3. Why we go for power
supply studies?
All electronic circuits need
smooth DC power supply in order
to function correctly.
The DC power supplied either
from battery or power pack
units
4. Power Supply
• Introduction:
• It is an electronic device that supplies electric energy. The
primary function of power supply is to convert one form of
electrical energy to another that is AC into DC.
• Modern personal computers universally use switched-mode
power supplies (SMPS)
• A power supply is a component that supplies power to at
least one electric load. Typically, it converts one type
of electrical power to another, but it may also convert a
different form of energy – such as solar, mechanical, or
chemical - into electrical energy. A power supply provides
components with electric power.
5. What is power supply?
• A device, which converts, regulates, and
transmits the required power to the circuit to be
operated.
• The power supply can be defined as it is an
electrical device used to give electrical supply to
electrical loads.
6. Function…
The primary function of a power supply is to convert
electric current from a source to the correct voltage.
The desktop computer power supply changes alternating
current from a wall socket of mains electricity to low-
voltage direct current to operate the processor and
peripheral devices.
It also controls over-heating through controlling voltage,
which may modify manually or automatically based on the
power supply. The PSU or power supply unit is also called as
a power converter or a power pack.
7. Keep in mind
• In a computer, the internal components
like cases, motherboards, & power supplies
all available in different configurations,
sizes which are known as form factor. All
these three components must be well-
matched to work appropriately together.
