case for or against Artificial Intelligence from a logistical or ideological standpoint. Refer to the work of Alan Turing in your response. Alan Turing's idea of 'can computers think? Is challenged with how complex the human brain is and how computers only know what they are programmed with, even though 'Deep Blue'("Deep Blue (Chess Computer)") Was able to beat chess champion Garry Kasparov in game one of a six–game match on the 10th of February 1996. Artificial Intelligence can not replicate a human's way of thinking as it can only be programmed to be able to react to specific situations and if anything is different or new, it won't be able to process the new situation and make a conscious decision the way a human would. Robots are incapable of thinking the way we do and are not creative, so can not come up with original ideas, this supports the theory that computers can't think as they need other people's ideas. Robots also have no loyalty or morals the way a human would and so can be deadly in the hands of terrorists. Another constraint of Artificial Intelligence is the fact that you have to be literal with everything you say, 'y2k' is an example of this as there was a chance that the computers could assume that the next year was 1900, possibly starting a world war. Another factor to consider is the religious constraints of Artificial Intelligence as especially religions and countries that are very strict, such as Islam in the Middle East, as they have laws Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Are We Too Dependent on Technology? Essay Are We Too Dependent on Technology? Eric Tracy ENG 122Angela Temple May 3rd, 2010 Are We Too Dependent on Technology? If you were to ask somebody what a computer was sixty years ago they would look at you look at you puzzled. Now days it is hard to find a household or office in America that does not contain at least one personal computer. With all of this information at our finger tips, we have to ask ourselves if we are becoming too dependent on technology. Imagine if we were to wake up tomorrow with all electronic devices disabled. Everybody's life would be impacted in one way or another. We would lose what has become the largest portal for communication. We would also lose countless information that has...show more content... A lot of people believe that we are not too dependent on technology. I spoke to my brother; he stated we just utilize it like we would automobiles or anything else like that. There is no denying the benefits of technology, however, I believe we should not get ahead of ourselves. Over the last fifty years our civilization has changed dramatically. Communication with friends and family has become as easy as the click of the mouse. Also we have saved countless trees by using electronic mail instead of paper mail. I agree that it is in our best interest to continue to use technology in the future. However, I feel that we all should get into the mindset of having a contingency plan in case we lose it. It is hard to go anywhere now days without interacting with a computer. A lot of jobs now require that you fill out applications on the internet. It has also become crucial that you have basic computer skills to be employed in any office setting. In 1994 only 3% of public schools had internet access. In just over ten years in 2005 that number had jumped to 94% of all public schools now having internet access. (US Department of Education) This just goes to show how fast technology is really growing. I feel that we are way to acceptant of something new and need to realize the repercussions before jumping right in. So many people rely on technology in their everyday lives. It could be from using your cell Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Computers And Robots Advantages And Disadvantages It is undeniable fact that the advent of new technologies–– most importantly computers and robots –– is a significant breakthrough in the new century, to change lives of human beings for the best. The fact of the matter is that variety of them already came into people lives which made that easier, faster, and reliable than that of past–– to name but a few. The more they use new technologies, the more they will become addicted to them, and the less they give it a try to learn skills or anything they are in need of. While someone believes that these changes have a positive effect on humans' lives, and others believe otherwise. I, personally, subscribe to the latter idea on the grounds that, although the new technologies bring a high standard of comfort for people's lives, its demerits definitely outweigh its merits. Having said that, I mean, when we used computers or robots for ease of our lives, we did not expect once we would be supplanted by them, as automated machine do the job allocated to humans more perfectly with less cost and time. To begin with, computers and robots as a way of new technologies changing our life, making them better on the grounds that new cutting edge design is transforming our daily lives and businesses. Suffice it to say, our routine job, or day to day events will be reduced drastically. As a result, we have free time to focuse on other aspects of our lives. Technology does have it's perks, but are we getting too dependent on it? Technology has its advantages in many ways and I know firsthand how powerful and convenient today's technology is. Without it, I would have a lot of trouble getting through my day. I would not be able to get a hold of someone as easy without my blackberry. I am constantly text messaging on it. So much to the point that I trip over stuff while I am walking due to reading a long text. My blackberry is basically my life. Life is more simple with these wonderful devices, but we are becoming too lazy to pick up a book and learn things on our own. I feel like I and many of my classmates barley open a book for class, instead we use the internet for everything. This is becoming a serious issue. I feel that we are not expanding our minds like we used to back when technology was not as advanced. I remember back in middle school were the internet was available, but I did not let it take up time in my day. I found myself being more productive with my life back then. Now, I probably spent a fourth of my day using the internet, which is not necessary at all. With so much power to discover new things without even thinking makes me wonder what will happen to our next generation as technology advances. Are we headed for a world where everything is technology driven and devoid of what makes us human? I look at today's society and I feel that it is really getting to that point. It is almost as if we are turning into robots. We are divorcing ourselves from regular human activities. `We are now getting to the point where we are programmed to use technology at a daily basis. My generation needs to realize that there are many other types of activities that give us greater satisfaction than anything that is offered online. • 7. Overdependence on Computer Argumentative Writing Topic: We are becoming overwhelmingly dependent on computers. Is thisdependence on computers a good thing or should we be more suspicious of their benefits? Introduction Computers are, without a doubt, a useful tool that many of us use every day. Sincetheir invention, people far and wide have become increasingly dependent oncomputers. Computers have found their way into just about every aspect of our lives, and in most cases, they make things easier for us. They allow us to work from home, socialize with our friends and family who live too far away to visit, and they provide an ever–welcome stress relief when we come home from schoolor work and just want to have some fun. But it's not just a matter of behavioural changes –– when a person can't tear themselves away from the screenlong enough to take part in any other activity, it can take a toll on their comfort andhealth. They may experience weight gain, strained eyes, and headaches, amongother unpleasant side–effects. However, it can also be argued that this is not thefault of the computer, but rather the fault of the person.Perhaps the most convincing argument, however, is the issue of safety. Aside fromthe issue of sharing personal information such as full names and addresses, there isalso the bigger issue of stolen personal information. As our dependence oncomputers grows, so does our comfort level with them, and we are more likely tosave personal information to our computer. While it would be nice to think that it isalways perfectly safe to do so, the fact is that there are people who have anynumber of ways to gain access to your personal files, and therefore, any personalinformation stored on your computer. Even if you don't knowingly keep any personal information on your computer, if you bank or shop online at all, it's possible for someone who knows what they're doing to gain access to delicatefinancial information. Computer Science is important and can help not just their own field but also other fields like business, art, physics, etc. Schools should make Computer Science classes available because now kids can take it in high school and middle school, instead of waiting until college. On a daily bases many kids seem to spend more time inside on their tablets, instead of having to spend time with other kids. This is a problem that is becoming more popular over the years,on whether kids need to spend that much time on technology or not. Parents either seem to have strict technology usage, or they either don't. There has always been a huge controversy with experts, who either think that screen time is beneficial or could cause problems later on in life. There are many views towards this topic, from hurting kids brains, to helping them during school, and socially. Many people, including...show more content... In order to balance both there has to be comparative with the parents. Technology isn't good nor bad. It can only benefit the child if the parents put a limit to their time in the screen. Parents need to set up a schedule in where the kids will follow the time the kids will be using the tablet/ phone. As well have time to play with other kids, and just interact with there own family member. In the article, Screen time: A guide for parents states, " keeping computers out of the bedroom, and keep them in a common area in your house. This will make sure that the child isn't using their computers/ tablets during the time they have to rest. Kids need to have a good rest, and not having technology in their rooms because it could cause irregular sleep. Just having the parent take action in how much kids need to spend time in the screens can be a good start. Luscombe argues, " Take away the idea that all screens are bad, but the face–to –face time for young people is an important part of the socialization process". Parents seem to not understand that children need to develop good social skills, and that can only be done by interacting with others, and get a sense on others points of views. Parents need to stop giving the kids technology to keep them quiet for a while, because at the end it's hurting the child Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Impact of Technology in the Workplace Essay The Impact of Technology in the Workplace The impact of computer technology in the workplace has been enormous within the past decade, both positive and negative. Distant communication through the use of computers and mobile devices have overhauled the office setting completely. Email, social networking sites and the world of the Internet have opened a whole new avenue of communication. It took time for the document to be read and reviewed by several persons before all corrections and additions were made. Then, the final copy was re–typed with corrections. Through the use of computers, grammar, spelling, and punctuation can be corrected and changed within the document instantly as the person types. Mailing documents took time as well. Someone had to make a trip to the post office, purchase postage, etc. With the use of virtual meetings, money is saved by eliminating the cost of travel. Participants can be actively involved without leaving their own office or home. When there are problems or urgency, solutions and reactions can occur quickly. There is acceleration of decision making with the use of technology. Communication can occur anywhere at any time. Job applicants no longer actually visit businesses to complete an application. Resumes and other documents can be uploaded and easily accessible to the Human Resource Manager. Thesis Statement: While computer games might seem like it has benefits towards building up character, it can still contribute to addiction and the like. Technology , as defined by the dictionary is the practical application of knowledge especially in a particular area. • 12. Debate on "Should Computers Replace Teachers" This is the first argument that I would like to give against the motion. I agree that some aspects of the educational system are already provided by the computer and yes, it is definitely true that you don't need a person to learn everything – education is a largely personal matter. However, if we eliminate the teacher–student interaction completely, a part of the educational experience will be lost. It's not just the act of standing before a class that makes a teacher a teacher, there's the whole social experience of learning – the working together, bouncing ideas off of one another, etc. People are always complaining about the loss of social contact that has come with the age of technology I fail to imagine what they'd be saying if the...show more content... I look forward to your response. ;) Report this Argument Con First of all I would like to thank my worthy opponent for accepting this debate. It will surely be great fun to debate with Marauder. Now to talk about the debate I would first like to bring forward my reply for my opponent's and then I shall move on to my arguments. "I know most members of this website find semantics annoying and cheap but since I'm arguing for the PRO side of this resolution I still feel a need to point out an important semantic flaw. The Resolution is 'Computers CAN replace...' and even from reading Con's first argument you can see he has already admitted that it 'CAN' be done though he says it would lose an important quality desired in a teaching environment. So by Con's own admission the Resolution has been affirmed PRO; that Computers CAN indeed replace human teachers." First of all I'd like to clarify that I had suggested in my previous argument that SOME aspects of the educational system are provided by the computer and not all the aspects are covered up by it. • 13. Argumentative Essay for Using Laptops Argumentative Essay In recent years, laptop computers have been playing a ubiquitous role in society. Generally speaking, there are more and more people carrying them along in restaurant, airport lounges and bookstores. On the other hand, laptops are also an important component in the educational process. As a matter of fact, they do offer an array of advantages, while some people think using laptops in the classroom is a learning impediment and a distraction. Although some people suggest that laptops should be banned in class, using laptops can be more beneficial in enhancing learn experience, convenience of note taking and class activities, efficient communication in class, and spelling skills of students with learning disabilities....show more content... Using laptop to take notes or edit electronic documents is much more convenient and faster than handwriting and doing research. With laptops, students can simply make modifications digitally, adding sections, correcting spelling, or moving elements of an electronic document. Several research studies reported that a majority of students thought that laptops were effective for note–taking. As a report mentioned, "Students reported that note–taking was the most prevalent and important laptop activity they participated in during class. Almost two–thirds of the students agreed that this activity consumed 50 to 100% of their time. A majority of students (57%) also noted that academic–based laptop activities were conducted over 50% of the time during a standard class. Furthermore, over 70% of the students agreed that laptops were important with respect to their overall academic success" (Robin H.). Some students type much faster than they hand–write. This may mean they do not write all the information they should have.Since many universities provide free access to the Internet, a laptop computer allows students to research, collaborate and collect information almost anywhere in the university environment. Many think that laptop use in class cut down the students' personal communication with teachers and classmates. • 14. In Today's World People Depend Too Much On Computers and Technology Are we too dependent on computers? The answer is yes! In today's society, people use computers in business, education, and in the entertainment world. Almost everything we do and every aspect of our life is affected by modern technology with computers at the top of the list. People obsess over computers. The computers do everything for us so we don't have to use our brains anymore. People are losing their jobs due to the computers moving into the workplace. They are making society dumber by the day. Society today is too dependent on computers because we use them for everything, we don't have the social interaction that we once had, and technology makes us lazy. First,...show more content... Last but not least, technology makes us lazy. Children do not want to read books anymore when they can just run to a computer and get the summary of the book. People are becoming obese because they are not getting out of their homes anymore to exercise because they are glued to Farmville on Facebook. We rather do something easy than actually take the time to do it the long way around. Technology has made the people of the world couch potatoes. We can do everything at a push of a button, and we don't have to put forth much effort to do the things that we once use to do manually. Some people may say that the world does not rely too much on computers. I do agree that computers have done some wonderful things. They make it to where deployed soldiers can see their children and wives from anywhere as long as they have a web cam, advanced computer–based systems are used to examine delicate organs of the body. Some of the complex surgeries can be performed with the aid of computers, but I feel that the bad outweighs the good. People that don't agree with me don't think about the children that spend so much time on the computer that their grades start dropping at school, the children that fall prey to pedophiles, or the children that commit suicide over cyber bullying. Those people don't think about the people that get their identity stolen right out from underneath them. In Conclusion, when we Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Limiting the Use of Technology Essay Limit The Use of Technology Over the past several years' technology has advanced significantly. Nowadays most everything we use is done by some form of technology. Several years ago, we didn't even have cellphones or the Internet, now we have cellphones that can access the Internet. This generation has become so dependent with technology that it is actually beginning to harm most us, not help us. So this leads us to believe one should limit his or her use of technology because it could cause addiction, loss of time management, and invaded privacy. Technologies, such as cellphones, Internet, and video games have lead many to be addicted. Because we use cellphones everyday we become dependent on them and use them constantly. Now, when...show more content... When we become distracted with the Internet we loose all other priorities that need to be done such as our schoolwork, job, or even children. This is one of the many reasons why we should limit ourselves to the use of technology. By limiting ourselves we are saving ourselves from becoming addicted and obsessed. Secondly, we may end up losing our discipline in time management and cause problems in our lives. When we do not watch how we make use with our time, we can lose track of what needs to be done. Time management is an important factor in our lives and when we lose sight on that we may end up forgetting important tasks. Video games are one of the many technologies we use most of our time doing and keep us from doing our work. Teenagers these days have gotten bad grades and failed classes because they spend too much time playing video games and not much time on their schoolwork. We also end up losing time we could be spending working on our career. Instead of building up our career we tend to waste that time on the Internet or video games. When technologies such as video games or the Internet take the place of schoolwork or our career, we lose all discipline in time management. People who do not have a good time management also will tend to lose friends; they distance themselves by constantly being on the computer or video game. No one wants a person as a friend if all he or she does is Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 18. Argument Essay: Technology and Children Argument and Persuasion, Essay #6 Technology and Children This technology revolution sparked a debate on children's use of technology. Children are constantly using iPads, iPhones, tablets, and other computerized devices. By over exposing children to technology, they are being robbed of the mental stimulation that comes from doing real, non computerized, activities. It has gotten to the point where one can see a two–year–old navigate an iPhone with ease but struggle to speak. Sixty–nine percent of children aged two to five can use a computer mouse, but only eleven percent can tie their own shoelaces (Generation Tech More Kids Can Play Computer Games than Ride a Bike). Also, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in a study in 2004, 16 percent of children that are between the ages of six and nineteen years of age are overweight or obese. This is a number that has nearly tripled since 1980, mostly due to technological usage. Being overweight can bring with it great health concerns. Many of these children have a chance of developing Type II Diabetes, asthma, sleep apnea, social discrimination, high cholesterol and/or blood pressure. Moreover, according to a Stanford University of Medicine study, elementary students consume 20 percent of their daily calorie intake while watching television, which usually includes unhealthy snacks, largely due to advertisements for junk food and boredom. Coincidently, kids are not burning off any of these calories while they are plopped in front of the television. When it comes down to a child's creativity, it is being drained by the pre–generated creative art studios on computers. Before if a child wanted to show how artistic they could be, they would pull out a box of crayons or makers and draw a picture straight from their imagination. Now, we have coloring templates with preset colors that make children color inside the lines. The pseudo creativity has parents fooled into believing Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 20. The Pros and Cons of Technology Essay People very often debate whether technology is good or bad. Many people believe that technology can only cause harm to their lives and society, while many others strongly defend the technologies which have made their lives much more leisurely and enriching than it could have been several hundred years ago. In my opinion, both of these views are correct to an extent, but I also believe that what should be examined is not whether technology in its self is good or bad, but rather how we as humans use it.For decades now, television has been accused of contributing to the dissolution of the American family and the destruction of the minds of those who watch it. However, although the TV has been involved in this, the problem roots not with...show more content... Refrigerators, gas and electric ovens, microwaves, vacuums, dishwashers....the list goes on and on. All these things have made housework tremendously easier than it would have been about 100 years ago. This results with both positive and negative effects. It has given us easier ways to get jobs done, leaving more time for other things, but the bad part of this is what is chosen to do in this extra time. In many cases, this extra time is spent doing leisurely things, which might make us more happy, but also has an effect on our health. Lately we have become aware of the dangers of heart disease and the health benefits of exercise....the exercise we would have gotten 100 years ago just from doing our daily chores but now aren't getting enough of because we don't have to work as hard to do those same chores. This can be blamed on technology, but again, in fact it is our own fault because we chose to use the technology and spend the extra time lazing around. Now, something that really bothers me about technology is what is made out of it. I often question why people spend so much time and money trying to come up with so many useless things when we have global warming problems and starving children working in shoe factories. For example, scientists spent years to make a clone of a sheep. Now let me ask you, is their any practical use in knowing how to clone a sheep? Many people think that eventually this scientific advancement will lead into Get more content on HelpWriting.net
